Fintech go-to-market hiring is large right now. It is also pointed at a very specific kind of person, and it is not the one most career advice assumes.

Across the 3,085 active fintech roles Finjobsly tracked across 33 employers on 19 September 2026, there were 343 open Account Executive listings. Entry-level Sales Development Representative roles, once you strip out management and duplicate city listings, came to 13 distinct openings.

That is a ratio of roughly 26 closing roles for every distinct prospecting role.

Fintech is not hiring people to book meetings. It is hiring people to close.

First, a correction to a number you may have seen

Finjobsly's own role widget currently reports 376 open "Sales Development Representative (SDR)" positions, placing SDR second only to engineering. We dug into that bucket before writing this piece, and it does not mean what the label says.

Those 376 listings break down as 343 Account Executive roles and 33 Sales Development roles. Our role classifier groups both under a single SDR key. The bucket also catches titles that are not sales jobs at all, including one Brex listing for a "People Business Partner, GTM (Customer Experience, Implementation and Sales Development)", which is an HR position.

We are publishing that caveat rather than the headline number, because the corrected figure tells a more useful story than the inflated one.

Half of fintech's sales demand is one company selling card readers

The concentration here matters more than the total.

Toast accounts for 188 of the 376 listings in that bucket, or 50.0%. Of those 188, exactly 187 are Account Executive roles and one is an SDR role.

Toast's openings are field sales positions with titles like "Territory Account Executive, Retail - Fort Worth" and "Bilingual Strategic Cuisines Flex Account Executive (Thai)". These are restaurant point-of-sale reps working defined geographic patches. They are legitimate fintech jobs. They are not the venture-backed B2B SaaS prospecting roles the phrase "fintech sales" usually conjures.

Strip Toast out and the picture changes again. Stripe holds 82 of the remaining listings, Block 43, and Brex 27. Below that, no employer in the panel has more than 11.

So when anyone says fintech sales hiring is booming, the honest version is narrower: a handful of large platforms are hiring closers, and one of them is running a national restaurant field-sales operation.

The entry-level door is much narrower than the numbers suggest

This is the part that matters for anyone trying to break into the sector.

The SDR role is conventionally the way in. No engineering degree, no banking background, transferable skills from retail or recruitment or hospitality. That is the standard advice, and on a 376-role headline it looks well founded.

The actual inventory across our panel on 19 September:

  • 33 listings in the Sales Development bucket
  • 16 of those are Manager, Senior Manager, Director of SDR Operations, or the HR role mentioned above
  • 17 are genuine individual-contributor SDR positions
  • Those 17 collapse to 13 distinct roles once multi-city duplicate listings are merged

Brex posts its "Outbound Sales Development Representative (Pipeline)" role separately in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Vancouver and Sao Paulo. That is one job counted four times.

Thirteen distinct entry-level seats across 33 tracked fintech employers is a thin door. Candidates planning an SDR route into fintech should know that before they build a strategy around it.

Where those 13 roles actually are

The employers hiring genuine SDRs are a short list: Brex, Stripe, Mollie, Carta, Plaid, GoCardless, Qonto, Toast and Ripple.

Several are language-gated rather than location-gated, which is worth knowing if you speak a second language:

  • Stripe is hiring Mandarin-speaking SDRs in Singapore, plus SDRs in Tokyo and Sydney
  • Mollie's "Sales Development Representative - Italy" is based in Lisbon, not Italy, and sells into the Italian market from there
  • Qonto is recruiting for the German market from Barcelona
  • Mollie also lists DACH-focused and inbound SDR roles in Munich and Paris

The pattern is consistent. Fintechs are not opening offices in every market they sell into. They are hiring native speakers into a small number of regional hubs and pointing them outward.

Fintech sales is the least pay-transparent corner of the panel

Here is a figure that should annoy candidates.

Across all 3,085 active roles Finjobsly tracks, 38.9% publish a salary range. Among the 343 Account Executive listings, 6.7% do, which is 23 listings out of 343.

Sales roles are the least transparent category in the dataset by a wide margin, and the likely reason is commission. When a large share of earnings sits in a variable component, publishing a base range invites questions the employer would rather handle on a call.

Among the 21 US Account Executive listings that do publish USD ranges, the median advertised band runs from $152,300 to $228,500 (Finjobsly data, n=21). Treat that as indicative only. A sample of 21 out of 343 is self-selected toward employers in pay-transparency jurisdictions.

For the SDR roles specifically, we cannot publish a benchmark. Every SDR salary cell in our rollup has a sample size of one or two and fails our minimum-data threshold. Any "fintech SDR salary" figure you see quoted to two decimal places is almost certainly modelled, not measured.

What we can show is individual disclosed listings:

  • GoCardless, SDR, Leeds: £27,976 to £40,800 base
  • Brex, Outbound SDR, San Francisco: $82,535 to $92,852
  • Brex, Outbound SDR, Salt Lake City: $73,040 to $82,852
  • Plaid, SDR, New York: $91,995 to $106,971

You can compare live ranges in the Finjobsly salary checker.

These are hybrid jobs, not remote ones

One more divergence worth flagging.

Across the tagged portion of our panel, 33.0% of roles are hybrid (of 2,190 listings with a work-style tag). Among Account Executive listings, 75.8% are hybrid (of 265 tagged), with only 23.4% remote.

That is a large gap, and it follows from what the job is. Territory sales means being in the territory. If you are targeting fintech sales as a route to remote work, the data points the other way.

What this actually signals about fintech

Engineering still dominates the panel. Our engineering bucket holds 937 listings, though that figure is itself broad, covering all engineering titles including 109 engineering-leadership roles. Software Engineer specifically accounts for 454.

Set that against 343 closers and 13 entry-level prospectors, and a picture emerges that is more interesting than "sales hiring is up".

Companies hire SDRs when they need to generate demand they do not yet have. They hire Account Executives when demand already exists and the constraint is converting it. A 26-to-1 ratio suggests these platforms believe their pipeline problem is largely solved and their conversion capacity is not.

There is a less flattering reading too. SDR work, prospect research, list building, first-touch outreach and CRM hygiene, is exactly the category where automation has advanced fastest. A shrinking SDR count alongside a large AE count is consistent with tooling absorbing the top of the funnel while the human closing role holds.

We cannot separate those two explanations from job postings alone, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can say is that the traditional fintech sales career ladder, start as an SDR, promote to AE, currently has far more rungs at the top than at the bottom.

For candidates, the practical implication is direct. If you want into fintech sales, competing for 13 entry-level seats is the hard path. Arriving with closing experience from another sector, where the 343 openings are, is the easier one.

Frequently asked questions

How many SDR jobs are open in fintech right now?

Across Finjobsly's tracked panel of 3,085 active roles at 33 employers on 19 September 2026, there were 33 listings in the Sales Development bucket. Of those, 17 were genuine individual-contributor SDR roles, collapsing to 13 distinct openings once duplicate multi-city listings were merged. The remaining 16 were management or operations positions.

Why do some sources say there are 376 fintech SDR jobs?

That figure comes from a role-classification bucket that groups Account Executive listings together with Sales Development listings. It breaks down as 343 Account Executive roles and 33 Sales Development roles. It is not a count of SDR openings.

Which fintech companies are hiring SDRs?

Brex, Stripe, Mollie, Carta, Plaid, GoCardless, Qonto, Toast and Ripple all had Sales Development listings open on 19 September 2026. Brex and Stripe accounted for the largest share.

Is an SDR role still a good way to break into fintech?

It remains a genuine route, and several employers accept candidates without prior fintech experience. But the inventory is thin. Thirteen distinct entry-level openings across 33 tracked employers means the route is more competitive than headline role counts imply. Candidates with existing closing experience will find substantially more open doors at Account Executive level.

Do fintech sales jobs pay well?

Among the 21 US Account Executive listings in our panel that publish a USD range, the median advertised band runs $152,300 to $228,500. However only 6.7% of Account Executive listings disclose pay at all, against 38.9% across the full panel, so that sample is not representative. We do not currently have enough disclosed SDR salary data to publish a benchmark.

Methodology

Snapshot date: 19 September 2026. All counts were re-queried live on that date and will change as listings open and close.

Jobs analysed: 3,085 active listings across 33 tracked employers. A listing is counted as active where status is active or published and it has not expired.

Geography: Global panel, weighted heavily toward the United States. Country is resolvable for roughly 72% of listings, so country-level splits are reported against the tagged subset rather than the full panel, and are omitted here where the tagging was too inconsistent to be reliable.

Duplicate and multi-location listings: Counted separately by default. A single role advertised in five cities appears as five listings. Where this piece reports "distinct" roles, duplicates have been merged on employer plus job title. Both figures are given so the difference is visible: 343 Account Executive listings represent 273 distinct roles, and 17 individual-contributor SDR listings represent 13 distinct roles.

Role normalisation: Finjobsly normalises job titles into role keys using a shared classifier. That classifier currently groups Account Executive and Sales Development titles under one key, and matches on title substrings, which can capture unrelated roles that happen to contain a matching phrase. For this analysis we bypassed the classifier and segmented titles directly, which is why our figures differ from the site's role widget. We have flagged the classification issue internally.

Salary: Figures come only from listings with a disclosed range. Sample sizes are stated inline. We withhold any benchmark below our minimum-data threshold rather than estimating, which is why no SDR salary benchmark appears here.

Coverage limits: This is Finjobsly's tracked employer panel, not the entire fintech job market. Toast represents 50.0% of the sales bucket analysed, so sales figures in particular should be read as panel-specific rather than industry-wide.
