What are the hybrid roles between technology and regulation?

A smaller group of titles combines technical and regulatory work. Examples in the data include a Group Product Manager for Compliance Automation at Coinbase, a Senior AI Governance Counsel at Adyen, Model Risk Management Lead roles in machine learning at Affirm, a Senior Manager for Data and AI Governance at Mercury, a Staff Software Engineer for Data Governance at Plaid and a Software Engineer for Privacy Engineering at Block. Counting by title keyword, privacy appears in 24 roles at 10 employers, governance in 16 at 10 and model risk in 8 at 3, with Affirm accounting for most model risk roles. These are small numbers, but they show the hybrid profile is a real, if narrow, part of the market.

The reading is that regulation is pulling technical and legal skills together. A candidate who can explain both the regulatory reason and the technical design fits these titles. Read the AI jobs guide for the model-building side.

How to position yourself for these roles

  • If you come from engineering or data, learn the regulatory reason behind a control, such as sanctions screening or data protection, and show it in your CV.
  • If you come from compliance, learn how the systems you review work, including data flows and model basics.
  • Target the employers with hybrid titles, including Affirm, Coinbase, Plaid and Mercury.
  • Check your CV with the resume analyzer and rehearse with the career coach.
