📍London/Cardiff | 💰£60,000 - £65,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits

⭐ Our Financial Control Team:

Monzo is growing fast - new products, new markets and new locations. As we expand we need to make sure we can support our businesses and control our processes, so we are growing our team to meet these exciting new challenges!

Our team sits within Monzo’s Finance collective and our job is getting the numbers right. • Support our year end process working with external auditors and our Financial Reporting squad.
  • Help review new products, assessing the accounting and implementing them in our banking platform and accounting system
  • Work with the business to assess the impact of changes in accounting standards and make proposals on accounting policy matters for new products launched
  • Help maintain the integrity of our chart of accounts and financial static data
  • Resolve miscellaneous inquiries and support the overall finance team wherever needed - from forecasting and valuations, to bank transfers, transfer pricing and tax policy research!

  • You have a strong understanding of technical accounting standards
  • You have a great eye for detail
  • You’re fascinated by the banking and regulatory landscape, and have a good understanding of key financial controls
  • You’re a self-starter and enjoy tackling what needs doing, whether it’s making a bank transfer or pulling together reports for investors
  • You’re comfortable translating complex information into simple words for people with diverse backgrounds

📍London - Hybrid | 💰£125,000 - £145,000 + equity + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

Our Payments team⭐

Payments is at the heart of Monzo. It’s how our customers move, receive, spend and manage their money, from cards and bank transfers to cross-border payments, merchant acquiring, payment experiences in the app, and the platform infrastructure that underpins the whole bank.

This role sits in our Payments Platform area, working most closely with our Finance Infrastructure squad. The squad sits in Payments, but partners deeply with Finance teams to build the systems, abstractions and capabilities Monzo needs to operate safely, scale efficiently, and expand into new markets. You’ll work on foundational financial infrastructure: the ledgers, data, controls, reporting, reconciliation and platform capabilities that help Monzo understand, account for and manage money across the bank.

This is a role for someone who gets genuinely excited by complex, technical infrastructure. The work is often behind the scenes, but it’s business-critical: it helps Monzo scale, launch new products and markets, support Finance, and keep the bank running safely.

🔑You’ll play a key role by...

  • Defining the product strategy and roadmap for Finance Infrastructure within Payments Platform.
  • Partnering closely with Engineering, Finance and Payments leaders to understand what Monzo needs from its financial systems today and as we scale.
  • Moving the team from reactive delivery towards a more strategic, product-led approach, asking why we’re building things, what good looks like, and how today’s choices support Monzo’s long-term needs.
  • Translating complex finance, accounting, operational and regulatory needs into scalable platform capabilities.
  • Prioritising across competing stakeholder needs, balancing urgent delivery with long-term system health.
  • Helping Monzo build financial infrastructure that can support multiple products, entities, countries, currencies and regulatory environments.
  • Building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Finance, Engineering, Product and Operations.
  • Bringing strong product discipline, technical curiosity and systems thinking to a space that is critical to Monzo’s future growth.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’re a strong senior Product Manager with experience owning complex technical, platform, infrastructure or financial systems.
  • You have enough technical depth to partner credibly with engineers and reason about systems, trade-offs, dependencies and long-term architecture.
  • You’re excited by “boring but critical” infrastructure, things like ledgers, reconciliation, financial data, controls, reporting, internal platforms, abstractions or backend systems.
  • You can work with senior and cross-functional stakeholders, including Finance, Engineering, Product and operational teams.
  • You’re comfortable bringing product thinking into ambiguous or stakeholder-heavy environments, and moving teams from request-led delivery towards long-term strategy.
  • You’re high-agency, ambitious and excited to stretch yourself in a team with a high bar.
  • You care about customers and business outcomes, even when the work is several layers removed from the end customer experience.

MonzoLondon
Full-timeNot specifiedAug 24, 2026

🚀 We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️

📍 London (Hybrid) | 💰£60,000 - £64,000 (based on experience level) + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

At Monzo, our Executive Assistants are much more than traditional administrative support - they are the glue holding everything together!

Due to internal moves, and a growing team, we have two roles available within the Technology area of Monzo.

  • Role one: Supporting our CTO, Matej Pfajfar and VP of Product Engineering, Steve Martin.
  • Role two: Supporting our VP of Platform Engineering, Tom Leitch and incoming General Manager of Fincrime.

🔴 Both roles will work closely with Engineering and the Technology areas of Monzo, and you will partner with a team of EAs already in Tech, and across Monzo. For these two roles we are only considering candidates working, or who have worked, within Engineering or wider Technology teams and Leaders and who are looking for their next career move.

We see our EAs as strategic business partners to senior leaders, helping them and their teams operate at their best. You'll be deeply embedded within leadership teams, driving organisational effectiveness, improving communication and helping leaders navigate the complexity that comes with scaling one of the UK's most ambitious Fintechs.

This is a role for someone who thrives in fast paced environments, enjoys solving problems, loves bringing order to ambiguity and is excited by the opportunity to have a genuine impact on how teams and leaders operate.

‼️ Please note - This is not an entry level role. We are only able to consider candidates with previous Executive Assistant experience supporting senior leaders in Technology and Engineering teams. Our EAs operate as strategic business partners in a fast paced, high growth environment, so we're looking for someone who can hit the ground running from day one.

🔑 You'll play a key role by...

Acting as a strategic partner to your leader:
You'll develop a deep understanding of your leaders' priorities, challenges and goals, helping them stay focused on the work that matters most. You'll anticipate needs, identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, challenge where appropriate and act as a trusted extension of the leaders you support.

Driving organisational effectiveness:
You'll drive leadership team effectiveness by creating structure, improving communication flows, driving accountability and ensuring important initiatives continue to move forward. You'll be comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping others do the same.

Managing time, priorities and focus:
You'll own complex calendars and competing priorities, ensuring your leaders spend their time where they can have the greatest impact. You'll proactively challenge, prioritise, make informed trade offs and make recommendations based on a strong understanding of business context.

Building strong relationships across Monzo:

You'll build trusted relationships across the business and become a key point of connection between teams and stakeholders. You'll influence without formal authority to create alignment, remove blockers and ensure information flows effectively.

Leading projects and initiatives:

From leadership off-sites and engagement initiatives to process improvements and cross functional projects, you'll lead initiatives from concept through to delivery, ensuring momentum is maintained despite competing priorities and creating positive outcomes for Monzo and our customers.

Enabling decision making:

You'll help leaders prepare for important meetings, decisions and conversations by ensuring they have the right information, context and insights at the right time.

Operating with judgement and discretion. You'll regularly handle sensitive information and support leaders working in a highly regulated environment. You'll exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality and proactively identify potential risks or issues before they arise.

Contributing beyond your immediate role:

You'll be part of a collaborative Executive Assistant team that is constantly looking for ways to improve how we work. Whether that's sharing best practices, mentoring others, exploring new technology or helping evolve the EA function, you'll have opportunities to make an impact beyond your immediate support responsibilities.

🤩 We'd love to hear from you if…

  • 🔴 You have experience working as an Executive Assistant for Engineering, or Technology Leaders in a fast paced environment, and can operate as a strategic partner from day one.
You have significant experience supporting senior leaders in a fast paced environment.
  • You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable making decisions, solving problems and navigating competing priorities.
  • You operate as a trusted partner to leaders, not just an administrator.
  • You have excellent judgement, strong communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • You build strong relationships and influence effectively across all levels of an organisation.
  • You're experienced using Slack, (G Suite), AI and other modern workplace tools, and are comfortable leveraging technology to work efficiently.
  • Experience in scale up or similarly fast moving environments is highly desirable.
  • You can commit to 2 - 3 days a week in our London office (Shoreditch)

✨ What success looks like in this role:

  • Leaders are able to focus on the highest impact work.
  • Leadership teams are aligned, engaged and operating effectively.
  • Risks, conflicts and challenges are identified early and addressed proactively.
  • Teams have clear communication, accountability and momentum.
  • Important initiatives continue to move forward despite competing priorities.

📍London | 💰£43,000 - £58,000 | Benefits  ✨ | 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract

Our Business Banking team ⭐

Monzo Business is on a mission to make banking effortless for small businesses. We help people start, run and grow their businesses with simple, transparent banking and tools that reduce financial admin, so they can spend more time focusing on what matters most.

We're launching Monzo Business in Spain, initially focusing on sole traders and simple micro-businesses. While many customers will use a self-serve journey, we know there are moments where speaking to a real person can make all the difference.

As our Sales Support Specialist, you'll be based in London as part of our UK Sales team, working closely with Spain Go-To-Market, Growth Product, Customer Operations, Risk and Compliance. You'll combine hands-on sales with experimentation and customer insight — helping high-intent customers move forward while shaping the playbook for how Sales can best support our growth in Spain.

This isn't a traditional role focused solely on outbound sales or short-term conversion. You'll have the opportunity to test, learn and influence how we build a safe, effective and scalable sales motion for Spain from the ground up.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Supporting and converting high-intent Spanish-speaking prospective customers through phone and email, using consultative sales skills to understand their business, needs and questions.
  • Working across assisted-conversion journeys such as waitlist conversion, lead follow-up, product education and application recovery.
  • Explaining Monzo Business's proposition, product capabilities and application process clearly, helping customers understand their next step without providing financial, tax, legal or regulatory advice.
  • Qualifying and prioritising opportunities, handling objections and following up consistently to help customers progress through their journey.
  • Helping run GTM and conversion experiments, capturing customer outcomes and working with Spain GTM and Growth Product to understand what's working and what we should change.
  • Turning customer conversations into actionable insight by identifying recurring questions, objections, unmet needs and journey friction.
  • Helping shape our Spain sales playbook, including messaging, qualification, objection handling, scripts and customer journeys.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records and working closely with Customer Operations, Risk and Compliance to ensure customers receive the right support and escalations when needed.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You're fluent in Spanish and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong understanding of Spanish culture, customer expectations and communication styles.
  • You have hands-on sales experience, ideally as an Account Executive, Sales Development Representative or Business Development Representative, and are comfortable qualifying opportunities, handling objections and following up with customers.
  • You have experience selling to or supporting small businesses, ideally within financial services, SaaS or another complex service environment.
  • You're a consultative communicator who listens carefully, asks thoughtful questions and can explain complex topics simply while building trust with customers.
  • You're excited by experimentation and comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-changing environment where you'll help shape processes and playbooks as well as follow them.
  • You're highly organised, comfortable working with CRM tools or structured customer data, and bring strong judgement, integrity and customer care to every interaction.
  • You enjoy working cross-functionally and can turn what you're hearing from customers into useful insights for teams such as Product, GTM, Marketing, Operations, Risk and Compliance.

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Selling to or supporting Spanish sole traders, micro-businesses or SMEs.
  • Banking, payments or another regulated industry.
  • Salesforce or a similar CRM platform.
  • Spanish company formation or small-business financial administration.
  • Customer research, voice-of-customer programmes, sales enablement or GTM experimentation.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

About our Data Discipline

We have a strong culture of data-driven decision making across the whole company. Data is central to how we understand our customers, shape our products, manage risk and grow Monzo sustainably. We believe in empowering teams with high-quality, trusted data and self-serve analytics, while creating space for Data practitioners to focus on the highest-impact questions, opportunities and decisions.

Our Data discipline is centralised, but deeply embedded in Monzo’s product areas. Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers and Analysts work in cross-functional squads alongside Engineers, Designers, Product Managers, Marketers and other specialists. This means Data is not a downstream service: we help shape strategy, challenge thinking, build the data foundations teams need to move quickly, and share accountability for customer and commercial outcomes.

Our Payments team ⭐

At Monzo, payments are more than just moving money from A to B. They are a core part of how customers experience trust, speed, and financial control every day. As a Data Director in Payments, you would help shape seamless local payment experiences, ensuring customers can pay and get paid reliably while continuing to modernise the infrastructure that powers millions of transactions behind the scenes.

The role also sits at the intersection of Monzo’s broader ambition to build truly borderless banking and expand into new markets. That means designing products and payment capabilities that work effortlessly across geographies, currencies, and customer needs, while helping Monzo scale into new markets with the same simplicity and transparency that defines the brand today.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to help shape Monzo’s payments strategy to make Monzo's global ambitions a reality, enabling revenue and customer growth with a resilient, self-serve banking platform.

To succeed, you should be excited about solving tough, ambiguous business problems with analytical rigour, commercial viability and execution effectiveness

Your day-to-day

  • Establish yourself as a trusted member of the Payments Leadership team, enabling better decisions across Payments and the wider Data Discipline
  • Co-drive Payments strategy and product decisions with Product and Engineering, bringing Data into discovery early to shape priorities and challenge thinking
  • Identify untapped opportunities for commercial optimisation, including across pricing, commercialisation, investment and customer growth
  • Set the data strategy for Payments, including the operating model, team priorities, architecture, technical debt and key metrics and drivers
  • Translate between technical, product and commercial perspectives to help teams make clear, high-impact decisions
  • Develop and scale a high-performing team of data professionals sharing accountability for product and business outcomes.

You should apply if:

What we’re doing here at Monzo excites you!

  • You have experience driving payments innovation and product strategy forward in a fast-growing business
  • You combine deep Data expertise with strong product and commercial judgement.
  • You can move comfortably from detailed metrics or architecture discussions to customer strategy, pricing and business outcomes
  • You are an empathetic people leader who can build trust quickly, raise the performance bar and retain excellent talent
  • You have experience growing and leading a full stack data team, including individual contributors and managers across Data Science, Analytics Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering and Analytics
  • You have experience collaborating with senior cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing and risk/control functions

The Interview Process

After an informal ~30 min recruiter call, our interview process involves 2 main stages. We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions!

  1. Initial Call (1 hour) You'll meet with one of our senior data leaders.
  2. Loop Stage - This is one stage with 4 interviews (totalling 4 hours) split between a collaboration with one of our engineers on a technical exercise, as well as behavioural and leadership interviews. You can have this all in one day or split these across multiple days, whichever your prefer.

Our average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability. You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you do have any specific questions ahead of this please contact us on tech-hiring@monzo.com

📍London/UK Remote | 💰£68,000 - £92,000 (Dependent On Experience) + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

About the role
We are looking for a CRM Manager to help us launch, build and grow CRM across the EU. This is a foundational role: you'll be responsible for establishing CRM from the ground up across different EU regions, defining how we communicate with customers across their entire lifecycle, and building the processes and infrastructure that will underpin long-term engagement and retention across EU markets as we grow.

The ideal candidate is a native or fluent Spanish/Italian speaker with a strong track record in CRM execution across multiple channels and markets.

You'll be comfortable with ambiguity, energised by the challenge of building something new, and skilled at turning early signals into structured, always-on programmes that drive sustainable growth  - with the flexibility to extend your remit across other EU markets as Monzo's international footprint expands.

⭐ Our CRM team

We are a fast growing team on a mission to make money work for everyone. We’re responsible for designing high-impact communications across our products and the customer lifecycle to bring our Monzo magic to life.

We’re a hands on and highly collaborative team, working with lots of different folks across Monzo to drive innovation and automation of our messaging. We’re driven by data and excited by experimentation. There’s a huge opportunity for a proactive and passionate CRM Manager to shape the future of our engagement strategy and programmes at Monzo.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Establishing CRM in the EU  - defining and building the foundational communication framework for the market, from onboarding and activation through to long-term retention and engagement, with an eye on scalability across other EU markets
  • Owning always-on communications  - being the overseer and executor of BAU campaigns across email, push notifications and in-app, ensuring consistency, quality and relevance for EU customers
  • Executing customer lifecycle CRM journeys across multiple touchpoints, identifying the key moments in a customer's journey where CRM can drive the greatest impact
  • Identifying required data points and events needed to launch brand new CRM journeys tailored to EU markets
  • Leading CRM for the EU  - acting as the subject matter expert across all product areas and serving as the primary CRM point of contact for EU-based and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Translating data insights into actionable opportunities, using performance signals to optimise existing campaigns and prioritise what to build next
  • Collaborating with country and central stakeholders across product, data, engineering, legal, compliance and the wider marketing team to ensure campaigns are compliant, well-targeted and commercially aligned
  • Building and documenting processes  - creating scalable ways of working between the EU CRM function and central teams, ensuring high-quality documentation that supports knowledge sharing and consistency across markets
  • Developing segmentation strategies in collaboration with CRM Managers and data analysts to reach the right audiences with the right message at the right time
  • Monitoring campaign performance rigorously, ensuring campaigns are executed safely and in line with regulatory requirements across EU markets
  • Owning Campaign QA  - acting as a second pair of eyes on campaign set-up before launch, maintaining a high bar for accuracy and customer experience
  • Delivering campaigns with a test and learn approach, generating hypotheses, running experiments and iterating based on results

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if you …

  • Are a native or fluent Spanish or Italian language speaker - you're confident communicating with customers, local stakeholders and regulatory bodies across EU markets
  • Have hands-on experience launching CRM in a new market or region, ideally from scratch  - you know what good foundations look like and how to build them quickly
  • Have hands-on experience taking a campaign from signal to roll-out — scoping, planning, approval, build, test, analysis and iteration
  • Have a proven track record in CRM, with experience designing and implementing successful campaigns and automated journeys across email, push and in-app
  • Have experience using a CRM platform for delivery (Braze experience preferred)
  • Have Fintech or Financial Services experience, with an understanding of the compliance and regulatory considerations that come with it
  • Have strong analytical skills - you can interpret data, generate hypotheses and use insights to inform strategic decisions (Looker experience is an advantage)
  • Have experience working with product and country teams, ensuring CRM activity is aligned to local priorities and customer needs
  • Have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a keen eye for detail
  • Take a collaborative approach  - you bring stakeholders along with you and are comfortable working across a matrix of central and local teams
  • Have a problem-solving mindset  - you're resourceful, proactive and able to find the right path forward when the answer isn't obvious
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity - you can make good decisions with incomplete information and move with pace in a fast-changing environment

🙌 What’s in it for you

💰£68,000 - £92,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

📍This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)

Our Product team ⭐

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking. Over the last 10 years, Monzo has grown from a prepaid card into a much broader range of products, including personal and business bank accounts, joint accounts, accounts for 16 - 17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards - with plenty more to come.

Product is at the heart of Monzo’s long-term success and our ambition to change people’s relationship with money. Working closely with Engineering, Design, Research, Data and teams across the business, our Product team sets Monzo’s product vision and strategy and drives its execution.

We’re a scaling team with lots to accomplish and some big questions to answer. As Chief of Staff to our Chief Product Officer, you’ll work closely with our CPO and Product Leadership Team, helping shape our product vision and strategy, seed new initiatives and build effective ways of working that help our Product organisation thrive.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Helping formulate and drive key projects for our Chief Product Officer, from structuring our product roadmap and setting organisational goals to evolving our product strategy.
  • Leading strategic and ad-hoc projects for the CPO and Product Leadership Team, including initiatives that improve how effectively and quickly our teams can deliver.
  • Staying close to our performance data, understanding the underlying drivers and creating a regular cadence for reporting, including coordinating our monthly business reviews.
  • Collaborating across Monzo to unblock complex challenges around priorities, dependencies and headcount, and helping teams make better decisions when there are competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • Conceiving, executing and supporting initiatives across Product team engagement, performance management and discipline progression.
  • Making sure our CPO is brilliantly prepared for key meetings and interactions with regulators, investors, journalists, Board members and employee forums.
  • Preparing and sharing major communications, and at times representing the CPO in key forums across Monzo.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’re comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and ambiguity, and you’re great at turning complexity into clarity.
  • You’re an excellent project manager who can move comfortably between strategic priorities and tactical execution, keeping the important details on track.
  • You’re highly analytical and quantitative, comfortable working with spreadsheets, Looker or similar tools, and use data to inform decisions wherever possible.
  • You’re brilliant at collaboration and stakeholder management. You can thoughtfully challenge others, build alignment and act as a bridge between Product, Engineering, Design, Data and senior leadership.
  • You have experience in Product, a high-growth company or the technology sector, and you’re excited by the challenges that come with scaling a Product organisation.
  • You’re a curious, proactive problem solver and excellent communicator who enjoys context switching, takes initiative and knows how to focus yourself and others on the highest-leverage work.

Our Operations Machine Learning team ⭐

We’re building the machine learning and optimisation systems that help Monzo provide fast, efficient and resilient customer support at scale.

You’ll lead Machine Learning for our Workforce Management vertical: the organisation that makes sure Monzo has the right human support supply to meet customer demand. The team works on demand forecasting, real-time supply <> demand matching, problem routing and escalation, and predictive models that help us understand how long work will take, what might become late, and where the next best human support should be assigned.

This is a great role for someone who is still close to technical work. You might be a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Senior Machine Learning Scientist or Senior Machine Learning Engineer who has recently been building models and systems yourself, and is excited to grow into a broader leadership role.

Not everything here is about LLMs. You’ll work on rigorous ML, forecasting, optimisation and operations research problems where quantitative thinking, pragmatic delivery and strong product judgement really matter.

You’ll lead a growing team of Machine Learning Scientists, embedded in product squads working alongside data scientists, backend, mobile and web engineers, product managers, user researchers, designers and operations specialists.

🔑You’ll play a key role by…

  • Shaping the ML strategy for Workforce Management, helping us decide where ML, forecasting and optimisation can have the biggest impact for customers and human agents.
  • Leading the design, build and delivery of production ML systems across forecasting, routing, assignment, escalation and time-to-completion prediction.
  • Staying close to the technical details: helping the team frame problems well, choose the right modelling approach, define robust validation, review trade-offs and ship safely.
  • Working with Product, Engineering, Data and Operations leaders to turn ambiguous operational problems into pragmatic, iterative ML systems that improve real customer outcomes.
  • Coaching and developing Machine Learning Scientists through regular 1:1s, feedback and technical guidance.
  • Creating healthy ways of working for the team: clear priorities, strong technical standards, good documentation, sensible monitoring, and space for people to do their best work.
  • Contributing to the wider Machine Learning discipline at Monzo, helping us scale how we build, ship and operate ML systems in production.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’ve recently worked as a hands-on Machine Learning practitioner, for example as a Senior IC, Tech Lead, Team Lead or ML manager.
  • You have strong foundations in ML, statistics, forecasting, optimisation or operations research, and enjoy applying them to messy real-world problems.
  • You’ve built, shipped or owned ML systems in production, and understand what it takes to make models useful, reliable, monitored and safe.
  • You can move between technical detail and business context, explaining complex ML ideas clearly to technical and non-technical people.
  • Coaching others is something you enjoy and take seriously. You may already have people management experience, but we’re also open to people taking their first formal step into management.
  • Ambiguous problem spaces energise you. The right answer might involve a model, an algorithm, a product change, an operational process, or a combination of all four.
  • Customer outcomes matter to you, and you want to build systems that help people get answers to their problems quickly and efficiently.
  • You’re adaptable, curious and excited by quantitative problems.

Our Credit Platform squad builds the shared infrastructure that powers lending decisioning across Monzo. We develop the core credit valuation (NPV) infrastructure, decisioning capabilities and data foundations that enable our Product Credit teams to develop, evaluate and deploy lending strategies across products and markets. As we scale internationally, our platform is at the heart of delivering consistent, scalable credit capabilities globally. You'll lead a team of five Credit Analysts, shaping the evolution of our platform, pushing the boundaries to unlock the next generation of lending capabilities and drive efficiencies.

About Business Banking at Monzo

Since its launch five years ago, Monzo Business Banking has been dedicated to delivering the very best of Monzo to small businesses. Today, it's an award-winning service, empowering over 1 million businesses across the UK.

As Monzo expands across Europe, Business Banking is entering its next phase: adapting our products and proposition for small businesses in new markets, while continuing our mission to make money work for businesses.

The Role

We’re looking for several Senior PMMs to own Product Marketing for entire products and experiences.

A useful distinction - at Monzo, Product Marketing starts upstream in product-market fit. We're embedded in squads with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Designers, User Researchers, and Sales, bringing the voice of the customer and market into what we build, how we position it, and how we take it to market. We own customer and market understanding, positioning, proposition, launch strategy, and sales enablement. We then partner closely with Integrated Marketing, who lead campaign strategy, creative direction, channel execution, and growth. Together, we build the right products and help them succeed in market.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You'll own Product Marketing for a product end-to-end: understanding customers, shaping product strategy, defining positioning, and helping bring launches to market.

Where you could join

  • Business Banking EU. Business Banking is entering its next phase of growth as we expand beyond the UK. In this role, you'll define how Monzo Business Banking succeeds in new European markets - understanding local customer needs, building the proposition that translates our core product into local relevance, and working across Product, Growth, Marketing, and local teams to bring those products to market. This is a senior role for someone with high autonomy who loves turning dense customer and market insight into practical decisions about what should launch.
  • Business Banking. Business Banking is growing quickly, serving more than one million businesses across the UK while expanding into increasingly sophisticated customer needs. In this role, you'll shape how our products are positioned, sold, and adopted—from defining compelling product narratives to enabling Sales and partnering with Growth and Marketing on launches. This is a role for someone who enjoys sitting at the intersection of Product and commercial teams, translating customer insight into positioning, propositions, and go-to-market strategies that help more businesses choose Monzo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set Product Marketing Strategy for a set of products. You'll define a one-year Product Marketing strategy for a major area of Business Banking, connecting customer insight, market opportunity, and commercial priorities into a clear direction for the product area, rather than one individual product, with measurable business outcomes.
  • Develop differentiated positioning & messaging: You'll create compelling positioning, messaging, and value propositions that differentiate Monzo in the market and resonate with different customer segments. You'll build messaging frameworks that Product, Sales, Integrated Marketing, and broader marketing teams use consistently across launches and customer journeys.
  • Drive competitive intelligence and market insights: You’ll build and maintain the market view for your product area. You'll become the recognised authority on your customer segment and competitive landscape, building a coherent view of the market from customer research, commercial data, competitor intelligence, and Sales insight. Your recommendations will shape product strategy, positioning, go-to-market, and commercial priorities across the Business Banking collective.
  • Shape product strategy across markets. You'll partner closely with Product, Research, Design, and Data to identify customer problems, market opportunities, and competitive gaps that influence roadmap priorities. Your customer and market insight will shape what we build, not just how we bring it to market.
  • Set the go-to-market strategy for priority products and markets. You'll define what audiences we prioritise, why they would choose Monzo, what needs to be true for them to switch and stay, and what success looks like - giving Product, Sales, Marketing, and local market teams a shared strategic direction for how the product enters or scales in market.
  • Own product representation across the customer journey. You'll define the core proposition and value messages that should carry through key customer and sales touchpoints, so customers consistently understand why the product matters. You'll partner with teams across Product, Sales, Marketing, CRM, and local markets to make sure the customer experience reflects the agreed positioning.
  • Enable localisation: You'll work with local market teams to determine what should remain globally consistent and what should adapt locally, ensuring positioning, customer journeys, and launches resonate in each market while strengthening the overall Monzo Business Banking proposition.

This is for you if:

  • You're recognised for your Product Marketing expertise. You're comfortable owning Product Marketing across a product area or market, and people seek your perspective on customers, competitors, positioning, and product strategy.
  • You bring senior stakeholders with you & thrive in cross-functional environments. You work effectively across Product, Sales, Growth, Marketing, and Research, building alignment around difficult decisions and helping teams make confident product and commercial choices.
  • You raise the quality of the work around you. You enjoy mentoring less experienced PMMs, sharing your expertise, and improving how the team works through better frameworks, feedback, and knowledge sharing.

The Interview Process

Our interview process involves three main stages:

  • Initial Call (45mins)
  • Case Study Presentation (1hour)
  • x2 final interviews via Google Meet (45mins for each interview)

This process should take around 3-4 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!

We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.

You’ll hear from us throughout the application process, but if you’ve got any questions, please reach out to hiring@monzo.com. You can also use this email address to let us know if there’s anything we can do to make the process easier for you because of disability, neurodiversity or anything else.

What’s in it for you:

  • £80,000 - £105,000 as a base salary
  • This role will be based out of our London office next to Liverpool Street station in a hybrid approach of office based and home working, or remotely within the UK
  • We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.
  • Learning budget of £1,000 a year for books, training courses and conferences
  • And much more, see our full list of benefits here

We’ll only close this role once we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out.

 ⭐ Our Mobile Engineering team

There are ~40 Android engineers at Monzo and we’re looking for more to join the team. We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you.

Monzo works in small, interdisciplinary teams

We have around 400 engineers out of roughly 4,500 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

We’re searching for product-focused Android engineers to evolve our native mobile app. You’ll take pride in building polished user experiences, and you’ll balance the need for well-tested resilient code with moving fast and iterating.

You’ll be working on a product that is a part of day to day life for more than 11 million people already, and your work here will shape the way that people interact with their finances.

As an Android Engineer at Monzo you'll work in a small, autonomous product squad alongside iOS Engineers, Backend Engineers, User Researchers, Product Designers, Product Managers, QA Testers, and Data Scientists.

You and your team will be responsible for an overall company goal, rather than building a specific feature - you'll have the opportunity to have impact on both what we build, and how we build it. Mobile engineers at Monzo work on everything from the personal banking product to customer support tools. We also have a small mobile platform squad dedicated to enabling other engineers to move faster.

Every week we meet as an Android discipline to discuss tools, techniques, problems we're encountering across the company and work together to improve our codebase and processes.

You'll report to an engineering manager who will meet with you every 1-2 weeks 1:1. They’re dedicated to helping you grow and develop as an engineer.

Our Android app

Our app is 100% Kotlin, built using MVVM (Model View ViewModel) and Coordinators, and modularised by product feature.

We use RxJava, Retrofit and Moshi for API calls and Dagger for dependency injection. We’re starting to use Coroutines for most new features. Room is our choice for persistence, and we use repositories for interacting with data. We’ve built out our design system with Compose.

We use GitHub Pull Requests to do code reviews, and write unit tests for our ViewModels, Coordinators, and any other classes which contain logic. We write tests for all of our Compose screens and snapshot test them with Happo. We also use Espresso to test flows, which are executed via our continuous integration system.

We’ve previously written about building Monzo Chat on Android, which goes into detail on some of these elements.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You care about the impact your work has on our customers, and optimise for outcomes rather than the number of lines of code you output
  • You’re excited about and have experience in programming in Kotlin
  • You’ve shipped and iterated on at least one app in the Play Store
  • You have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes and you want to make data-informed decisions
  • You love turning excellent design into beautiful products
  • You’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
  • You have an understanding computer science principles

We're on the look out for L30 Engineers at the moment, you can read more in our Engineering Progression Framework you will be interviewed across the whole framework, so if you're not sure what level you're aiming for chat to your recruiter!

🙌 What’s in it for you:

💰Base salary range for this role is depending on experience + equity + stock options & benefits

⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, at times that suit you and your team.

📚 Learning budget of €1,200 a year for books, training courses and conferences

🌈 The application journey has 3 key steps

Our interview process involves three main stages:

  1. Initial Call
  2. Take home task or pair coding exercise
  3. Final interview including a system design and a behavioural interview

This process should take around 2-3 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!

We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.

There’s a detailed blog on the interview process, for extra details, hints and tips.

We’ll only close this role once we have enough applications for the next stage. Please submit your application as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out.

  • Monitoring and interpreting local regulatory updates from the Banco de España and other relevant authorities, ensuring changes are effectively integrated into local operating procedures.
  • Coordinating and drafting regulatory risk and compliance reports for local authorities, the Spain Branch Management Committee and EU-level Risk Committees as appropriate.

  • Championing a strong risk and compliance culture across Monzo's Spanish operations by developing and delivering comprehensive training and awareness programs for employees.

Operational, ICT, Security, Data & Third-Party Risk Oversight

  • Overseeing the branch’s operational risk profile, ensuring that internal incidents, errors, and near-misses are accurately captured, investigated and mitigated.
  • Contributing to the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring branch-specific risks are accurately identified and assessed with appropriate controls in place.

  • Overseeing Payment Services compliance (including PSD2/PSD3/PSR transitions), monitoring transaction resilience, instant payment performance, and operational uptime.
  • Overseeing risk and control assessments for local Third-Party Providers (TPPs) and outsourced critical services, ensuring inter-company and external vendor SLAs are monitored in compliance with local outsourcing regulations

Conduct Risk, Compliance & Consumer Protection

  • Acting as the Customer Service Representative of the Branch in accordance with article 5 of Order ECO/734/2004.
  • Reviewing and overseeing the conduct risk profile within the branch, ensuring that product design, marketing materials and customer interactions result in positive outcomes and comply with the Spanish Consumer and Conduct rules.
  • Monitoring and challenging local compliance processes, including complaints handling data, trend analysis, product governance and Go-To-Market (GTM) strategies.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have a minimum of 7 years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance or Internal Audit within a regulated retail bank, digital bank, or top-tier fintech operating in Spain

  • You are a native or completely bilingual Spanish speaker with excellent professional proficiency in English (written and spoken), capable of translating complex local regulations into corporate/Group updates.

Our People Governance & Accountability team ⭐

We call it Monzo Magic. Mission. Action. Growth. Inclusion. Care. It runs through everything that we do and within the People Collective it’s how we set Monzo up for success by bringing mission led people together to do work and banking differently. We foster a culture that centres on our customers and brings together the best of tech with the best of banking. We empower a diverse, high performing, innovative and agile workforce in doing the most impactful work of their careers to date. It’s an ambitious task to scale this culture and ways of working, but it’s a mission we’re committed to.

At Monzo, we want governance to do more than keep us safe. It should be clear, practical and scalable. It should help us grow with confidence, and make accountability work well in real life.

That’s what our People Governance & Accountability team is here to do.

We’re a small, high-impact team working at the intersection of People, Legal, Compliance and Risk. We own the end-to-end design and operation of Monzo’s accountability and people governance frameworks globally, making sure our approach stands up to internal and external scrutiny and works effectively in practice.

We’re looking for a People Governance and Accountability Senior Manager to join us. This is an individual contributor role with meaningful scope. You’ll own operational delivery across our people governance and accountability frameworks, and continuously improve how they work over time, and partner with teams across Monzo to keep things clear, efficient and well controlled. You’ll report to the People Governance & Accountability Lead and work closely with two other team members.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

…owning and coordinating the day-to-day operational delivery of people governance and accountability at Monzo. You’ll help turn complex regulatory requirements into practical, efficient and well-controlled processes that work at scale.

This isn’t just about keeping things compliant. You’ll help make sure Monzo can operate confidently across people-related regulation, accountability regimes and broader governance requirements in multiple jurisdictions, while improving the experience and efficiency of how the work gets done.

This role has influence and impact across the People Collective and Monzo as a whole. The quality of your judgement, attention to detail, delivery and partnership will directly affect how effectively Monzo manages accountability, risk and regulatory scrutiny as we grow.

What you’ll be doing

This role blends people and governance expertise, regulatory knowledge, operational ownership and systems thinking.

As you scale with us, you will:

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of our accountability regimes (SMCR and IAF/SEAR), making sure key processes, controls, timelines and outputs are delivered to a high standard.
  • Run business-as-usual activities across fit and proper assessments, certification, accountability processes (including applications and mapping), governance documentation and regulatory reporting.
  • Coordinate day-to-day work across the team, ensuring priorities are clear and delivery stays on track.
  • Act as a trusted subject matter expert on accountability and people governance, supporting stakeholders to navigate complexity and make thoughtful, risk-based decisions.
  • Build and evolve our broader people governance framework, including how we manage people-related risk, controls, decision-making and organisational change.
  • Identify and deliver improvements to processes, controls and tooling, making our frameworks more efficient, scalable and easier to use.
  • Partner closely with teams across People, Legal, Compliance, Risk & Controls, Company Secretariat our Board and the wider business to land decisions and keep work moving.
  • Support audit, assurance and regulatory engagement with high-quality evidence, papers, reporting and process management.
  • Use data and insight to spot themes, identify risks, prioritise improvements and shape the team’s operational roadmap.
  • Work closely with the People Governance & Accountability Lead on higher-risk issues, strategic changes and the continued evolution of our global frameworks.

What you’ll own

Operational ownership

You’ll own the day-to-day running of people governance and accountability at Monzo, making sure our core frameworks operate effectively, deadlines are met, outputs are high quality, and work is delivered with consistency and control.

Continuous improvement

You’ll identify smarter ways to do things, improving processes, controls and tooling. That could mean automating manual work, evolving governance cadences, or building more efficient and scalable workflows that reduce risk and friction.

Cross-functional delivery

You’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure people governance and accountability requirements are clear, practical and implemented effectively across the business.

Risk and judgement

You’ll apply thoughtful, risk-based judgement to support pragmatic decision-making, balancing pace, control, consistency and business needs.

Insight and prioritisation

You’ll use data, reporting and feedback to identify themes, spot risks and prioritise where the team should focus, helping shape how the function continues to evolve.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have strong experience in a regulated environment, ideally in governance, compliance, risk, or legal.
  • You have hands-on experience of SMCR in a UK dual-regulated (FCA/PRA) firm, and familiarity with IAF/SEAR or other accountability regimes.
  • You can translate regulatory or policy requirements into clear, practical processes, training and guidance.
  • You have experience planning and leading projects from end to end, driving delivery and keeping work on track.
  • You’re collaborative and thoughtful in how you work, and you’re great at bringing together different stakeholders to solve problems well.
  • You are a strong communicator, whether you’re writing governance papers, improving processes or talking through nuanced decisions.
  • You’re comfortable building relationships with senior stakeholders and presenting to senior forums.
  • You’re comfortable working independently and adapting to changing priorities, focusing quickly on higher-risk areas when needed.
  • You enjoy building and improving ways of working - spotting gaps, bringing structure and creating more effective, reliable processes.
  • You use data and judgement together, and you’re confident making pragmatic recommendations when there isn’t a perfect answer.
  • You thrive in a fast-moving environment where you have to balance control, pace and practicality.

Staff Analytics Engineer - Borrowing

📍London/Cardiff/UK Remote | 💰 £121,600-164,600 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance and benefits | Hear from the team

⭐ Our Borrowing Analytics Engineering Team

Our mission in Borrowing is to help people achieve their financial goals through better borrowing. Our customers borrow money to achieve something in their lives — whether that’s making a big life event affordable, buying something they need now without affecting their monthly budget, or getting by until payday. We’re shaping this mission by building products our customers love, while safely scaling some of Monzo’s biggest revenue lines.

Borrowing is one of Monzo’s most complex and fastest-growing domains. We operate 12+ products across multiple geographies, underpinned by 1,700+ data models and an analytics engineering team that’s scaling to match. We’re in the middle of a major data architecture transformation, expanding into new markets, and building the next generation of data infrastructure to support it all.

We’re looking for a Staff Analytics Engineer to help shape how Borrowing builds and uses data at scale. Reporting to the Borrowing Data Director, you’ll work across product, credit, engineering, Data Platform, and analytics engineering teams to turn complex technical problems into clearer systems, stronger data products, and better business decisions.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Architecting Borrowing’s data layer at scale. Partnering across Analytics Engineering, Product, Engineering, Credit, and Data Platform to shape how 1,700+ models across 12+ products are structured, connected, and evolved. You’ll set shared patterns that help teams build trusted, consistent, and scalable data products across Borrowing.
  • Designing and governing data products. Moving us beyond ad-hoc tables toward well-defined, contractual data assets with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and interfaces. You’ll work with teams across Borrowing and Data Platform to define what makes a Borrowing dataset “production-grade” and consumable by analytics, ML, decisioning, and regulatory teams.
  • Building feature stores and reusable analytical assets. Identifying cross-product signals (credit behaviour, repayment patterns, affordability, risk indicators) that should be modelled once, tested rigorously, and consumed by many. You’ll design the layer that turns raw product data into curated, versioned features that power models, dashboards, and decisions.
  • Scaling our analytics engineering infrastructure. Shaping the tooling, patterns, and developer experience that make an 80+ person credit and data organisation more productive. This means influencing our data architecture and ways of working across data and credit disciplines, while partnering with the central Data Platform team to ensure Borrowing’s needs are reflected in ingestion, streaming, and schema contract design.
  • Driving cross-product data consistency. As we expand across geographies and product lines, ensuring our data models are coherent and comparable. You’ll work with AE leads and domain experts to define shared conventions and abstractions that allow us to reason about Borrowing as a whole, not just product-by-product.
  • Being a senior technical partner for Borrowing’s data estate. Partnering with backend engineers on source data payload design, with product managers on measurement strategy, with credit teams on decisioning data, and with senior leadership on what’s possible and what’s next.
  • Leading through influence and leverage. You won’t manage people directly, but you’ll shape how an entire domain builds data. You’ll multiply the impact of AEs across Borrowing by setting the right patterns, unblocking architectural decisions, and raising the bar on what good looks like.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You think in systems, not just queries. You’ve designed data architectures that span multiple products or domains, and you know how to keep them coherent as they scale. You can take ambiguous problems and turn them into a clear technical direction, delivery sequence, and set of trade-offs.
  • You’ve built data products, not just data models. You understand the difference between a table that exists and a data asset that’s governed, documented, versioned, discoverable, and trusted. You’ve defined SLAs, contracts, interfaces, or ownership models for data consumers, and you’re excited to do this at scale.
  • You have deep fluency with analytics engineering systems and infrastructure. dbt at scale, BigQuery or equivalent, CI/CD for data, testing frameworks, and orchestration. You don’t just use these tools, you shape how teams use them. You’ve hit the scaling limits and know what to do about them.
  • You can design reusable feature layers. You’ve designed, contributed to, or have a clear vision for reusable feature layers that serve multiple consumers, including ML pipelines, dashboards, decisioning engines, and regulatory reporting. You understand the trade-offs between freshness, cost, granularity, correctness, and ease of use.
  • You’re comfortable at the platform boundary. You can have a productive conversation with a Data Platform engineer about ingestion patterns, streaming vs. batch trade-offs, schema evolution, and infrastructure costs. You don’t need to build the platform, but you need to shape what it delivers.
  • You connect technical choices to business outcomes. You care about whether data models, feature layers, and platform patterns actually improve decisions. You understand how product, credit, engineering, and operational teams use data, and you use that context to align people around better technical choices.
  • You lead through others. You create leverage not by writing more SQL, but by setting patterns, reviewing designs, unblocking teams, and raising the standard. You’re energised by making 30+ people more effective, not by being the single expert.
  • You communicate across altitudes. You can whiteboard a data architecture with a back-end engineer in the morning and present a strategic data roadmap to a director in the afternoon. You adapt your message to your audience without losing precision.
  • You care about credit products. You’re excited, or curious, about the complexity of lending, including risk, affordability, regulatory constraints, and multi-product dynamics. You see it as a fascinating data domain, not just a business vertical.

📍London/Cardiff/UK Remote | 💰£110,000-£150,000 + equity + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits  ✨

About the team⭐

Core Banking's mission is to make everyday money magical for everyone.

We're responsible for the products millions of customers rely on every day — from current accounts, joint accounts and accounts for kids and teens, through to money management, budgeting, and our paid subscriptions. These are some of Monzo's most loved experiences, and they're at the heart of how customers interact with us.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Senior User Research Manager to help shape the future of Personal Banking. This is an opportunity to lead research across one of Monzo's largest product areas, influence company strategy, and develop exceptional research leaders.

🔑You’ll play a key role by...

You'll be responsible for both people leadership and strategic research leadership. This includes:

  • Leading research across Core Banking while helping shape a coherent Personal Banking research strategy that spans multiple product areas.
  • Partnering closely with the Core Banking Leadership Team, Product Directors, Design leaders and senior stakeholders across Wealth, Payments, Borrowing and our European business.
  • Helping define and land parts of Monzo's global research operating model as we expand internationally, ensuring teams work effectively across both global and local markets.
  • Connecting customer insights across collectives, identifying themes, opportunities and gaps rather than viewing research through the lens of a single team.
  • Bringing together existing research, product data, market insights and quantitative evidence to help leadership make informed strategic decisions.
  • Managing managers and supporting approximately 6-8 direct and indirect reports while maintaining a consistently high bar for research quality.
  • Creating an environment where researchers can balance methodological rigour with the speed needed to build great products.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

You have experience with:

  • Leading senior researchers and/or research managers within a complex product organisation.
  • Shaping and influencing product strategy through research at both organisational and executive level.
  • Working across multiple product areas, bringing together disparate customer insights into a coherent strategic narrative.
  • Navigating complex stakeholder environments where different teams have competing priorities, metrics and timelines.
  • Partnering with Product, Design, Engineering and Data Science leaders to influence roadmaps and business strategy.
  • Combining qualitative research with quantitative signals, product data and market insights to develop strategic recommendations.
  • Building alignment across large organisations and landing new ways of working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coaching research leaders while maintaining a high quality bar across multiple teams.
  • Making thoughtful trade-offs between research depth, pace and business impact.

🙌 What’s in it for you

💰 £110,000 - £150,000 ➕ Incentive Awards tied to your performance.

✈️ We’ll help you relocate to the UK.

✅ We can sponsor your visa.

📍This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)

⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

📚 £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

🏡 We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

➕ Plus lots more! Read our full list of benefits.

🌈 The application journey has 3 key steps

Recruiter call (30 minutes): A conversation with one of our recruiters to learn more about your background, motivations, and what you're looking for next, while giving you the opportunity to learn more about Monzo and the role.
Leadership & Ways of Working (45 minutes): We'll explore your leadership experience, approach to research strategy, and how you raise the research quality bar.
Final loop (Total 1hr 30 - 2 hours): Two interviews covering Managing Teams & People and Leadership & Impact, where we'll discuss your approach to developing research leaders, building high-performing teams, influencing strategy, and driving organisational impact.

This process should take around 3-4 weeks - your schedule is really important to us, so we promise to be as flexible as possible!

We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.

Our main tech hub is in London, but our engineers live everywhere in the UK— from Brighton to the Western Isles.

We value meeting in person but we don't have a mandated requirement on office attendance, even if you're nearby. We believe you'll do your best work if you are where you want to be. If you live outside of London and we ask you to come into the office, Monzo will support you with the costs. ✨

Our offices are naturally social, especially Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, which happen to line up with our twice-weekly Monzo lunches & treat Thursdays 🍽️. Teams also schedule time together often for work and play – in or around the office, or online.

Set up a work schedule that delivers impact and fits your life:

At Monzo, we value connections, flexibility, and wellbeing. We keep our meetings during core hours to stay connected and believe in maintaining work/life balance.

You’ll be empowered to manage your work in a way that suits you and your team, giving you the freedom for children drop-offs and pick-ups, walking your dog or adventurous cat, avoiding peak commuting times or gym slots, appointments, or supporting your family in an emergency. 🕒✨

Work the way that works for you with Monzo! 💼

📍London or UK Remote | 💰 Senior Engineer (L50) £105,000 - £135,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits | Technology - Engineering

About our Engineering Teams:

We have around 650 engineers across Monzo who design and build our in-house banking platform. We have big ambitions for the future, and technology plays a big role in creating a bank our customers want, so engineers at Monzo collaborate across disciplines to solve interesting challenges throughout the company.

These range from the products our customers use everyday to underlying infrastructure, security, payments and finance, customer operations, financial crime, and data, to name just a few areas. As a bank, there is scope for impact across a huge number of opportunities.

We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!

Your day-to-day

This role is all about collaborating with your team to make a difference to your customers. As a backend engineer you’ll work in a squad alongside other disciplines like product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile engineers, web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, writers and more!

Together you'll build and support a particular part of Monzo. Our squads belong to our wider collectives (a word we use to describe self-governing business units of ~100 people). They are: Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security & Expansion. All of our collectives are doing innovative work, many of which have machine learning and AI at the forefront- from fighting financial crime to building smarter financial tools - and you may have the opportunity to join a collective that gives you direct exposure to this exciting space.

They’re all looking for additional Backend Engineers right now, we do a standard interview process across all our collectives and at the end we will find the best match for you based on your skills, experience, preferences and aligning with the business need!

Our backend engineers have a variety of different backgrounds. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you. We do not ask for formal qualifications or degree requirements for any of our engineering roles.

How we work 💻

Our main tech hub is in London, but our engineers live everywhere in the UK— from Brighton to the Western Isles. We value meeting in person but we don't have a mandated requirement on office attendance, even if you're nearby. We believe you'll do your best work if you are where you want to be. If you live outside of London and we ask you to come into the office, Monzo will support you with the costs ✨

Our offices are naturally social, especially Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, which happen to line up with our twice-weekly Monzo lunches & treat Thursdays 🍽️

Teams also schedule time together often for work and play – in or around the office, or online.

Set up a work schedule that delivers impact and fits your life:

At Monzo, we value connections, flexibility, and wellbeing. We keep our meetings during core hours to stay connected and believe in maintaining work/life balance.

You’ll be empowered to manage your work in a way that suits you and your team, giving you the freedom for children drop-offs and pick-ups, walking your dog or adventurous cat, avoiding peak commuting times or gym slots, appointments, or supporting your family in an emergency 🕣✨

If you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.

Work the way that works for you with Monzo! 💼

You should apply if:

  • you have strong experience working on the backend of a technology product
  • you want to be involved in building a product that you (and the people you know) use every day
  • you have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes and you want to make data-informed decisions
  • you’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
  • you’re interested in distributed systems and writing resilient software
  • you have some experience with strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala etc.).
  • you think you’d enjoy the kind of work we’re doing

We're on the look out for L50 Engineers at the moment, you can read more in our Engineering Progression Framework - we will interview you across the whole frame work, so if you are not sure what level you are aiming for please chat to your recruiters!

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything thats listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll be working on:

We hire very technically agnostic so whilst we use the below technologies we do not expect prior knowledge, you will be fully supported in our organised onboarding to get up to speed in the below:

  • Go to write our application code (there’s an excellent interactive Go tutorial here)
  • Cassandra for most persistent data storage
  • Kafka for our asynchronous message queue
  • Kubernetes and Docker to schedule and run our services
