Payments

Senior Project ManagerNew

AdyenNew York
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 26, 2026

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

About the role

As a Senior Project Manager in the Professional Services Excellence team, you turn our most important priorities into well-structured, well-run initiatives that improve how PS works, collaborates, and delivers. You bring clarity, ownership, and strong execution discipline to complex problems, helping PS move from intention to reality and making sure improvements land across regions and teams.

This is an execution and strategy role, not a coordination one. You shape direction as much as you drive it: pressure-testing which initiatives matter, framing the problem, and then owning delivery end to end. You connect strategy to action by creating structure where it is missing, driving alignment across stakeholders, and ensuring new ways of working are adopted, not just launched. This is also a founding role on a new team, so you will help shape how the function operates and where it focuses first, not step into a fixed playbook.

Your scope is global. You will work on efforts expected to impact the global team, collaborating with leaders and team members across regions and influencing stakeholders across time zones. Your impact will show up in strong execution on our strategic priorities, clearer processes that reduce friction, and more time for PS teams to focus on delivering value to customers.

What you’ll do

Drive execution and deliver meaningful change

  • Translate PS priorities into clear, structured plans with timelines, milestones, dependencies, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of PS-wide and cross-domain initiatives, keeping them moving and making sure they land in operations.
  • Bring strong change management discipline so new processes, workflows, and tools are adopted across teams and achieve their intended results.
  • Remove blockers, create alignment, and make sure stakeholders know what is needed from them at every stage.

Shape priorities and provide leverage to PS leadership

  • Pressure-test priorities with leadership: assess where the biggest gaps, risks, and opportunities sit, and bring a clear point of view on where to focus.
  • Turn strategy and broad goals into actionable plans, helping leadership move from intent to execution.
  • Surface risks, trade-offs, and progress clearly, enabling better and faster decisions.
  • Coordinate work across regions and domains so PS operates as one team rather than isolated verticals.

Improve how PS operates

  • Identify inefficiencies or gaps in how we work, and design improvements that raise consistency, scalability, and delivery quality.
  • Partner with analytics partners to define metrics, measure impact, and validate that initiatives drive real results.
  • Drive adoption and follow-through on improvements that reduce friction and give PS teams more time for customer impact.
  • Partner with tooling owners so our tools match how we work and change lands cleanly across PS.

Who you are

  • You bring senior-level judgment, maturity, and presence, whether you are a strong L2 stepping up in scope or already operating at Senior level.
  • You excel at driving clarity in ambiguous environments, connecting the dots, and turning broad goals into structured, actionable plans.
  • You communicate with precision and adapt your message to different audiences, so stakeholders understand context, expectations, and next steps.
  • You are a strong connector who builds trust and alignment across teams, even when working remotely or across time zones.
  • You influence without authority by framing problems clearly, navigating trade-offs, and creating shared ownership for outcomes.
  • You have a strong sense of ownership and reliability. You follow through, push for results, and make sure important work lands against ambitious timelines.
  • You are organized and disciplined, comfortable running multiple initiatives at once without losing quality or momentum.
  • You enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders and lifting teams through better processes, clearer workflows, and structured execution.

About the PS Excellence team

Purpose & mission

As Professional Services scales, the way we work needs to scale with us. Scaling brings more complexity, more teams, more stakeholders, and a higher bar for quality and consistency. Without the right structures in place, we end up reacting to change instead of shaping it, fixing the same problems repeatedly, and spending too much time on low leverage work instead of what we do best: delivering industry leading customer experiences at scale.

The PS Excellence team exists to solve these challenges at the root and build the capabilities PS needs to be successful at scale. Our mission is to build the systems, insights and capabilities that allow PS to deliver consistently, efficiently, and with confidence, as we grow. Results from a recent PS survey shows that 70% of the team spends fewer than 40% of their time on projects with customers. If we get this right, we expect to materially increase the time our teams can focus on high value customer interactions.

The PS Excellence team is fully part of Professional Services, sitting close to the team members delivering with customers every day. This ensures that the team is close to the every day interactions of our team, and able to understand and respond to customer and team delivery

Senior Privacy Counsel - APACNew

AdyenSingapore
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 26, 2026

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

About the team

The Global DPO Office is expanding its presence across regions, with team members currently based in Amsterdam and New York and plans to grow in APAC. We own Adyen’s global privacy program and AI governance, and support incident response and data governance across the business. This means working across teams and regions to turn privacy and data protection requirements into practical ways of working, while helping Adyen respond effectively when issues arise and navigate new challenges around AI and data.

The work is varied, high-impact, and often complex. We work closely with colleagues across Adyen to solve problems that don’t always have straightforward answers, balancing regulatory requirements with the needs of a fast-growing, global business. We give people the space to take ownership, develop their expertise, and shape how we approach new and evolving challenges together.

The Role

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Senior Privacy Counsel to join our Global DPO Office in Singapore and drive our privacy work across the APAC region. Working closely with your colleagues in Amsterdam and New York, you will extend and strengthen our global privacy framework across the diverse and fast-evolving regulatory landscape of the Asia-Pacific region, enabling Adyen to grow in some of our most important commercial markets while making responsible choices.

This is a builder role. Winning in APAC is one of Adyen's top commercial priorities, and you will be central to it - establishing a scalable regional privacy baseline, advising on complex local data processing and localization requirements, and partnering closely with regional product, engineering, commercial, and second-line teams. You must combine strong analytical and communication skills with pragmatic, strategic thinking as you advise internal and external stakeholders, including, at times, local regulators.

What You Will Do

  • Act as the senior privacy advisor for Adyen's APAC operations, providing pragmatic, business-aligned guidance to regional product, engineering, commercial, HR, and corporate teams.
  • Adapt and extend Adyen's global privacy framework, standards, and policies to meet regional requirements, establishing a consistent and scalable privacy baseline across APAC jurisdictions.
  • Advise on and help operationalize privacy compliance across the APAC region, spanning major regimes such as Singapore's PDPA, India's DPDPA, Japan's APPI, Australia's Privacy Act, and Hong Kong's PDPO, as well as navigating cross-border data flows, localization requirements, and the extraterritorial reach of regional privacy laws..
  • Advise on cross-border data transfers, data localization, and localized consent flows across the region, in close coordination with regional product and engineering hubs.
  • Conduct and review privacy impact assessments, data protection impact assessments, and records of processing activities for APAC-specific initiatives and entities.
  • Anticipate and identify data protection obligations and risks, and help address them in a practical, scalable, and privacy-by-design manner.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy terms in commercial agreements, vendor arrangements, and data processing agreements relevant to the region.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across APAC, interpret their impact for Adyen, and translate them into actionable internal policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Support privacy incident response and management in the region, coordinating with the wider DPO Office and relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide extended regional coverage on AI governance and broader data-related legal advisory, including data governance and retention, across APAC.
  • Develop and deliver region-specific privacy training and self-service resources, fostering a strong culture of privacy accountability and awareness across APAC.
  • Engage with regional stakeholders and, where appropriate, local regulators and external counsel, building trusted relationships that strengthen Adyen's regional privacy capability.

Who You Are

  • You are a qualified lawyer in a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
  • You have 7+ years of relevant data privacy experience, including GDPR and a strong command of APAC privacy regimes.
  • You have deep, hands-on expertise in two or more APAC privacy frameworks (e.g., PDPA, DPDPA, APPI, PIPA, PDPO, PIPL) and a strong grasp of the wider regional landscape, including cross-border data-transfer and localization requirements.
  • You have experience setting up or scaling a privacy program in-house, and you know how to build a baseline that works across many different countries; law firm experience is also valued.
  • You are a generalist comfortable across commercial negotiations, compliance frameworks, vendor assessments, incident management, data transfers, data protection impact assessments, and privacy by design.
  • You are experienced at cross-functional partnering across engineering, product, legal, compliance, and enterprise risk, and confident engaging with regional stakeholders and, at times, local regulators.
  • Experience in payments, financial services, or fintech is strongly preferred, though not essential.
  • Knowledge of emerging AI regulation and AI governance frameworks (such as the EU AI Act and IMDA's Model AI Governance Framework) is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/A, CIPM, or AIGP are an advantage.
  • You have the ability to structure and prioritize in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, and to build and drive processes to completion.
  • You have strong drafting, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with a proactive, builder mindset and a strong sense of ownership.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • You are available to work from our Singapore office and travel to other offices periodically.

Senior Product Manager, Banking

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager, Banking (US) to define and scale the next phase of Adyen’s banking strategy in North America. This role owns the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and execution for Adyen’s US banking capabilities, sitting at the intersection of payments, money movement, platform services, and embedded finance.

Adyen has already built the foundational banking infrastructure — licenses, regulatory approvals, integrations into local clearing systems like ACH, RTP, FedNow. The mandate now is differentiation: defining how Adyen wins in embedded and enterprise banking across the US market.

This is a senior individual contributor role with responsibility for driving outcomes across a globally distributed organization spanning Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Go-To-Market partners.

What you’ll do

Set Vision & Strategy

  • Define and own the long-term vision and strategy for Adyen’s US banking products, grounded in customer value, measurable business impact, and responsible growth.
  • Translate market opportunity into clear priorities, roadmaps, and success metrics across customer segments and verticals.
  • Identify differentiated use cases that position Adyen as the primary financial relationship for platforms and SMBs.

Scale Banking as a Platform

  • Lead the maturation and expansion of Adyen Accounts in the US, both for embedded and enterprise customers, and money movement capabilities
  • Define how banking integrates natively with Payments, Capital, and Issuing to create seamless financial workflows.
  • Drive adoption and attach rates across enterprise and platform customers.

Build for Scale & Regulatory Rigor

  • Ensure product decisions balance speed, reliability, compliance, and monetization.
  • Partner closely with Compliance, Risk, and Finance teams to navigate regulatory dependencies impacting US banking growth.
  • Design capabilities that are scalable, auditable, and resilient in a regulated environment.

Lead Through Influence

  • Operate as the product authority for US banking, representing the strategy internally and in strategic customer discussions.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across Engineering, Commercial, Risk, and Operations teams without direct authority.
  • Raise the bar for product clarity, prioritization discipline, and strategic thinking within Financial Products.

Who you are

Experience & Scope

  • 8+ years of experience in Product Management or adjacent leadership roles within fintech, banking, embedded finance, or similarly complex, regulated domains.
  • Proven experience building and scaling US-based banking or financial products that move meaningful transaction volume.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at enterprise scale while defining new product frontiers.

Product & Platform Leadership

  • You are a product leader at heart, with deep experience setting vision, prioritizing roadmaps, and delivering measurable outcomes through cross-functional teams.
  • You bring a strong analytical and metrics-driven approach to decision-making and trade-offs.
  • You have experience translating ambiguous strategic problems into structured product direction.

Domain Expertise

  • Strong understanding of US banking infrastructure, including ACH, wires, checks, bill pay, debit or prepaid products, and embedded finance models.
  • Experience with Banking-as-a-Service, tech-enabled banks, or integrated financial platforms is highly relevant.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance considerations in US financial services.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Risk, Operations, and Commercial functions.
  • Comfortable leading through ambiguity and influencing without direct authority.
  • Clear and confident communicator across technical, commercial, and executive audiences in a global context.

Customer-Centric & Principled

  • Deep customer empathy with the ability to translate technical complexity into clear value propositions.
  • Demonstrated ethical judgment and integrity in high-stakes, regulated environments.

Total rewards & compensation

The annual base salary range for this role is $180,000 - $250,000. Compensation is based on factors including qualifications, experience, and location. Total compensation package includes equity (RSUs), 401(k), health, dental, vision, and more.

In-office expectations

This role is based in our Chicago office. We're an office-first company and expect employees to work in-office at least 3 days a week on average. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while also supporting flexibility.

We actively seek different perspectives to sharpen our ideas. Our unique culture is a product of our diverse backgrounds and experiences. No matter who you are or where you’re from, you’re welcome to be your true self at Adyen.

If you need accommodations or support during the recruitment process to perform at your best, you’ll have the opportunity to let our team know in your application. We encourage people from all backgrounds and abilities to apply.

Senior AI Governance Counsel

AdyenNew York
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 24, 2026

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior AI Governance Counsel to join our Global DPO Office and help build, roll out, and operate Adyen's enterprise AI governance framework. Sitting within the group that owns our global privacy program and AI governance, and supports incident response and management as well as data governance, you will be the driving force in shaping our strong foundations into a consistent, enterprise-wide AI governance program that scales with Adyen's ambitions - helping the business innovate boldly and responsibly with AI.

This is a builder role. You will translate the EU AI Act, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA, and emerging global AI and privacy requirements into pragmatic policies, standards, and assessment workflows - and partner with Enterprise Risk, Security, Product, Compliance, Legal, Regulatory and Engineering to make them real. You will have a particular focus on generative and agentic AI use cases, and on giving first-line teams the parameters and tooling they need to evaluate their own models and outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Help build, roll out, and embed Adyen's enterprise-wide AI governance framework, policies, and standards, driving consistency as AI adoption scales across the business.
  • Design and operationalize AI risk and impact assessments across the AI lifecycle - from intake and risk classification through deployment, monitoring, and decommissioning - with particular focus on generative and agentic AI use cases.
  • Interpret the EU AI Act, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and other applicable AI laws across Adyen's global footprint, and translate them into practical policies, playbooks, and procedures for first-line teams.
  • Support the teams that maintain Adyen's AI inventories by defining governance parameters and requirements for cataloguing and risk-classifying AI tools and use cases.
  • Develop enterprise guidance and a consistent approach for evaluating AI systems, covering performance, fairness, and explainability expectations appropriate to each use case's risk profile.
  • Design simple, proportionate, risk-tiered processes and “green paths” that make responsible AI the easy path for fast-moving teams - using clear risk tiers and practical incentives so the compliant route is also the most convenient one.
  • Translate model-evaluation techniques - including fairness, bias, and adversarial (red-teaming) testing - into clear procedures that technology teams can apply to their own models and tools.
  • Partner with Enterprise Risk, Security, Product, Compliance, Legal, Regulatory, and Engineering to run the AI governance program and align on controls, escalation, and human-oversight protocols.
  • Advise on privacy considerations across the AI lifecycle, coordinating with the wider DPO Office on the interaction between AI assessments and data protection.
  • Design and deliver AI governance training and promote AI literacy and a culture of responsible, accountable AI use.
  • Monitor global AI and privacy developments and translate them into proportionate governance requirements, supporting responses to audit, regulatory, and client inquiries.

Who You Are

Core Expertise:

  • 7+ Years in AI Governance/Privacy: Proven background building, deploying, and managing global AI or privacy governance programs, ideally within regulated, multi-jurisdictional environments.
  • Legal / Risk Qualification: Qualified lawyer or governance professional with substantial experience in AI governance, privacy, or technology risk. (US jurisdiction admission is a plus).

  • Regulated Sector Background: Prior experience in payments, financial services, or other heavily regulated industries is preferred.

Technical Knowledge:

  • AI Frameworks & Privacy Laws: Solid working knowledge of the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, and ISO/IEC 42001, along with global privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA).

  • Generative & Agentic AI Experience: Familiarity with LLMs, autonomy levels, human-in-the-loop design, and tool/action permissioning.

  • Model Evaluation & Testing: Understanding of model evaluation techniques including fairness, bias, drift, performance, explainability, and red teaming, and the ability to translate them into practical policies.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Regulatory Translator: Skilled at converting complex, fast-evolving AI regulations into practical, business-aligned guidance for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Cross-Functional Influence: Proven ability to partner with and drive adoption across Risk, Security, Product, Compliance, Legal, and Engineering without relying on direct authority.

  • Execution & Ownership: Strong drafting, communication, and stakeholder-management skills paired with a proactive, builder mindset.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Relevant industry certifications such as IAPP AIGP, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or CIPM are an advantage.

Staff Engineer - Payments

As a Staff Engineer in the Payments organization, you will act as a trusted advisor and shape the future of how businesses and shoppers interact with Adyen's payment platform. Operating at the intersection of mobile technology, point-of-sale systems, and backend services, you will drive the technical direction for our Terminal and Mobile experiences.

By driving technical decisions through ambiguity and establishing foundational architecture, you will lead the evolution of Adyen's next generation of payment experiences.

What you'll do

  • Build the next generation of payment experiences: Help Adyen evolve beyond traditional terminal and mobile boundaries toward seamless shopper and merchant experiences across devices, applications, and payment surfaces.

  • Develop Technical Talent: Mentor engineers across levels. Tailor your coaching to help Senior Engineers tackle complex problems independently, while demystifying internal systems and explaining the "why" behind decisions for Junior Engineers.
  • Champion Engineering Excellence: Raise the bar for observability, testing, and operational excellence. Work internally and with external technology partners (e.g., OS providers, hardware vendors) to ensure robust, secure integrations.

Who you are

  • Experience: 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in modern production environments, with a proven track record operating at a Staff-level scope.
  • Mobile Expertise: 5+ years of direct, hands-on mobile development experience with proven proficiency in either Android (Kotlin) OR iOS (Swift). You have shipped and owned production mobile code, not just directed it.
  • Cross-Platform Mindset: A strong willingness and demonstrated ability to cross-train onto the mobile platform you don't currently specialize in. You must be comfortable working across platform boundaries.
  • Collaborative Leadership: A proactive relationship-builder who can set technical direction and influence without formal authority, manage diverse stakeholders across time zones, and build alignment on difficult technical decisions.
  • Technical Depth: Deep understanding of mobile architecture, SDK design, concurrency, performance, and large-scale distributed systems. Experience building and maintaining merchant- or consumer-facing SDKs.
  • Platform Thinking: The ability to generalize complex processes into simple, flexible services and SDKs that support multiple products and teams.
  • Strong Ownership: A self-starter mindset with the ability to identify critical problems, determine what needs to change, and drive solutions to completion.

Tooling Manager

AdyenAmsterdam
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 19, 2026

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

About the role: purpose & impact

As the Tooling Manager in the Professional Services Excellence team, you own the tools and systems that PS runs on. You decide what we build, what we buy, and what we retire, and then you make it real. Your work shows up as workflows that run themselves, data that leadership can act on, and delivery teams that spend less time working around their tooling and more time with customers.

This is a build role, not an administration one. You are hands-on: you architect and deploy automation and AI-driven workflows rather than maintaining platforms that someone else selected. This is also a founding role on a new team, so you will help shape how the function operates and where it focuses first, not step into a fixed playbook. You will be the first dedicated owner of tooling in PS, which means the remit is yours to define together with the team.

Your scope is global. The systems you own are used by delivery teams in every region and touch every merchant we onboard, so you will work with leaders and team members across regions and influence stakeholders across time zones. Your impact will show up in faster onboarding, cleaner data, and fewer manual steps between a customer commitment and a delivered project.

What you’ll do

  1. Own the PS systems landscape
  • Own the end-to-end evaluation, procurement, implementation, and administration of the project and work management platforms PS runs on, for example Jira, Monday.com, or equivalent enterprise collaboration and tracking systems. Salesforce sits with a dedicated team and is out of scope.
  • Audit and diagnose merchant-facing delivery workflows and internal PS systems, find the structural bottlenecks, and fix them without waiting for a ticket.
  • Assess third-party platforms against how PS actually works, weighing what they deliver out of the box against what we would be better off building ourselves.
  • Keep the landscape coherent: retire what we no longer need, and push back on tools that solve one narrow problem at the cost of the whole.
  1. Build automation and AI into how PS delivers
  • Architect and deploy production-ready automations, GenAI workflows, and agents that remove friction from merchant onboarding, project handoffs, and delivery.
  • Use agentic developer tools and AI coding assistants to build, test, and ship custom solutions yourself, rather than queuing behind engineering capacity for every improvement.
  • Make sure our systems, APIs, and data structures are set up so AI solutions can run reliably on top of them, with clean data, sound system logic, and secure access points.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Data, and other tooling owners so integrations and connections between systems stay clean as the landscape grows.
  1. Turn systems into insight and adoption
  • Define the reporting framework that comes out of our tooling, and convert raw system data into clear, forward-looking insight that PS leadership can act on.
  • Measure whether tools are genuinely used and used well, and act on what that tells you about where the real friction sits.
  • Distill complex system dependencies into simple explanations for non-technical stakeholders, and partner with enablement and knowledge owners so documentation and playbooks stay accurate.
  • Set and hold the standards for data quality, security, and compliance across the tools and automated workflows you own.

Who you are

  • You bring senior-level judgment and presence, with around 7 to 10 years in technical operations, systems or revenue operations, and a track record of scaling delivery infrastructure in a fast-growing environment.
  • You are a hands-on builder. You are comfortable with APIs, webhooks, JSON, and relational data structures, and you have used agentic tools and AI coding assistants to ship solutions that people actually use.
  • You have advanced configuration and administration skills across modern project management tools, enterprise collaboration suites, and automation platforms, with a strong grasp of data flows and integration dependencies.
  • You think in systems, weighing the downstream effects of a configuration choice on data integrity and on how the landscape scales.
  • You make high-conviction decisions with incomplete information, and you deploy, test, and iterate quickly rather than waiting for certainty.
  • You have a strong sense of ownership. You take accountability when something you own breaks, you are honest about it, and you fix the root cause.
  • You translate operational needs into clean system logic, and you explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences without losing them or oversimplifying.
  • You enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders, prioritizing competing requests, managing change, and driving adoption of new ways of working.
  • Bonus: you have worked with Rocketlane, or a comparable professional services automation platform, and you know what it takes to run one well rather than simply switch it on.

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments

Our unique approach is a product of our diverse perspectives. This diversity of backgrounds and cultures is essential in helping us maintain our momentum. Our business and technical challenges are unique, and we need as many different voices as possible to join us in solving them - voices like yours. Staff Engineer - Observability

AdyenAmsterdam
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 18, 2026

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

Staff Engineer - Observability

As a Staff Engineer in the Observability domain, you will act as the technical North Star driving the long-term evolution of our global telemetry and monitoring ecosystem. Our platform is at a pivotal turning point: we are transitioning from a traditional observability platform toward an intelligent, proactive companion that leverages automation to drastically reduce cognitive load and incident resolution times.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between our high-scale telemetry infrastructure (managing thousands of hybrid bare-metal and Kubernetes environments),our developer-facing software pipelines (processing billions of daily events), and observability experience in alerting and visualization. You will play a defining role in shaping and executing our strategic roadmap focused on Intelligent Observability, Unified Data Foundation, and Zero-Friction Configuration.

What you'll do

  • Drive Strategic Architecture: Architect and execute the technical strategy for our unified, global observability platform, aligning long-term product vision with resilient, highly scalable engineering designs.
  • Scale the Data Foundation: Lead the architectural revamp of our petabyte-scale search, logging, and metrics systems. You will guide the transition from legacy, over-extended datastores to highly optimized, regionalized, and multi-tenant telemetry pipelines.
  • Enable Intelligent Observability: Architect the APIs, secure interfaces, and integration protocols that connect our unified data foundation to autonomous AI agents, enabling real-time diagnostics and conversational query tools.
  • Establish Resilient Topologies: Deconstruct monolithic monitoring setups into isolated, high-availability regional architectures to minimize blast radiuses and ensure global operational stability.
  • Simplify Developer Experience: Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design self-service developer tooling, leveraging GitOps-driven configuration models, automated schema enforcement, and intuitive quota and retention management.
  • Technical Leadership & Guidance: Provide high-level technical direction across the observability domain, fostering engineering excellence, championing robust design reviews, and guiding engineers through complex distributed systems challenges.
  • Advocate Company-Wide: Act as a technical advocate for the domain, partnering with engineering groups across Adyen to align telemetry capabilities with broader organizational needs, build and drive the adoption of developer-facing tools, and promote modern observability standards.

Who you are

  • 10+ years of experience in software, systems, or platform engineering, including 3+ years in a similar technical leadership role within the observability or large-scale distributed data systems domain.
  • Distributed Systems & Storage Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience designing, scaling, and operating core telemetry data engines (such as distributed search databases, time-series metrics systems, high-performance logging architectures) at a multi-petabyte scale.
  • AI-Ready Telemetry Design: Practical understanding of how to structure, schema-enforce, and clean high-volume telemetry streams to make them highly optimized for consumption by LLMs, semantic search engines, and RAG pipelines.
  • Telemetry Standardization: Experience adopting industry-standard telemetry collection frameworks (such as OpenTelemetry) and implementing SLO-driven alert governance.
  • Software Engineering Mindset: Strong proficiency in software development (ideally in Go, Java, or Python) with a history of building production-grade, automated tooling and robust real-time data ingestion pipelines.
  • Kubernetes & Infrastructure Fluency: Extensive experience operating and troubleshooting high-throughput workloads on production Kubernetes (both on-prem and cloud) alongside a solid understanding of system-level performance tuning (networking, storage, and operating system limits).
  • Influence and Collaboration: Exceptional communication and system-design skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical trade-offs for diverse stakeholders, align multiple engineering teams around a unified technical vision, and mentor and upskill engineers to elevate domain-wide technical execution.

Nice to have

  • Agentic & LLM Integration: Experience building or utilizing open standards like Model Context Protocol (MCP) to safely expose platform data (metrics, logs, traces) to external AI agents and SRE assistants.
  • Intelligent Diagnostics: Experience designing or integrating automated anomaly detection, conversational AI querying interfaces (e.g., LLM co-pilots), or continuous profiling platforms.
  • Governance at Scale: Familiarity with implementing automated multi-tenant isolation, capacity management, and cost-attribution frameworks for large-scale enterprise developer platforms.
