AI Jobs in Fintech: The Roles Companies Are Actually Hiring For

AI work in fintech is real but still a small share of hiring. As of 20 October 2026, 184 of the 4,187 active roles tracked by Finjobsly carry an AI, machine learning or LLM job title, and 423 roles (10.1%) mention AI in the title or the skills tags. This guide shows which employers hire for AI roles, which skills they ask for and what the roles pay.

Key findings

  • 184 roles have an AI, ML or LLM title. Stripe has 32, Brex 13, Plaid 13, Coinbase 13, Affirm 11, Nubank 11, Block 10 and Adyen 9.
  • Counting title or skills, 423 roles (10.1%) mention AI. Counting title alone, the figure is 200 roles (4.8%).
  • Machine Learning is tagged on 214 roles and Data Science on 306. Python (700) and SQL (611) are the core technical skills.
  • Data and machine learning titles are 399 roles in total, and the median midpoint for those that state US pay is 215,000 dollars (n=128).

How many AI jobs are there in fintech?

The answer depends on how strictly you count. The narrowest measure is a job title that names AI, machine learning or LLMs, and it returns 184 roles, or 4.4% of the 4,187 active roles. Adding roles whose skills tags mention AI or machine learning lifts the count to 423, or 10.1%. A broader group, data and machine learning titles, covers 399 roles (9.5%). The honest conclusion is that AI-specific roles are a niche in fintech, and AI skills are a feature of a larger group of data and engineering roles.

Which fintech companies hire for AI roles?

Stripe leads the title count with 32 roles, which is 17.4% of all AI-titled roles. That is slightly below its 18.5% share of the whole panel, so Stripe is not unusually AI-heavy for its size. Brex, Plaid and Coinbase follow with 13 each. Affirm and Nubank have 11 each, Block 10 and Adyen 9. Together these eight employers hold 112 of the 184 roles. What skills do AI roles require?

Python appears on 700 roles and SQL on 611 across the panel, and those two are the entry ticket for most data and AI work. Machine Learning is tagged on 214 roles and Data Science on 306. Payments is the most common skill overall (1,966 roles, 47.0%), so domain knowledge of payments, fraud (390 roles) and lending is what separates a fintech AI candidate from a general one. What do AI roles pay?

Among US roles that state pay, data and machine learning roles have a median midpoint of 215,000 dollars (n=128). Engineering is 216,000 (n=354), product and design 225,000 (n=137), sales and go-to-market 194,306 (n=145) and risk, compliance and legal 184,800 (n=85). Pay disclosure is limited to 1,491 of 4,187 roles (35.6%), and we do not publish a separate median for AI-titled roles because the sample is too small. Use the salary benchmark for role-level ranges.

Are AI jobs safe from automation?

That is a separate question from hiring volume. Our guide on fintech jobs safe from AI covers which roles are exposed, and the layoffs career guide covers job cuts linked to AI.

How to get an AI job in fintech

  • Build Python and SQL skills, then add a project that uses payments, fraud or lending data.

  • Show how you handle model risk and regulation, since fintech models face scrutiny.

Methodology and data notes

Figures come from the Finjobsly tracked employer panel, which held 4,187 active roles at 36 employers on 20 October 2026. AI title counts use keyword matching on job titles, and skills counts use the skills tags on each role, where one role can carry several. The panel covers the employers we track and not the whole market. Last updated: 20 October 2026. See the methodology page and the Fintech Hiring Index.
