Twenty-five of the 36 fintech employers Finjobsly tracks have live roles in New York City. As of 20 October 2026, Finjobsly tracked 858 active roles that list New York City as a location, 20.5% of its 4,185 active roles. Only 455 of them name New York alone, because the rest are multi-city postings, led by Stripe (183 New York roles, of which 149 list other cities too) and Mercury (73, all of which list other cities or remote). Fourteen employers each have 22 or more New York roles: Stripe, Ramp, Mercury, Robinhood, Brex, Gusto, Plaid, Gemini, Adyen, Block, Ripple, Betterment, Carta and Chime account for 794 of the 858. This article is an employer-by-employer view of those roles, with role families, seniority, work style where recorded and USD pay where advertised. The live inventory is the New York fintech jobs page.
\nKey findings
- Finjobsly tracked 858 active roles listing New York City at 25 of 36 employers as of 20 October 2026. 455 (53.0%) name New York only, and 403 list it alongside other cities or remote options.
- Fourteen employers with 22 or more roles each hold 794 of the 858 roles (92.5%). The five largest are Stripe (183), Ramp (131), Mercury (73), Robinhood (70) and Brex (68), which together hold 525 (61.2%).
- New York is the whole story at some employers and a footnote at others: all 24 of Betterment's roles, 97% of Mercury's, 88% of Gemini's and 78% of Ramp's are New York roles, against 183 of Stripe's 775 (24%) and 20 of Coinbase's 225 (9%).
- Engineering (203 roles) and sales (172) are the largest families. Stripe has 62 of the sales roles, while engineering is spread more evenly: Ramp 35, Stripe 32, Robinhood 24 and Gusto 21.
- Of 848 New York roles with a seniority level, 641 (75.6%) are Senior or above. The 61 junior and intern roles include 20 Coinbase internships, 11 Ramp roles and 7 at Stripe.
- USD pay ranges are advertised on 358 of the 858 roles (41.7%), but disclosure varies by employer: Stripe advertises a range on 6 of its 183 New York roles, while Betterment does on all 24. The median advertised range is $166,300 to $218,150 (n=358).
Which fintech companies have the most roles in New York?
The table covers every employer with at least eight New York roles. "New York only" means the posting names New York City and no other place. "Share of employer" is New York roles divided by that employer's total active roles in Finjobsly's panel. Seniority shows roles that are Senior, Staff, Lead, Principal, Director or above, out of roles with a level recorded. Work style shows remote, hybrid and onsite counts among roles where it is recorded.

| SoFi | 13 | 3 | 25.5% (51) | 12 of 13 | 13 / 0 / 0 |
Nine other employers have between one and seven New York roles each: Toast (7), Checkout.com (6), Fireblocks (5), FloQast (5), Thought Machine, OakNorth and Wealthfront (2 each), and Affirm and Wise (1 each). Mercury, Betterment and Gemini are the most New York-centred employers in the panel, while Stripe supplies the most roles but only 34 that name New York alone. A candidate should read the Stripe and Mercury figures as "roles where New York is one eligible location" rather than a New York team size.
\nWhat types of fintech roles are open in New York?
Using job-title keyword rules (listed in the methodology), the 858 roles break down as below. Percentages use 858 as the denominator, and a New York share is not directly comparable with a panel-wide share unless the filter is stated.
\n| Role family | New York roles | Share of 858 | Largest employers in the family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering | 203 | 23.7% | Ramp 35, Stripe 32, Robinhood 24, Gusto 21 |
| Sales and go-to-market | 172 | 20.0% | Stripe 62, Ramp 27, Block 14, Brex 11 |
| Product and design | 135 | 15.7% | Stripe 32, Mercury 18, Robinhood 16, Ramp 15 |
| Finance and accounting | 44 | 5.1% | Stripe 9, Robinhood 7, Coinbase 5, Ramp 5 |
| Data, analytics and ML | 43 | 5.0% | Stripe 9, Mercury 7, Plaid 6, Gusto 5 |
| Risk, compliance and legal | 43 | 5.0% | Mercury 8, Ramp 5, Brex 5, Adyen 4 |
| Marketing | 39 | 4.5% | Brex 8, Stripe 7, Betterment 4, Mercury 3 |
| Operations and support | 33 | 3.8% | Stripe 10, Mercury 6, Brex 3, Betterment 3 |
| People and recruiting | 15 | 1.7% | Ramp 5, Stripe 4, Brex 2 |
| Other (unclassified titles) | 131 | 15.3% | Ramp 33, Stripe 16, Robinhood 12, Brex 9 |
Three observations stand out. Product and design is 15.7% of New York roles (135 of 858), against 9.7% of the whole panel (407 of 4,183), so New York listings lean towards product and design relative to the panel. Engineering hiring here is not only a Stripe story: Ramp, Robinhood and Gusto together list 80 engineering roles to Stripe's 32. Data (5.0% against 6.9%) and operations and support (3.8% against 4.4%) are slightly smaller than in the panel overall. For title definitions, see the guide to fintech job titles.
\nHow senior are fintech roles in New York?
Seniority is recorded on 848 of the 858 roles. Of those, 641 (75.6%) are Senior or above, 146 (17.2%) are Mid-Level and 61 (7.2%) are Junior or internship. The junior share is partly an internship effect at a few employers: of the 61, 35 are internships (Coinbase 20, Gemini 6, Ramp 5, Stripe 3, Gusto 1) and 26 are Junior roles (Ramp 6, Stripe 4, Plaid 3, Betterment 2, FloQast 2, Mercury 2, and one each at Adyen, Affirm, Block, Brex, Carta, Wealthfront and Wise). All 20 of Coinbase's New York roles are internships, which is why the table shows 0 Senior roles for it. Outside the internship programmes, entry-level hiring in New York is thin in this data: 26 junior roles across 858. The New York fintech career guide covers how people enter the market.
\nAre New York fintech jobs remote, hybrid or onsite?
Work style is recorded on 643 of the 858 New York roles (74.9%). Of those, 386 (60.0%) are remote, 204 (31.7%) hybrid and 53 (8.2%) onsite. The pattern follows how employers write postings:
- Employers whose postings name New York alone are mostly hybrid: Gusto (53 of 53), Brex (62 of 64 recorded), Betterment (23 of 24) and Coinbase (20 of 20, all internships).
- Remote tags cluster where a posting lists several US cities plus a remote option: Mercury (71 of 71 recorded), Stripe (53 of 71 recorded), Chime (21 of 23) and Block (23 of 25). Ramp's 131 roles are labelled "New York, NY (HQ)" and Plaid's 42 "New York City Office", yet almost all are tagged remote, which suggests the location and work style fields disagree, so check the posting.
- Ripple is the onsite exception: all 25 of its New York roles are onsite, which is 25 of the 53 onsite roles. Stripe (11), Ramp, Robinhood and FloQast (4 each) account for most of the rest.
- Stripe has work style recorded on only 71 of 183 roles, Robinhood on 9 of 70 and Carta on 1 of 24.
Because recorded work style is uneven, treat the overall split as a description of the data rather than of New York hiring. The remote fintech jobs page lists the remote inventory across the panel.
\nWhat do New York fintech roles advertise in pay?
358 of the 858 New York roles (41.7%) advertise a pay range in US dollars, and one more advertises in another currency and is excluded. Across the whole panel, 1,491 of 4,183 roles (35.6%) carry any advertised pay. The two figures overlap (New York roles are part of the panel) and the data cannot say why New York is higher. Among the 358 roles, the median advertised minimum is $166,300 and the median advertised maximum is $218,150. Disclosure is uneven by employer:
\n| Employer | NYC roles with USD range | Median advertised minimum | Median advertised maximum | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brex | 55 of 68 | $187,000 | $234,000 | |
| Ramp | 35 of 131 | $160,000 | $250,000 | |
| Mercury | 33 of 73 | $189,400 | $236,200 | |
| Gusto | 32 of 53 | $163,000 | $204,000 | |
| Plaid | 31 of 42 | $176,400 | $237,000 | |
| Betterment | 24 of 24 | $138,250 | $161,250 | |
| Ripple | 24 of 25 | $186,000 | $227,500 | |
| Gemini | 22 of 28 | $140,000 | $200,000 | |
| Adyen | 22 of 25 | $174,500 | $241,000 | |
| Chime | 19 of 23 | $142,000 | $208,000 | Indicative (n under 20) |
| Carta | 16 of 24 | $156,713 | $204,250 | Indicative |
| Robinhood | 14 of 70 | $166,000 | $195,000 | Indicative |
| Block | 12 of 25 | $194,800 | $251,500 | Indicative |
| Stripe, Checkout.com, Fireblocks | 6, 6 and 4 | Too few to report | Stripe: 6 of 183 roles | |
By role family, medians are shown only where the sample is reasonable. Engineering is $188,000 to $240,000 (n=102, 16 employers), product and design $189,000 to $240,000 (n=51, 12 employers), sales $155,445 to $212,400 (n=45, 13 employers), risk, compliance and legal $161,637 to $215,000 (n=27, 12 employers) and marketing $146,000 to $194,680 (n=20, 9 employers). Data ($170,900 to $233,400, n=18) is indicative only. Employer pay differs widely, with Betterment's median minimum of $138,250 against Mercury's $189,400, so any single New York figure depends on which employers are in the sample. These are advertised ranges, not salaries paid. To check an offer, use the Salary Benchmark.
\nDoes pay transparency law explain what New York employers advertise?
It is relevant context, but Finjobsly's data cannot show compliance or cause. The New York State Department of Labor states that businesses with four or more employees must list compensation ranges for designated job opportunities, promotions and transfers, using either a minimum and maximum annual salary or an hourly rate, must say if a position is commission-based, and notes that New York City has its own pay transparency law (New York State Department of Labor, Pay Transparency, accessed 20 October 2026). Against that backdrop, the gap between employers in the data is the notable point: some advertise ranges on nearly every New York role and Stripe records one on 6 of 183. A missing range in Finjobsly may mean the range sits in text the data does not capture, or that the role is not covered. Either way, check the posting for the range that applies to New York.
\nHow should a candidate use this employer view?
- Engineers: start with Ramp, Stripe, Robinhood and Gusto, then Mercury, Plaid and Brex. Gusto and Brex postings are New York-focused and hybrid, while Ramp and Plaid postings are tagged remote.
- Sales and go-to-market candidates: Stripe lists 62 of the 172, with Ramp next at 27.
- Early-career candidates: the visible entry routes are internships at Coinbase, Gemini, Ramp and Stripe, plus junior roles at Ramp, Stripe and Plaid.
- Anyone comparing pay: use employer-level ranges (Brex, Ramp, Mercury, Gusto, Plaid, Betterment, Ripple, Gemini and Adyen each have 22 or more) rather than the city median.

\nMethodology
All figures come from Finjobsly's live job database (active roles only) as of 20 October 2026, covering 4,185 active roles at 36 tracked employers. This is Finjobsly's panel and not the whole fintech market. A role counts as New York City if its location, city or raw location text contains New York (including "New-York", but not "New York State"), NYC, a borough or neighbourhood name (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, Coney Island, Long Island City), or a standalone "NY" used as a city shorthand in a multi-city list (for example "SF, NY, Seattle"). A "City, NY" value is not counted, which excludes 4 Toast roles in Garden City, Hempstead, Levittown and Binghamton. One Carta role listed as "New York / New Jersey" is counted. Multi-location roles are counted once in New York (403 of 858) and are not counted for any other city here. "New York only" is identified by removing New York terms, hybrid, remote and country labels from the location field and checking that nothing else remains. Roles with placeholder, remote-only or country-only locations are not counted, so the figure is not a complete count of roles that can be done from New York. Role families are assigned from job titles using one rule applied across Finjobsly articles, in this order: data and machine learning (data scientist, machine learning, data or analytics engineer, data and business analyst, BI, analytics, and fraud, risk or credit modelling titles), sales and go-to-market (sales, account executive, business development, SDR or BDR, partnerships, customer success, account management, solutions engineering), support, engineering (engineer, developer, software, SRE, DevOps, architect), product and design, risk, compliance and legal, marketing, finance, people, and operations. Titles that match none are counted as other. Title matching is imperfect, so a few roles may sit in a neighbouring family. The rule was re-run for this update, so family figures should not be compared with the 1 October edition. Family figures cover all 858 New York roles, and panel comparisons use the same rule across the active roles in the panel. Seniority is recorded on 848 roles and work style on 643. Pay uses roles advertised in USD with a minimum of at least $20,000 and a maximum not below the minimum (358 roles), with medians of advertised minimums and maximums. Employer or family cells with fewer than 20 roles are marked indicative. No trend claims are made because the panel was assembled in July 2026 and has grown since the last edition. The external reference is the New York State Department of Labor.
