Fintech Companies and Startups Hiring Software Engineers in 2026

The fintech employers with the most open software engineering roles right now are Stripe, Affirm, Coinbase, Brex and Robinhood. As of 20 October 2026, Finjobsly tracked 1,030 live engineering roles across 34 of the 36 employers on its panel, out of 4,185 active roles in total. Stripe has 156 of them. Most of the openings are senior, 66% of those with a work style recorded are remote, and the most requested skills are Payments, Python, AWS, Go and Java. Finjobsly's panel is weighted towards scale-ups and established fintechs, not early-stage startups, so this guide covers where fintech engineering hiring actually is and what smaller employers fit into it.

Key findings

  • Finjobsly tracked 1,030 live software engineering roles at 34 employers as of 20 October 2026, from a panel of 4,185 active roles at 36 employers.
  • Stripe has 156 of the 1,030 roles (15%), Affirm 111, Coinbase 79, Brex 62 and Robinhood 57. The top five employers hold 465 roles, 45% of the total.
  • 770 of the 1,030 roles (75%) are tagged Senior, Staff, Principal or Lead. Only 52 are tagged Junior or Internship.
  • Of the 806 roles with a work style recorded, 533 are remote (66%), 207 hybrid (26%) and 66 onsite (8%). Work style is missing on 224 roles.
  • Payments is the most common skill tag (440 roles), followed by Python (352), AWS (336), Go (310) and Java (292).
  • Among USD-paid roles that advertise a range, the median is $186,065 to $230,000 for Senior engineers (n=155) and $218,025 to $273,600 for Staff engineers (n=122).

Which fintech companies are hiring software engineers?

The table counts live roles on Finjobsly in the engineering family, meaning titles that match engineer, developer, software, SRE, DevOps or architect once data and machine learning roles, sales and go-to-market roles and support engineers have been assigned to their own families. Data and machine learning roles are covered in the data science hiring guide. The data is as of 20 October 2026 and covers Finjobsly's panel of 36 tracked employers, not the whole market. Stripe is about one in seven engineering roles in the panel (156 of 1,030), so any total in this article is partly a statement about Stripe. Kraken (24 roles), Chime (18), and Zopa, Mercury, Mollie and Monzo (14 each) follow, and 12 other employers have 13 or fewer. You can browse them through the fintech jobs page.

Are there fintech startups hiring engineers?

Yes, but Finjobsly cannot separate startups from scale-ups reliably. Funding stage is recorded on very few roles, and most of the largest employers in the panel, such as Stripe, Coinbase and Adyen, are large and established. Among employers with fewer than 25 engineering roles, the group includes smaller, high-growth fintechs such as Mercury, Fireblocks, Mollie and Zopa, and the company directory lets you filter by size. If you are targeting early-stage startups, read funding announcements and employer career pages as well, because small companies often hire through direct channels before roles appear on aggregators. Use the company directory and the fintech jobs page to compare them.

What seniority of software engineer are fintech companies hiring?

Senior and above dominates. Of the 1,030 roles, 467 are tagged Senior, 267 Staff, 13 Principal and 23 Lead (770 in total, 75%), against 179 Mid-Level, 21 internships and 31 Junior. Seventeen roles are tagged Director, VP or Executive and 12 had no level tagged. For early-career engineers, openings are scarce. Stripe (20 junior and intern roles), Affirm (9) and Checkout.com (9) account for 38 of the 52, and 24 of the 34 employers list none. The skills and languages fintech employers screen for is the best preparation.

Are fintech engineering jobs remote, hybrid or onsite?

Most of those that say are remote. Work style is tagged on 806 of the 1,030 roles: 533 remote (66.1%), 207 hybrid (25.7%) and 66 onsite (8.2%). It varies by employer. Coinbase (77 of 79), Affirm (108 of 111), Tide (38 of 38), Block (33 of 33), Plaid (23 of 23) and Kraken (23 of 23) are almost entirely remote, while Ripple (0 of 28), Gusto (0 of 27) and Brex (0 of 61) have no remote-tagged engineering roles. Remote can still mean limited to a country or time zone, so check each posting. See the remote fintech jobs page.

What technologies do fintech engineering jobs require?

These counts come from the skills tags on the 1,030 roles, as of 20 October 2026. A role can carry several tags. The list shows the 15 most common tags.

  • Payments: 440 roles
  • Python: 352 roles
  • AWS: 336 roles
  • Go: 310 roles
  • Java: 292 roles
  • Kubernetes: 227 roles
  • Compliance: 227 roles
  • REST: 213 roles
  • React: 203 roles
  • CI/CD: 169 roles
  • Kafka: 130 roles
  • Product Management: 130 roles
  • TypeScript: 126 roles
  • Terraform: 120 roles
  • Ruby: 115 roles

Python (34%) and Go (30%) each appear on roughly one in three engineering roles, ahead of Java (292) and TypeScript (126). Domain tags matter as much as languages. Payments (440) and Compliance (227) appear on a large share of roles. Because Stripe supplies about one in seven of the roles, some of these counts, notably Ruby and Go, reflect the stacks at a few employers. Read each posting for the actual requirements.

How much do fintech software engineers earn?

Finjobsly figures use only roles that advertise a range in US dollars. 360 of the 1,030 engineering roles do. We excluded 9 whose advertised minimum is under $40,000 as likely bad data, which leaves 351. The table shows the median advertised minimum and maximum by seniority.

SeniorityMedian advertised minimum (USD)Median advertised maximum (USD)Roles (n)
Staff$218,025$273,600122
Senior$186,065$230,000155
Mid-Level$152,405$195,00052

Other levels have fewer than 5 USD-paid roles each and are not shown. These are advertised ranges at employers in the Finjobsly panel, concentrated in US companies where pay disclosure is common or legally required. They are not market averages. For context, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a median annual wage of $135,980 for software developers across all industries in 2025 and projects 10% employment growth from 2025 to 2035 (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, accessed 1 October 2026). Methodology

All Finjobsly figures come from the platform's live job database, as of 20 October 2026, covering 4,185 active roles across 36 tracked employers. This panel is not the whole fintech market.

Role families are assigned from job titles using one rule applied across Finjobsly articles, in this order: data and machine learning (data scientist, machine learning, data or analytics engineer, data and business analyst, BI, analytics, and fraud, risk or credit modelling titles), sales and go-to-market (sales, account executive, business development, SDR or BDR, partnerships, customer success, account management, solutions engineering), engineering (engineer, developer, software, SRE, DevOps, architect), product and design, risk, compliance and legal, marketing, finance, people, and operations and support. Titles that match none are counted as other. Title matching is imperfect, so a few roles may sit in a neighbouring family. In this article, engineering means the engineering family, which leaves 1,030 roles at 34 employers.

Skills counts use each role's skill tags. Work style and seniority are shown only where recorded, and work style is missing on 224 roles. Country data is not consistently recorded, so this article does not report location splits. Salary figures cover USD-paid roles with both a minimum and maximum, excluding 9 with a minimum under $40,000. External figures are from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
