London OR Cardiff OR Remote (UK) | :moneybag: £63,800 - £80,650 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + benefits :sparkles:

:star:Our Prudential Risk team
Our Prudential Risk team is expanding, and we are searching for a Manager to join our 2nd Line Treasury Risk Oversight team. You will be part of the broader 2LoD Risk and Compliance department here at Monzo.

This represents a fantastic chance to contribute to a scaling bank with high aspirations. By joining the Treasury Risk Oversight team, you will champion our value to "grow Monzo safely." Your focus will involve collaborating with 1st Line Treasury Markets to provide expert second-line oversight of their increasing investment activities and execution controls.

In this role, you will partner with Treasury Markets as they oversee a £9.5bn portfolio that is set to scale and diversify across various securities and financial instruments. You will be instrumental in providing robust monitoring and challenge regarding new investment initiatives and current portfolio performance. Conducting independent credit reviews, resilience testing, and collateral oversight are central to this position.

We are looking for someone with a solid grasp of the asset classes typically found in a retail bank's treasury holdings, such as Sovereign debt, Covered Bonds, ABS, and CLOs. Familiarity with FX market products, repurchase agreements, and interest rate hedging tools is also highly valued.

A successful applicant will bring hands-on experience using Bloomberg for credit and market analysis, alongside the ability to leverage rating agency data and technical stress testing to build comprehensive credit views.

You will also have the space to expand your expertise into Treasury ALM as part of our holistic approach to Treasury Risk Oversight.

:key:You’ll play a key role by…
  • Overseeing our growing Treasury investment portfolio and analysing wholesale credit risk via the regular monitoring of market and liquidity risks, alongside collateral performance monitoring.
  • Writing independent credit assessments for proposed counterparties and securitisations.
  • Conducting independent stress testing of ABS and CLO structures to evaluate portfolio resilience.
  • Representing 2LoD in investor roadshows with a view to better understanding collateral, structuring, and the inherent risks of securities.
  • Monitoring market trends and themes in wholesale credit markets and the wider macroeconomic environment, and raising emerging risks to the Treasury Markets team (a Bloomberg Professional license will be provided to assist you with this analysis).
  • Acting as a key contributor to the Wholesale Credit Risk Forum, where you will present a 2LoD view of the risk profile of the investment portfolio.
  • Reviewing monthly information submitted to ALCo packs and actively contributing 2LoD opinions on specific approval topics.
  • Playing a core role in the 2LoD oversight of new proposals put forward by Treasury Markets within a rapidly growing and ambitious environment.
  • Ensuring appropriate controls exist and are consistently monitored across all Treasury Dealing activities.
  • Developing an understanding of Treasury ALM (Asset Liability Management) in order to understand its strategic links to Treasury Markets activities, while providing support to ALM risk oversight.
:star-struck: We’d love to hear from you if…
  • You have relevant experience gained within a bank, a consultancy, a credit rating agency, or a regulatory body.
  • You have a genuine desire to learn and grow, and you are excited about building enhanced 2LoD oversight within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • You have a solid understanding of key asset classes that make up a Retail Bank’s treasury investment portfolio, such as Sovereign and Supranational debt, Covered Bonds, Asset Backed Securities (ABS), and Collateralised Loan Obligations (CLO).
  • You understand securitisations, including their structural features, underwriting processes, and standards, as well as how to stress test them
  • You can critically evaluate risk data, with familiarity handling investment prospectuses from security issuers and the ability to review credit rating agency reports to pick out, understand, and challenge key risks.
  • You possess knowledge of key market products, specifically those used across FX markets, repos, and interest rate derivatives.
  • You bring hands-on system and technical experience, which may include previous use of Bloomberg for pricing, liquidity, and credit analysis, exposure to a Trade Management System, and a working use of Python/SQL with the ability to develop reporting dashboards.
  • You are a good relationship builder who can develop productive working connections with 1LoD stakeholders across all levels of the business, whilst maintaining the ability to provide robust, informed challenge and review to ensure our safe growth
  • You understand prudential regulatory requirements, with a specific focus on the topics of liquidity and capital and how they impact a bank’s investment portfolio.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. 🌟 About the team:

Our Global DPO Office

As Monzo grows into new countries, new products and innovative technologies, including AI, we work to find a careful balance between meeting our regulatory obligations and supporting innovative, customer-centric solutions that help make money work for everyone.

At Monzo, we use the three lines of defence approach to manage risk. The Global DPO Office sits in the second line Compliance function, and this role reports directly to the Data Protection Officer.

The Global DPO Office supports the DPO in meeting their responsibilities and provides independent oversight of data protection compliance across Monzo. We work closely with the first-line Data Protection team, Legal, and teams across the bank to help Monzo understand, evidence and strengthen its data protection compliance.

We’re building the foundations for a global DPO Office that can scale, bringing more consistency to how we work across the UK and Europe through global processes, clearer governance and a group risk framework.

About the role...

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Manager who can lead important work across the DPO Office and the wider bank. You’ll turn broad goals into clear plans, work through complex and ambiguous problems, and deliver improvements with pace, structure and good judgement.

This is a senior individual contributor role in a small and mighty team with high standards and a practical, proportionate way of working. You’ll provide advice, oversight and challenge, build trusted relationships across Monzo, and help improve how the Global DPO Office operates as we scale.

It’s also a great opportunity for someone who wants to deepen their existing experience across DPO-level responsibilities. You’ll deputise for the DPO from time to time, while helping build the processes, governance and ways of working needed for a global DPO Office.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Working as part of the Global DPO Office to provide practical, proportionate data protection advice, oversight and challenge across the bank.
  • Reviewing DPIAs, providing DPO opinions, assessing data breaches, and supporting clear, well-documented decisions on regulatory reporting.
  • Supporting our relationship with regulators, improving the processes behind regulatory engagement and complaints, and providing oversight of data subject rights and contact point processes.
  • Leading projects within the Global DPO Office at pace, and representing the team in projects led by others where data protection compliance is affected.
  • Owning specific goals and workstreams within the DPO Office maturity plan, working with the DPO and wider team to build practical, scalable and efficient processes, governance and ways of working.
  • Proactively finding opportunities to improve how we work, including through better use of data, automation, AI and other tools that help us move faster without lowering standards.
  • Deputising for the DPO from time to time, giving you the opportunity to build experience across DPO-level responsibilities.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’re a practical, experienced data protection professional with strong knowledge of UK GDPR, PECR and ICO expectations, backed by a relevant qualification such as an IAPP qualification or equivalent.
  • You’re curious about AI and innovative technology, and are already using or exploring how to use AI practically in your work.
  • You’re a self-starter who enjoys solving complex and ambiguous problems, using your initiative to work methodically, find clear and proportionate solutions, and deliver tangible improvements.
  • You have hands-on experience across core DPO work, including DPIAs, data breaches, privacy notices, governance, reporting and regulator-facing activity.
  • You understand what good second-line oversight looks like, and can build trusted relationships while still providing effective advice, oversight and challenge.
  • You’re a thoughtful communicator who enjoys working with teams across the company, sharing knowledge, influencing well and working through problems early, with solutions in mind.

The Interview Process:

Our interview process involves three main stages:

  1. Recruiter Call (30mins)
  2. Initial Call (30 mins)
  3. Final stage - a take-home task, with successful candidates progressing to a role-specific interview and a behavioural interview

Our average process takes around 4-6 weeks but we will always work around your availability.

🙌 What’s in it for you

  • 💰 £85,000 - £105,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance benefits.

  • 📍 This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).

  • ⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

  • 📚 £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

  • 🏡 We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given MacBooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.

📍London or Remote (UK)  | 💰 £79,000 - £93,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits

🌟 About the team:

Our Borrowing (lending) business is growing rapidly across both existing products and with the planned launch of new initiatives. As our lending portfolio grows, our second line of defence Credit Model Validation team is growing with it - and we’re looking for a Credit Model Validation Manager to join us!

Our Credit Model Validation team is crucial in providing independent oversight and challenge to our model development teams in the first line of defence to help Monzo grow safely and ensure that the models we use deliver good outcomes for our customers. We’re looking for someone (maybe you?!) to join our validation squad and provide expert independent validation and oversight across our suite of credit models, covering critical business disciplines such as credit strategy and impairment.

You’ll have a particular focus on models used for customer-level decisioning and defining our credit strategies - such as underwriting scorecards, origination PD models and Net Present Value (NPV) / unit economics models - across all our lending products.

Strong data and analytical skills are a must, as is deep expertise in credit risk modelling. You’ll have hands-on experience in either model validation or model development within a financial services environment, including practical experience using Python to develop, validate or analyse machine learning and statistical models. . In-depth knowledge of credit decisioning models would be a strong plus.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Leading hands-on independent validation of models used for credit decisioning within our Borrowing strategies - covering a range of machine learning, decision science and NPV models. You will be ensuring that models are fit for purpose, appropriately governed, explainable and performing as expected
  • Supporting oversight and validation of broader credit risk models, including IFRS9, stress testing and economic response models
  • Developing deep understanding of Monzo’s credit models, and using this to provide impactful input and challenge to model developers to improve our modelling capabilities
  • Reviewing ongoing model performance monitoring to ensure our lending models perform within our risk thresholds, and providing support to our first line of defence teams when action is required
  • Performing statistical analyses to independently assess model performance, including developing challenger models where appropriate to test model assumptions and strengthen validation conclusions
  • Improving our Model Risk Framework, including overseeing our policies, standards and procedures to help embed best practice across the business. This means making sure we follow up-to-date regulatory guidelines, and adapt our processes to make sure they remain relevant as modelling techniques evolve
  • Writing clear and impactful model validation reports, and presenting the findings and actions in relevant committees
  • Partnering with colleagues in the first line of defence credit strategy and modelling teams - and wider risk teams across Monzo - to support the embedding of our model risk framework and establishing consistent validation standards across the organisation
  • Embracing new and innovative technology, including leading the adoption of AI tools to enhance our model validation approach

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • Have a strong background and practical experience in credit model development and/or validation - in particular with exposure to machine learning or statistical models used in credit decisioning, such as decision science scorecards, origination / underwriting PD models, and NPV / unit economics modelling
  • Are data driven, with strong analytical skills and deep understanding of statistical techniques for credit and model risk. Being able to get hands on with data is critical - so strong SQL and Python skills are essential, and experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Looker or similar is a plus!
  • Understand how models are used in real-time decisioning and lending strategies, and how to balance commercial and risk outcomes
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills, and are able to articulate problems and solutions using clear and simple language. This is particularly important for breaking down complex issues and priorities to non-experts
  • Have a track record of building and maintaining trusting relationships with stakeholders at all levels, and can provide effective and respectful challenge
  • Are impact-driven, and proactive in identifying issues and opportunities to improve outcomes for both our customers and our business
  • Are passionate about technology, and what we’re doing here at Monzo excites you!

🙌 What’s in it for you

    • 💰 £79,000 - £93,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance benefits.

    • 📍 This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).

Our Operations Machine Learning team ⭐

We’re building the machine learning and optimisation systems that help Monzo provide fast, efficient and resilient customer support at scale.

You’ll lead Machine Learning for our Workforce Management vertical: the organisation that makes sure Monzo has the right human support supply to meet customer demand. The team works on demand forecasting, real-time supply <> demand matching, problem routing and escalation, and predictive models that help us understand how long work will take, what might become late, and where the next best human support should be assigned.

This is a great role for someone who is still close to technical work. You might be a Tech Lead, Team Lead, Senior Machine Learning Scientist or Senior Machine Learning Engineer who has recently been building models and systems yourself, and is excited to grow into a broader leadership role.

Not everything here is about LLMs. You’ll work on rigorous ML, forecasting, optimisation and operations research problems where quantitative thinking, pragmatic delivery and strong product judgement really matter.

You’ll lead a growing team of Machine Learning Scientists, embedded in product squads working alongside data scientists, backend, mobile and web engineers, product managers, user researchers, designers and operations specialists.

🔑You’ll play a key role by…

  • Shaping the ML strategy for Workforce Management, helping us decide where ML, forecasting and optimisation can have the biggest impact for customers and human agents.
  • Leading the design, build and delivery of production ML systems across forecasting, routing, assignment, escalation and time-to-completion prediction.
  • Staying close to the technical details: helping the team frame problems well, choose the right modelling approach, define robust validation, review trade-offs and ship safely.
  • Working with Product, Engineering, Data and Operations leaders to turn ambiguous operational problems into pragmatic, iterative ML systems that improve real customer outcomes.
  • Coaching and developing Machine Learning Scientists through regular 1:1s, feedback and technical guidance.
  • Creating healthy ways of working for the team: clear priorities, strong technical standards, good documentation, sensible monitoring, and space for people to do their best work.
  • Contributing to the wider Machine Learning discipline at Monzo, helping us scale how we build, ship and operate ML systems in production.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’ve recently worked as a hands-on Machine Learning practitioner, for example as a Senior IC, Tech Lead, Team Lead or ML manager.
  • You have strong foundations in ML, statistics, forecasting, optimisation or operations research, and enjoy applying them to messy real-world problems.
  • You’ve built, shipped or owned ML systems in production, and understand what it takes to make models useful, reliable, monitored and safe.
  • You can move between technical detail and business context, explaining complex ML ideas clearly to technical and non-technical people.
  • Coaching others is something you enjoy and take seriously. You may already have people management experience, but we’re also open to people taking their first formal step into management.
  • Ambiguous problem spaces energise you. The right answer might involve a model, an algorithm, a product change, an operational process, or a combination of all four.
  • Customer outcomes matter to you, and you want to build systems that help people get answers to their problems quickly and efficiently.
  • You’re adaptable, curious and excited by quantitative problems.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

📍London | 💰£53,100 - £70,000 + Benefits ✨ | 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract

⭐ Our Product Operations team

We’re looking for a transformation-minded Product Operations Manager who is obsessed with efficiency. You’ll sit within Partnerships, working at the intersection of Finance, Tech, and Ops Change.

You will be the "Architect of Automation" for Partner Ops within Core Banking. You’ll spend the first phase of your contract mastering the manual workflows to deeply understand the requirements, and the remainder of the contract replacing those workflows with scalable, AI-integrated systems. You are someone who understands exactly what is happening "under the hood." You know how data moves between systems, how APIs talk to each other, and how to maintain data integrity across platforms. You’ll use this knowledge to help increase overall efficiency and cut out unnecessary manual processes.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Process Auditing & Mapping: Deep-diving into "the way we do things now" (invoicing, reconciliations, and reporting) to identify patterns ripe for AI-led automation.
  • Building the Automation Layer: Use AI tools, LLMs, and workflow automation to transition manual trackers into self-healing, automated systems.
  • Interim Operational Execution: While you build the future, you'll ensure the present stays on track—managing invoicing, reconciliations, and governance logs with high precision.
  • Stakeholder Engineering: Working with Product and Tech teams to ensure your automated solutions integrate with our core banking systems.
  • Governance 2.0: Moving our risk and compliance tracking from manual spreadsheets to automated "always-on" dashboards.
  • Documentation as Code: Creating the SOPs for the new automated world, ensuring that "how it works" is as clear as "what it does."

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You are an "Automation First" thinker: When you see a repetitive task, your first instinct is to write a script, use a prompt, or build a flow.
  • You have high "Ops IQ": You understand how money moves, how reconciliations work, and why governance matters.
  • You are AI-Curious: You’re already building and implementing LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude) or automation tools (Zapier, Make, etc.) to solve everyday problems.
  • You have an eye for detail: You can spot a $0.01 reconciliation error in a sea of data.
  • You’re a builder, not just a maintainer: You aren't satisfied with "this is how it's always been done."

About Machine Learning Platform Engineering at Monzo

The Machine Learning Platform team builds the systems that help teams across Monzo train, evaluate, deploy and serve ML models and AI features safely and reliably.

We work on backend services, Python libraries, model lifecycle tooling, evaluation workflows and low-latency serving systems. Our users are internal ML engineers, scientists and product teams building with ML and LLMs.

The work matters because machine learning powers many important decisions and experiences at Monzo, from fraud checks and credit decisions to customer operations. We help teams move faster while keeping production systems reliable, observable and safe.

This is a platform engineering role in the ML and AI space. We’re looking for someone who combines strong software engineering foundations with ML or AI context, and who enjoys building tools and systems for other engineers.

🧰 What you'll be working with...

  • Go for backend services, platform APIs, and production systems
  • Python for libraries, workflows, and tooling used by our ML engineers and scientists
  • Feature platforms and data workflows using Chronon, Feast, and DataHub
  • Model training pipelines and experiment tracking using Vertex AI and Comet
  • AI observability, evaluation, and tracing using Langfuse and Bifrost
  • AWS for real-time serving and online inference, GCP for batch compute and our BigQuery data warehouse.

(Please note direct experience with all of them is helpful but not required and our interview process can be completed in any language).

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if...

  • You combine solid backend engineering with real ML or AI platform experience (ML pipelines, feature stores, model serving, experiment tracking or LLM tooling)
  • You’ve designed and operated distributed systems that handle scale, concurrency and failure
  • You think like a platform engineer, focused on developer experience and removing friction for internal teams
  • You’re happy working across both Go and Python
  • You enjoy ambiguity and want to shape a platform as it grows
  • You have experience with strongly typed languages, writing and working on backend software
  • You’re curious about how systems behave in production, including reliability, latency, quality, safety and operational risk

🤔 This might NOT be the right fit if...

  • Your background is predominantly SRE, DevOps or infrastructure operations
  • You’re focused on data science or modelling
  • You’ve shipped AI product features but haven’t worked on the platform side (serving, evaluation, model lifecycle)

Levels

We're on the look out for Engineers of varying levels at the moment. You can read more in our Engineering Progression Framework - we will interview you across the entire framework, so if you are not sure what level you are aiming for please chat to your recruiters!

About our Engineering Teams

We have around 600 engineers out of roughly 5,000 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.

We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do.

If you prefer to work part-time, we'll make this happen whenever we can - whether this is to help you meet other commitments or strike a great work-life balance.

📍London or Remote (UK) | 💰 Base salary £170k - £225k + Equity + Benefits

Engineering at Monzo

Monzo has successfully launched in Ireland and is expanding across Europe. We're now entering the next phase of our journey: building and scaling a multi-market European bank.

The EU Engineering organisation sits at the centre of that ambition. We are responsible for helping Monzo launch, grow and operate across Europe, navigating everything from product-market fit and customer growth to regulatory requirements, localisation and operational scale.

Unlike most engineering organisations at Monzo, EU does not own a single product area. We work horizontally across the company, partnering with teams across Payments, Core Banking, Growth, Wealth, Customer Operations, Fincrime, Platform and many others to bring Monzo's products to new markets and deliver great customer experiences locally.

As an Engineering Director, you'll lead a distributed engineering organisation across the UK, Spain and remote locations. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Operations, Risk, Compliance and executive stakeholders to solve complex problems that span organisational boundaries.

Success in this role comes through influence, relationships and organisational leadership as much as execution. You'll need to build alignment across a wide range of teams, create clarity in ambiguity, and help Monzo discover what works in new markets while establishing the foundations that allow us to scale across Europe.

This is one of Monzo's most strategically important areas and a unique opportunity to help build a European bank from the ground up.

What you’ll work on

  • Lead a distributed engineering organisation spanning multiple squads, markets and countries.
  • Build and develop Engineering Managers, Senior Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Data, Research, Operations, Risk and Compliance leaders to define and execute Monzo's European strategy.
  • Drive alignment and execution across numerous collectives to ensure Europe receives the capabilities it needs to succeed.
  • Shape how Monzo approaches market expansion, localisation, regulatory requirements and multi-market product development.
  • Influence priorities and outcomes across teams that do not directly report to you.
  • Create clarity and momentum in highly ambiguous problem spaces where ownership and solutions are not always obvious.
  • Design and evolve organisational structures, operating models and planning processes that allow Monzo to scale effectively across Europe.
  • Help identify and validate product-market fit in new markets while balancing short-term delivery and long-term strategic investments.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to shape the future of Monzo's European business.

You should apply if

  • You have experience leading large engineering organisations through other leaders, including Engineering Managers, Senior Engineering Managers and senior individual contributors.
  • You have successfully operated in highly complex organisations where outcomes depend on collaboration across many teams and functions.
  • You are exceptional at building relationships and influencing without direct authority.
  • You can navigate ambiguity and create clarity where goals, ownership or priorities are not yet fully defined.
  • You have experience scaling organisations through periods of rapid growth, organisational change or market expansion.
  • You enjoy solving organisational and business problems, not just technical ones. You can balance strategy and execution, translating ambitious goals into tangible outcomes.
  • You are comfortable making decisions in environments where there is rarely a perfect answer.
  • You have a strong track record of building high-performing leadership teams and developing future leaders.
  • You are energised by the challenge of building something new and helping shape the future of Monzo's international expansion.

The interview process

After an informal ~30 min recruiter call our interview process involves 2 main stages:

  1. Initial Call (1 hour) You'll meet with one of our senior engineering leaders. They'll ask you about your previous experience, in particular people leadership, product delivery and technical leadership. They’ll ask example based questions (‘Tell me about a time when…’)
  2. Loop Stage - This is one stage with 4 interviews (totalling 4 hours) split between a collaboration with one of our engineers on a technical exercise, as well as execution and leadership interviews.

At all stages we’ll create space for you to ask as many questions as you have, you’re interviewing us as well!

Our average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability. You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you do have any specific questions ahead of this please contact us on tech-hiring@monzo.com. Please also use that email to let us know if there's anything we can do to make your application process easier for you, because of disability, neurodiversity or any other personal reason.

About the role

Borrowing is one of Monzo’s most important growth engines. We’ve built strong scale in the UK, and the next phase is even more ambitious: grow in the UK, expand into new customer segments, and build the underwriting capability needed to scale into Europe.

We’re looking for a senior ML leader to help shape that next phase.

You’ll lead a high-calibre team of ML scientists and help define Borrowing’s ML roadmap across UK growth, new customer segments, and EU expansion. You’ll work across underwriting, pricing, limits, and lifecycle decisioning — improving today’s models while helping build the next generation of capability for Monzo.

This role combines near-term commercial impact with long-term strategic advantage:

  • improving performance across our range of products
  • unlocking new data and faster model development
  • helping Monzo build underwriting that scales into new markets
  • shaping how advanced ML and AI can create real value in Borrowing

You’ll partner closely with leaders across Credit Strategy, Product, Engineering, Model Validation, Data, and Platform, and influence decisions that shape both business performance and the long-term architecture of credit decisioning at Monzo.

What you’ll own

  • Borrowing ML roadmaps across UK optimisation, new customer segments, and EU expansion
  • Faster model improvement through new data and feature engineering
  • How Monzo uses Open Banking, transaction intelligence, and external data in credit decisioning
  • More portable underwriting capabilities across products, customer segments, and markets
  • Hiring, leading, and developing a high-performing ML team
  • Raising the bar on model quality, governance, tooling, and speed of iteration

What you’ll be working on

Examples of the challenges you could help lead:

  • Improving underwriting models across Loans, Flex, and Overdrafts
  • Expand the data we use in our models
  • Building better feature engineering and model shipping capability
  • Improving transaction intelligence for credit use cases
  • Developing underwriting capabilities for new customer segments and EU markets
  • Shaping Monzo’s approach to advanced ML and AI

Our technology stack

We rely heavily on the following tools and technologies, although we do not expect applicants to have prior experience of all of them:

  • Google Cloud Platform
  • BigQuery SQL and dbt
  • Python and the PyData stack
  • Google AI Platform
  • AWS
  • Python for ML services
  • Go for backend services
  • AI tooling for productivity
  • Google Workspace including Gemini
  • ChatGPT Enterprise
  • Claude Code

You should apply if

  • You want to shape the next phase of credit decisioning at one of Europe’s most ambitious fintechs
  • You enjoy combining strategic leadership with strong technical judgment
  • You’re excited by the intersection of underwriting, data, product, and platform capability
  • You like building teams as much as building models
  • You care about real customer and business impact

You must have

Credit and machine learning

  • Strong knowledge of machine learning, statistics, and decisioning systems
  • Deep experience in credit risk and lending
  • Experience building, deploying, and iterating credit models in production
  • Experience pushing the innovation frontiers of the credit industry

Leadership and delivery

  • Experience leading and developing senior ML scientists
  • Strong cross-functional leadership with Product, Credit Strategy, Engineering, and Validation
  • Track record of turning strategy into practical delivery in a regulated environment

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience across more than one market
  • Experience with advanced ML methods and AI on structured financial data

The interview process

  • 30 min Recruiter Call
  • 45 min Initial Call
  • 60 min ML technical interview
  • 60 min People Leadership interview
  • 60 min Product / Credit ML interview

All interviews will be conducted through Google Meet.

Staff Analytics Engineer - Borrowing

📍London/Cardiff/UK Remote | 💰 £121,600-164,600 + stock and benefits | Hear from the team

⭐ Our Borrowing Analytics Engineering Team

Our mission in Borrowing is to help people achieve their financial goals through better borrowing. Our customers borrow money to achieve something in their lives — whether that’s making a big life event affordable, buying something they need now without affecting their monthly budget, or getting by until payday. We’re shaping this mission by building products our customers love, while safely scaling some of Monzo’s biggest revenue lines.

Borrowing is one of Monzo’s most complex and fastest-growing domains. We operate 12+ products across multiple geographies, underpinned by 1,700+ data models and an analytics engineering team that’s scaling to match. We’re in the middle of a major data architecture transformation, expanding into new markets, and building the next generation of data infrastructure to support it all.

We’re looking for a Staff Analytics Engineer to help shape how Borrowing builds and uses data at scale. Reporting to the Borrowing Data Director, you’ll work across product, credit, engineering, Data Platform, and analytics engineering teams to turn complex technical problems into clearer systems, stronger data products, and better business decisions.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Architecting Borrowing’s data layer at scale. Partnering across Analytics Engineering, Product, Engineering, Credit, and Data Platform to shape how 1,700+ models across 12+ products are structured, connected, and evolved. You’ll set shared patterns that help teams build trusted, consistent, and scalable data products across Borrowing.
  • Designing and governing data products. Moving us beyond ad-hoc tables toward well-defined, contractual data assets with clear ownership, SLAs, documentation, and interfaces. You’ll work with teams across Borrowing and Data Platform to define what makes a Borrowing dataset “production-grade” and consumable by analytics, ML, decisioning, and regulatory teams.
  • Building feature stores and reusable analytical assets. Identifying cross-product signals (credit behaviour, repayment patterns, affordability, risk indicators) that should be modelled once, tested rigorously, and consumed by many. You’ll design the layer that turns raw product data into curated, versioned features that power models, dashboards, and decisions.
  • Scaling our analytics engineering infrastructure. Shaping the tooling, patterns, and developer experience that make an 80+ person credit and data organisation more productive. This means influencing our data architecture and ways of working across data and credit disciplines, while partnering with the central Data Platform team to ensure Borrowing’s needs are reflected in ingestion, streaming, and schema contract design.
  • Driving cross-product data consistency. As we expand across geographies and product lines, ensuring our data models are coherent and comparable. You’ll work with AE leads and domain experts to define shared conventions and abstractions that allow us to reason about Borrowing as a whole, not just product-by-product.
  • Being a senior technical partner for Borrowing’s data estate. Partnering with backend engineers on source data payload design, with product managers on measurement strategy, with credit teams on decisioning data, and with senior leadership on what’s possible and what’s next.
  • Leading through influence and leverage. You won’t manage people directly, but you’ll shape how an entire domain builds data. You’ll multiply the impact of AEs across Borrowing by setting the right patterns, unblocking architectural decisions, and raising the bar on what good looks like.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You think in systems, not just queries. You’ve designed data architectures that span multiple products or domains, and you know how to keep them coherent as they scale. You can take ambiguous problems and turn them into a clear technical direction, delivery sequence, and set of trade-offs.
  • You’ve built data products, not just data models. You understand the difference between a table that exists and a data asset that’s governed, documented, versioned, discoverable, and trusted. You’ve defined SLAs, contracts, interfaces, or ownership models for data consumers, and you’re excited to do this at scale.
  • You have deep fluency with analytics engineering systems and infrastructure. dbt at scale, BigQuery or equivalent, CI/CD for data, testing frameworks, and orchestration. You don’t just use these tools, you shape how teams use them. You’ve hit the scaling limits and know what to do about them.
  • You can design reusable feature layers. You’ve designed, contributed to, or have a clear vision for reusable feature layers that serve multiple consumers, including ML pipelines, dashboards, decisioning engines, and regulatory reporting. You understand the trade-offs between freshness, cost, granularity, correctness, and ease of use.
  • You’re comfortable at the platform boundary. You can have a productive conversation with a Data Platform engineer about ingestion patterns, streaming vs. batch trade-offs, schema evolution, and infrastructure costs. You don’t need to build the platform, but you need to shape what it delivers.
  • You connect technical choices to business outcomes. You care about whether data models, feature layers, and platform patterns actually improve decisions. You understand how product, credit, engineering, and operational teams use data, and you use that context to align people around better technical choices.
  • You lead through others. You create leverage not by writing more SQL, but by setting patterns, reviewing designs, unblocking teams, and raising the standard. You’re energised by making 30+ people more effective, not by being the single expert.
  • You communicate across altitudes. You can whiteboard a data architecture with a back-end engineer in the morning and present a strategic data roadmap to a director in the afternoon. You adapt your message to your audience without losing precision.
  • You care about credit products. You’re excited, or curious, about the complexity of lending, including risk, affordability, regulatory constraints, and multi-product dynamics. You see it as a fascinating data domain, not just a business vertical.

London/Cardiff/UK Remote | 💰 £150,000–£180,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits

Our Workforce Systems team ⭐

Customer Operations at Monzo is at the heart of delivering fast, safe and high-quality support to millions of customers.

As Monzo grows, the way we run operations is evolving. We’re supporting more customers, more products, more markets, more regulatory expectations, and a growing mix of human and AI-powered service. This creates one of the most interesting operational systems challenges at Monzo: how do we forecast demand, plan supply, schedule work, route tasks, understand live performance, and make capacity decisions across an increasingly complex global operation?

Workforce systems are central to this. They help determine how Monzo matches customer demand with human and AI capacity, how we protect service levels, how we make cost and capacity trade-offs, and how we keep support fast, safe and reliable as we scale.

The next phase is about building the workforce systems that allow Monzo to keep scaling Customer Operations as we expand our products, global footprint and AI capabilities - supporting our mission to make money work for everyone.

This role will lead that next phase.

You’ll sit at the intersection of Data, Product, Engineering, Operations and Finance. You’ll shape the technology, data products and operating systems that help Monzo understand demand, plan capacity, schedule work, measure execution, assign tasks, and respond to live operational change. You’ll work on capabilities that make workforce decisions more accurate, more automated, more explainable and more resilient as the business grows.

You’ll also build and develop the team and capability needed for this next stage - raising the bar for forecasting, measurement, operational data products and system-led workforce decisioning.

You don’t need to come from a traditional Workforce Management or contact centre background. We’re looking for a senior data-product systems leader who can reason from first principles, build scalable operational systems, and lead through ambiguity across multiple disciplines.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Leading the strategy for Monzo’s Workforce Systems, across forecasting, capacity planning, scheduling, work status, task assignment and service performance.
  • Building and developing a high-performing team across forecasting, measurement, analytics and operational data products, while helping shape the wider workforce systems roadmap with Product and Engineering.
  • Building production-grade data products that support live operational decisions - including forecasting, schedule fit, work-status signals, capacity impact, throughput and service-performance measures.
  • Improving how we forecast and plan demand, including forecast accuracy, bias, uncertainty, feedback loops, and the impact of new products, new markets, AI agents and changing customer behaviour.
  • Connecting forecasts, schedules and live execution, so teams can understand how operational reality is changing and take action at the right time.
  • Developing stronger system controls for capacity decisions, including forecast releases, demand changes, operational process changes, tooling launches and staffing decisions.
  • Evolving how Forecast Change Requests and capacity-impacting changes work, moving toward system-supported decisioning, impact assessment and guardrails.
  • Partnering deeply with Product and Engineering to define and build the workflows, metrics, controls and technical capabilities that help teams make better workforce decisions.
  • Helping evolve task assignment and routing, so work is allocated based on schedule, skill, capacity, prioritisation logic and live service needs.
  • Raising the analytical and statistical bar across workforce planning and service performance, helping teams reason clearly about forecast error, AHT, workload, volatility, throughput, schedule adherence and customer outcomes.
  • Transforming the operating model for the next stage of scale, helping teams move toward exception-based operation, feedback loops and system-led control.
  • Working with senior leaders across Ops, Data, Product, Engineering and Finance to make trade-offs between service quality, cost, capacity, risk and speed of execution.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’ve led data products, forecasting systems, marketplace systems, logistics systems, operational platforms or live decision systems where data and models directly influenced how a business operated.
  • You have strong first-principles systems thinking and can break complex operational problems into clear components, feedback loops, controls and product opportunities.
  • You have strong statistical judgement - you understand forecasting, uncertainty, bias, volatility, measurement quality, and when a metric is ready to support an operational decision.
  • You’re product-minded: you think about users, workflows, incentives, adoption, decision points, and how tooling can make good decisions easier.
  • You’re credible with Engineering and can partner on architecture, reliability, system design, productisation, sequencing and trade-offs.
  • You’ve built, led or scaled teams working across data, product, engineering or operational systems.
  • You’re comfortable working in live operational environments, where decisions affect customers, cost, risk, regulation and service performance.
  • You can lead through ambiguity and influence senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Data, Ops and Finance.
  • You’re a builder-leader: you’ve created teams, systems, processes or capabilities that scale.
  • You’re excited by the challenge of building workforce systems for a future where human and AI capacity operate together.
  • You’re motivated by Monzo’s mission to make money work for everyone, and by the role Operations plays in delivering fast, safe and high-quality customer support as we grow.

👀 Your background could look like…

You may have worked in data science, data products, operational systems, forecasting, marketplace operations, logistics, planning systems, routing, service platforms, AI-enabled operations, or another complex supply/demand environment.

Experience in Workforce Management, customer operations, outsourcing, or contact centres would be useful, but it’s not required. We care more about your ability to understand complex systems, build data products that power operational decisions, and lead across Data, Product, Engineering and Operations.

You also don’t need to be the deepest hands-on forecaster or ML engineer yourself, but you should know what good looks like, set a high bar, and build the team and systems around you.

🌍 The opportunity

This is a senior technology and data leadership role focused on building the next generation of workforce systems at Monzo.

The role sits at the intersection of Data Science, Product, Engineering and Operations. It needs someone who can bring statistical judgement, product thinking, technical credibility and people leadership together to shape systems used in live operational decision-making.

You’ll help Monzo continue to scale Customer Operations as our product set, customer base, AI capabilities and global footprint grow. That means building systems that help us serve customers quickly and safely, use human and AI capacity well, and make high-quality operational decisions in increasingly complex environments.

📍London (UK) | 💰 £85,000-£138,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + benefits

About the Insurance Team:

We’re building insurance that actually works for people – no jargon, no faff, no feeling like you’re being caught out.

Our mission is to offer simple, reliable and delightful insurance products that meet real-life needs, backed by great underwriting and claims partners to power seamless internal operations and exceptional customer experiences.

We’re scaling our first product line, Home insurance, with plans to expand into additional insurance categories over the coming years. We're a focused team with ambitious growth targets and a chance to build something special from the ground up.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Lead Insurance Pricing Analyst to help us better understand and improve the performance of Monzo’s insurance pricing.

This role sits at the intersection of data, pricing, and growth. You’ll be responsible for understanding how our prices perform in market, why, and where changes may be needed - from day-to-day optimisation through to longer-term pricing strategy.

This role will help Monzo bring stronger customer, conversion and market insight into pricing discussions, so we can better understand where we should be competitive, which customer segments we want to grow, and how pricing changes could support both growth and loss performance - while working in partnership with our insurer, who owns the pricing decisions and risk selection.

You’ll work closely with our insurance partner, data scientists, and product teams to turn pricing, risk and loss data into clear, actionable recommendations - particularly as we scale our distribution channels, including on price comparison websites (PCWs).

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Building and maintaining a clear view of day-to-day pricing performance - understanding where we sit in the market and why
  • Analysing pricing, conversion, claims and loss ratio data to identify opportunities to improve growth and profitability
  • Running and supporting pricing experiments (e.g. segment-level changes, elasticity testing) including on PCWs
  • Refining pricing segments, rating factors and tiering to improve decision quality
  • Working with our insurer to evaluate pricing opportunities, assumptions and trade-offs, bringing the Monzo customer, conversion and market insight lens
  • Building a clear view of price competitiveness, especially on PCWs, and recommending actions to improve rank and conversion
  • Working with Data Science to deepen analysis, while independently driving core pricing work
  • Helping develop our internal pricing capability - including frameworks, datasets and ways of working

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience in insurance pricing, risk modelling, or data science - ideally UK Home or another personal lines product
  • You are highly analytical and hands-on with data, comfortable running pricing experiments (e.g., elasticity testing), and using conversion, loss ratio, and risk data to drive actionable decisions
  • You have enough underwriting and pricing knowledge to assess pricing assumptions, rating factors and trade-offs using data
  • You have a solid grounding in SQL and experience with Data Analysis tools such as Python, Jupyter, Looker or similar

Nice to have (but not essential):

  • You’ve worked in a digital-first insurer, insurtech, or high-growth product-led environment
  • You have experience with PCWs or other highly price-sensitive distribution channels
  • Familiarity with underwriting concepts and insurer-led pricing discussions

What’s in it for you

💰 Salary is £85,000 - £138,000 depending on experience

📍 This role will be based out of our London office next to Liverpool Street station - in a hybrid way of working between the office and home

⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

💰 26 days holiday (plus bank holidays)

🏥 Private medical insurance with WPA

📚 £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

🏡 We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

About the Role

This role is for a Senior Engineering Manager where you’ll be a manager of managers. You will be leading across multiple teams in an org of around 20-30 people. We’re expanding and your role as the Senior EM will be to grow and build new squads as needed. Your direct reports will include Tech Leads, Senior Engineers and 2-3 Engineering Managers.

Our teams are mission driven, and typically include Product Managers, backend, web and mobile engineers as well as data scientists, designers and subject matter experts relevant to that mission. Teams are organised into groups, and then collectives - we aim to keep our line management structure as shallow as possible, and for teams to directly own decision making relevant to their work.

These range from the products our customers use everyday to underlying infrastructure, security, payments and finance, customer operations, financial crime, and data, to name just a few areas. As a bank, there is scope for impact across a huge number of opportunities.

We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!

📍London or Remote (UK) | 💰 Base salary for this role is £112,000 - £145,000 + Incentive Awards tied to your performance + Benefits

Engineering Management at Monzo:

Engineering Managers at Monzo are part of cross-functional, autonomous teams and groups.

The Engineering Manager role at Monzo is split into three pillars - people, product, and technical leadership. Engineering Managers are accountable for the technical and delivery outcomes for their area - that means supporting and developing best in class engineering talent, as well as creating an inclusive team environment for people to do their best work.

You can read more on the expectations of Engineering Managers on our Progression Framework.

The Role

We're continuously hiring Engineering Managers as we continue to grow and build new teams. We hire on a pipeline based approach which means your application will be considered across all of our open EM positions. We use the interview process to assess your strengths and we'll match you to a role that best aligns with your experience. Of course, this is a collaborative process so you can also tell us which roles you're most interested in as you progress through interviews 😊 We're currently hiring across Platform, Core App, and Expansion.

You’ll spend your time:

  • Taking accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with the Technical Lead and Product Manager.
  • Actively fostering a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams. You’re accountable for the technical outcomes your teams deliver alongside individual engineer performance and growth, so holding a high bar (and clearly articulating your expectations) is key.
  • You’ll initially lead a group of around 7-10 engineers (depending on the role) and support, coach and develop them through their career with regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
  • Partner with senior engineers in your area to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
  • Lead on communication with stakeholders from other teams, creating focus space for engineers to do their best work.
  • Collaborate with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards.

You should apply if:

While this is not a role which requires hands-on-coding, we are looking for an experienced manager who has a strong technical and delivery background and has worked as a software engineer in previous roles.

We recognise that engineering managers lead in different ways, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Is comfortable operating with ambiguous problem areas with a high degree of autonomy.
  • It’s a bonus if you have experience working in an experimentation led environment.
  • Has delivery experience and is able to guide the squads in achieving their outcomes.
  • Focuses on outcomes over processes, who optimises for the highest impact and leverage.
  • Is able to input, understand and challenge engineering decisions - but to empower the team to make those decisions themselves
  • Has an understanding of what good looks like for a high-performing team of engineers and ability to chart a course to get there
  • Is able to to coach people to achieve their goals
  • Has a natural ability to inspire and motivate a team

We consider your application across all open EM roles at Monzo independent of which role you've applied for, so if you've recently applied to a similar role at Monzo and have been unsuccessful, please wait 6 months before applying again.

📍London or Remote (UK) | 💰 Base salary £170k - £225k + Equity + Benefits

Monzo is on a mission to build technology that connects the world. We are more than a platform; we are a global infrastructure that millions of people rely on for their daily lives, finances, and communication. This puts us in an incredibly unique position. We are the custodians of immense amounts of sensitive financial data as well as people’s money that are highly attractive to sophisticated adversaries and state-level actors.

Monzo has always adopted a Secure by Design model. We believe that security is not a function, but is instead a fundamental property of high-quality engineering. We have a world-class team of software and security engineers who ensure our platform is inherently secure and resilient, and we achieve that by making our security principles an invisible part of the developer experience.

The Role

The Engineering Director, Security will be a senior leader within our global Security organisation, partnering directly with the CISO and other senior engineering leaders. You will lead an organisation of 30–50 engineers and leaders to define and deliver a strategy that protects our global footprint.

We’re looking for a deeply technical software engineering leader who has built and led high performing infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems engineering organisations and can apply those skills to one of Monzo’s most important engineering challenges: making security an embedded, invisible property of how we build software.

You do not need to come from a traditional security background. We care more about exceptional engineering leadership, organisational design, platform thinking, and strong technical judgement than deep specialisation in security.

What you'll do

  • Drive the secure-by-design mandate, leading the transition from reactive security to proactive architectural invariants. Your goal is to ensure that our core platform primitives - compute, storage, networking and identity - are built with inherent security properties that cannot be bypassed.
  • Eliminate systemic risk by identifying fundamental, cross-cutting security problems and driving major software engineering improvements to solve them at the root.
  • Partner with product and software engineering teams to embed a healthy security culture into Monzo’s product development process.
  • Cultivate an engineering-first culture, fostering a culture where security engineers are, first and foremost, software engineers. You’ll ensure your teams are delivering high-leverage tools and frameworks that enable the data and software engineering disciplines to move at the speed-of-thought, without compromising security.
  • Manage a high-performing group of software engineering leaders and senior individual contributors, nurturing a diverse organisation that thrives on solving the world’s most complex security challenges.
  • Collaborate with software engineering managers and engineering leaders to contribute to company-wide security best practices and standards.
  • Form a close alliance with the CISO, CTO, and Product leaders to advise on the long-term health of the business, ensuring our security roadmap is aligned with our global mission.

Responsible for the engineering effectiveness and operational excellence of your teams, setting a high bar for performance, rigour, and inclusive leadership.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a leader who has been in the weeds of technical detail and has moved into high-scale leadership without losing their technical edge. This is not a traditional Head of Security or CISO-style role, and we are intentionally looking beyond career security specialists.

Strong candidates may come from software engineering, distributed systems, developer platforms, infrastructure engineering, or large-scale backend product engineering backgrounds. You do not need to have spent your career in security. What matters most is exceptional engineering leadership, strong technical judgement, and experience building highly reliable, secure-by-default software systems at scale.

Whilst this role doesn’t require deep specialist security expertise, we’re looking for:

  • Architectural authority: You possess the technical depth to understand and challenge complex engineering decisions. You can lead a room of Principal Engineers through a deep-dive into distributed systems, or cryptographic trust boundaries.
  • Proven leadership: You have a track record of leading engineering organisations of 30–50 people in a high-growth, top-tier tech environment. You know how to structure teams for maximum impact and autonomy.
  • Software engineering experience: You likely spent the first half of your career as a Senior or Staff Engineer. You have a deep understanding of how systems are built.
  • Outcome-obsessed: You prioritise high-leverage work over process for process’s sake. You understand that good security looks like a platform that is secure by default, not a long list of compliance tickets.
  • Empathy & inclusion: You have a high degree of emotional intelligence and a relentless drive to create an inclusive, blameless team environment where everyone can do their best work.
  • Decisiveness in ambiguity: You are comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy, making high-stakes decisions in fast-moving, often time-sensitive scenarios.

How we work 💻:

Locations & Flexible Working :

Our main tech hub is in London, but our engineers live everywhere in the UK— from Brighton to the Western Isles.

You’ll build strong and trusted relationships with our Fraud Product, Engineering, Data and Operations teams and work collaboratively to help build and embed effective Fraud controls and processes for our customers, whilst creating a positive culture across our Fraud Group.

You’ll work across Monzo’s global teams and cover all product lines, including current accounts, business banking, borrowing and wealth. You’ll need to be an expert leader and people manager who is equally ready to get hands-on.

We need a team of crime fighters to help us stay one step ahead as we continue to grow. You'll be at the forefront of innovation, employing the latest technologies to craft and develop our prevention-first tools that enable us to stay several steps ahead of the criminals, ensuring the continued trust and safety of our customers.

🤩We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have significant experience leading highly-effective risk teams, ideally in a regulated and fast-paced environment.
  • You have deep knowledge of fraud regulations in the UK and EU.
  • You know how to work hand-in-hand with Product, Engineering, and Data teams, finding the harmonious balance between a product-led mindset and deep fraud risk expertise.
  • You have experience prioritising and developing innovative fraud management strategies, using the latest technology to scale and implement these.
  • You’re able to quickly and confidently understand, articulate and respond to emerging trends and risks across the fraud landscape (plugged into latest industry developments).
  • You can speak to and influence senior internal and external stakeholders with confidence and in line with Monzo’s values.
  • You’re a great manager and coach with a track record of developing high-performing teams, using continuous feedback to empower individuals and drive tangible impact.
  • You’re data-driven (able to self-serve) and use technology to solve problems and identify opportunities.
