Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase.

We’re looking for a Group Product Manager to lead our Compliance Agent Experience product team. This team owns the internal tooling and automated experiences used by our operational Compliance teams to execute Coinbase’s Financial Crime programs, including AML Transaction Monitoring (TMS), KYC, Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Sanctions/Screening. In this role, you will drive an automation‑first roadmap that helps Compliance specialists and investigators efficiently triage alerts, investigate risk, document decisions, and take action-so humans can focus on high‑risk, high‑judgement work while the platform handles repeatable tasks at scale. You’ll build the next generation of AI‑powered and workflow‑driven investigation experiences (human‑in‑the‑loop), with a goal of materially improving investigation quality, cycle time, and operational efficiency while meeting stringent regulatory, security, privacy, and auditability requirements.

You’ll lead a distributed team of product managers, technical program managers, and designers across North America and India, guiding them to define and deliver secure, reliable, and intelligent systems that support global Compliance Operations, serving 100M+ customers worldwide. You’ll report to a product leader responsible for CX agent-facing tooling platforms and will partner closely with Engineering, Data Science/ML, Compliance Program owners, and CX Compliance Operations to align on strategy, define measurable outcomes (e.g., quality, throughput, automation, average handle time), and drive execution across the Compliance tooling ecosystem (including core case/investigation surfaces, reporting, and integrated workflows across multiple internal systems).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own all facets of the Compliance CX Agent Experience product area from vision and strategy through execution, delivery, and continuous improvement - focused on AML/financial crime operations (TMS, KYC, EDD, Sanctions/Screening).
  • Define and execute a multi‑year roadmap for Compliance investigation experiences, balancing scale, investigator effectiveness, regulatory commitments, and platform resiliency.
  • Drive automation-first and AI-assisted investigation workflows (human-in-the-loop), while ensuring explainability and appropriate controls.
  • Deeply understand investigator and specialist workflows to identify the highest-impact opportunities for automation and to reduce handle time, improve accuracy/consistency, and increase automation safely.
  • Partner with Engineering, Design, Data Science/ML, Compliance, and Ops to deliver seamless tooling that integrates the right data at the right time, reduces swivel-chair, and improves end-to-end investigation throughput.
  • Establish clear success metrics and instrumentation for Compliance tooling (e.g., investigation cycle time, AHT, escalation rates, rework, QA outcomes, false positive reduction enablement, automation adoption).
  • Proactively address security, privacy, risk, and compliance requirements including access controls, data retention, audit trails, model governance, and regulator-ready reporting—without compromising usability for frontline teams.
  • Drive build vs. buy and vendor strategy for investigation enablement (e.g., OSINT, case enrichment, LLM tooling) and lead evaluations/RFPs in partnership with Compliance, Legal, Security, and Procurement.
  • Operate as a product leader across stakeholders - communicate strategy, tradeoffs, and progress to executive and cross-functional audiences through regular business reviews and program updates.
  • Develop and mentor a globally distributed product group, setting high standards for product quality, operational excellence, and execution rigor.

What we look for in you:

  • Demonstrated AI fluency with proven ability to accelerate product management, design and development.
  • 10+ years of Product Management experience, with a proven track record of shipping consumer products at a global scale.
  • 5+ years of experience launching successful products in fintech, DeFi, or similarly complex domains.
  • 5+ years of leading and developing Product Management teams.
  • Product vision & execution: Proven ability to translate bold ideas into delightful, impactful features with measurable results.
  • User obsession: Relentless focus on creating intuitive, trustworthy, and scalable payment experiences
  • Cross-functional leadership: Able to align diverse stakeholders—from engineers to compliance teams—behind a shared vision.
  • Analytical skills: Skilled at market sizing, opportunity assessment, and turning complex data into actionable product insights
  • Demonstrated experience driving AI-powered customer support solutions, such as chatbots, LLM-based assistants, or automation workflows.
  • Demonstrated unlimited curiosity: proactively researching, identifying, experimenting with and adapting new technologies and vendors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive and perform under pressure.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience building products for AML, transaction monitoring, investigations, sanctions screening, KYC/EDD, or adjacent financial crime operations.
  • Familiarity with auditability, model risk management, and regulator-facing requirements for systems used in compliance investigations.
  • Experience with human-in-the-loop design patterns and quality programs (QA/QC), particularly in operational decisioning environments.

Senior Staff Software Engineer, Legal AutomationNew

CoinbaseRemote - USA
Full-timeNot specifiedJul 13, 2026

Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase.

Coinbase's Legal organization is at an inflection point. We manage corporate governance for 60+ global subsidiaries, public company reporting, equity programs, a venture portfolio, M&A, every institutional client agreement, and product counsel for all of Coinbase's PGs — from tokenized equities to stablecoin launches. Our clients are the CEO, COO, and every product group at the company. We work at the speed of a crypto startup with the compliance requirements of a public financial institution.

We are not looking to incrementally improve. We are looking to reimagine how legal work gets done at scale — replacing manual, high-volume workflows with AI-native systems, building an agent platform where today's junior lawyers become tomorrow's agent builders, and proving a model for how every non-technical org at Coinbase can transform with AI.

We have a roadmap, we have playbooks, and we have deep domain knowledge. What we need now is a technical architect to build the platform that brings this vision to life.

What You'll Do:

  • Architect and build Legal AI infrastructure — Design and ship a platform of AI agents and automated workflows that replace high-volume, templated legal work including institutional client agreement redlining, SEC filing support, subsidiary governance workflows, and commercial deal processing.
  • Own the institutional client agreement automation system — Our highest-priority use case: build an end-to-end agentic workflow that ingests counterparty markups, evaluates them against a structured playbook, generates a first-pass redline with comments, routes for human review, and tracks outcomes. This is a production-grade system affecting 220+ institutional clients in pipeline.
  • Build a cohesive agent platform and governance layer — Consolidate a fragmented set of ad-hoc bots and agents into a consistent, documented, maintainable platform with naming conventions, personas, observability, and standards for how Legal agents are built and deployed.
  • Act as the technical thought partner to the VP and the broader Legal leadership team — Translate complex legal workflows into engineered systems, and translate engineering constraints back to non-technical stakeholders. The ability to bridge these worlds is as important as the engineering itself.
  • Define the make-vs-buy strategy — Evaluate and retire third-party legal tech tools (Harvey, etc.) in favor of purpose-built internal solutions where Coinbase's engineering strength gives us a structural advantage.
  • Be the case study — This role is explicitly designed to be a pilot for forward-deployed engineering in non-technical organizations at Coinbase. Success here creates the playbook for how other functions (Finance, HR, Operations) can undergo the same transformation.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 12+ years of backend software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems at scale
  • Proven experience getting LLM-based applications to production — including evaluation frameworks, grounding, guardrails against hallucination, and human-in-the-loop design
  • Multi-agent orchestration experience — you've designed and operated systems where multiple AI agents collaborate, hand off work, and escalate to humans appropriately
  • Exceptional ability to communicate with and learn from non-technical domain experts — you don't need to know legal terminology on day one, but you need to rapidly internalize complex workflows and translate them into engineered systems
  • Platform mindset — you think in primitives, reusability, and standards, not just point solutions
  • Distributed systems fundamentals — the agreement automation system will touch document processing, structured playbook evaluation, routing logic, and audit trails; you need to architect this correctly from day one
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve ambitious goals in ambiguous, greenfield environments
  • Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in daily workflows, continuously learn as tools evolve, and apply human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs

Staff Software Engineer, Customer Administration

The Customer Administration Engineering (CAE) team is a core pillar of Coinbase's Enterprise Applications and Architecture (EAA) org, responsible for building and operating the secure, foundational platforms that power customer data operations across Coinbase. Our flagship product, Control Center, is Coinbase's secure system of action for internal specialists across CX, Compliance, Legal, Global Investigations, Trust and Risk, and dozens of other teams. It serves approximately 7,000 internal users via its UI and powers a growing ecosystem of internal tools and AI automation via its backend APIs and MCP. We are at an exciting inflection point: evolving Control Center from a human-specialist UI into a modular, AI-agent-ready operations platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical anchor for the CAE team, driving architectural decisions, mentoring engineers, and leading the delivery of high-impact, cross-cutting platform capabilities.

What You'll Do

  • Architect and deliver foundational platform capabilities including MCP tool registries, AI orchestration layers, risk-based access automation, and the away-team contribution model that enables product groups across Coinbase to build on the platform safely and at speed
  • Drive the evolution of Control Center into an AI-agent-ready, headless operations platform, designing and implementing MCP procedure constructs, agentic guardrails, HITL orchestration, and evaluation frameworks that enable both human and autonomous AI agents to execute sensitive customer operations securely
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager and Product counterparts to define architectural roadmaps, author TDDs, lead design reviews, decompose complex initiatives into deliverable milestones, and raise the engineering quality bar through code review and mentorship
  • Build and maintain highly reliable, secure, distributed backend services, owning SLO definitions, observability instrumentation, incident response, and operational readiness for Tier-1 platform systems
  • Collaborate across EAA engineering teams, Product Engineering, and Security Engineering to deliver cross-functional outcomes and drive shared platform primitives that eliminate duplicated infrastructure across the portfolio

Required Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a demonstrated track record of architecting and delivering large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems in production, including deep proficiency in backend service design, API development (gRPC, MCP, GraphQL), and scalable microservices architectures
  • Proven ability to independently lead ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from whiteboard to production, writing high-quality, well-tested code and setting the standard for others across complex, multi-team problem spaces
  • Strong experience with cloud-native infrastructure and the modern backend stack: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, BuildKite/CircleCI, event-driven architectures (Kafka, MQ), distributed caching (Redis/Memcached), and proficiency in SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • Track record of building secure, compliant internal tools or platforms, with deep appreciation for security controls, access management, audit logging, data governance, and engineering rigor in a regulated financial services environment
  • Experience building or integrating with agentic AI systems, including MCP servers, LLM orchestration layers, RAG pipelines, HITL workflows, or evaluation and guardrail frameworks for production agentic workloads
  • Proficiency in Go (Golang) as a primary backend language, with willingness to work across Python where applicable in the evolving AI stack
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

The IT Tooling team sits within IT Support & Services (ITSS) and builds the automations that power ITSS's own operations. Our in-house bot, Ask IT, deflects the majority of company-wide IT requests before they reach a human. Beyond that, we automate ITSS's core day-to-day workflows — ticket triage, access reviews, onboarding and offboarding — which employees experience as self-service. You'll own technical domains within the IT Tooling platform and partner with regional IT teams across APAC, EMEA, and AMER through platforms including n8n, Jira, Okta, Airflow, and Temporal.

What You'll Do

  • Establish architecture standards and code review practices that raise the team's overall engineering bar
  • Lead as technical DRI on the most complex, highest-impact automation projects, from discovery and design through production delivery
  • Partner with Security, Corporate Engineering, and IAM to resolve technical blockers and represent the team in cross-functional architecture discussions
  • Build shared frameworks and reusable components that reduce single points of failure across the platform
  • Produce architecture documentation and decision records that enable the team to scale with minimal dependency on any single individual
  • Manage your own workload with a high degree of independence, translating loosely scoped problems into production-ready technical specifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in IT engineering, automation, or systems engineering, with demonstrated ownership of architecture decisions, engineering standards, or platform-level systems that others build on top of
