As a key member of Enterprise Applications IT (EAIT), the Legal & Compliance AI Engineer owns the AI-first strategy, roadmap, and delivery of the enterprise applications supporting Gusto’s Legal & Compliance organization. This is an AI-forward product role: you will reimagine how legal and compliance work gets done by embedding generative AI, AI agents, and intelligent automation into systems like contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter and legal-spend management, e-signature, entity and corporate records management, legal hold and e-discovery, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms.
Acting as the primary interface between Legal & Compliance teams and EAIT delivery resources, you will translate business needs into well-defined, AI-enabled product requirements, guide solution design, and drive continuous improvement across core legal and compliance processes. In line with Gusto’s enterprise systems strategy, you will help shift legal operations from reactive, manual workflows to predictive, context-aware, and self-improving platforms—designing agentic workflows and Model Context Protocols (MCPs) that connect legal systems to large language models—while ensuring privilege protection, security, compliance, and measurable impact. This role blends product leadership and deep systems knowledge with strong AI literacy and a bias toward applying AI to every part of the legal technology stack.
The Enterprise Applications IT (EAIT) team drives the intelligent transformation of Gusto’s enterprise systems, integrating AI, automation, and advanced analytics across our internal applications ecosystem to improve scalability, efficiency, and decision-making. EAIT builds MCPs, AI agents, and intelligent workflows that connect systems and make enterprise processes smarter, faster, and more predictive, while providing reliable, secure, and scalable application platforms for critical business processes.
Within EAIT, this role provides dedicated, AI-forward product ownership for the Legal & Compliance technology domain, complementing existing product and platform owners to establish a mature, well-governed, and increasingly autonomous enterprise applications operating model. This is a new role, designed to expand the team’s capacity to operationalize AI within legal and compliance workflows and modernize the systems behind that work.

About the role
We're looking for an experienced, customer-obsessed, AI-fluent product marketer to help bring new products, offers, and motions to market — and to find product-market fit through a growth-oriented test-and-learn approach.
This role sits on a newly formed Experimentation team, built specifically for the work that doesn't yet have a settled audience or a clear owner as Gusto quickly evolves our product offerings and the complexity of work we can manage on behalf of small businesses. You'll shape positioning before it's proven, test demand, learn fast, and iterate on what works. You're comfortable building into a system rather than relying on one that already exists — this is earlier-stage but highly strategic work, where the path isn't repeatable yet. Once an audience, product, and GTM motion are proven, the work hands off to the existing product marketing pods — this team's job is to prove it first.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in both strategy and execution: equally comfortable identifying market opportunities, shaping cross-product narratives, and rolling up their sleeves to turn strategy into action. This role will work deeply with leaders across Product, Sales, Growth, and Marketing to align strategies and drive measurable results.
If this sounds like you, and you’re passionate about helping small businesses succeed, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
Architect & Execute GTM Strategy
Lead go-to-market strategy and execution across product areas—partnering with Growth, Product and Marketing to shape customer segmentation, pricing, and GTM motions that drive adoption and growth.
Turn Insights Into Action
Synthesize market research, customer insights, usage data, and cross-functional input to identify opportunities and inform strategy. Translate strategy into actionable plans and ensure GTM execution lands with excellence.
Contribute to a culture of excellence
Create clarity and focus in every project you take on, raise the bar on craft, and foster a culture of insight-driven thinking, collaboration, and results.
Drive Cross-Functional Alignment & Accountability
Act as the strategic tissue across Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience to drive shared goals and orchestrate execution across teams, leveraging technology. Bring structure, momentum, and accountability to complex initiatives. Build new ways of working by building net-new processes/systems that didn’t exist prior.
Own Performance & Optimization
Define success metrics and track performance across initiatives. Drive regular reviews of GTM performance and lead iteration to improve outcomes over time.
Here’s what we're looking for:

About Gusto
At Gusto, we're on a mission to grow the small business economy. We handle the hard stuff — payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR — so owners can focus on their craft and their customers. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.

About the Role:
AI Dev Tools builds the platform Gusto engineers use to work with AI, not just alongside it: agentic coding environments (local and cloud), automated AI code review, and the CI/security infrastructure underneath both. In this role, you'll own that platform end-to-end from the product bet (what should an agent be trusted to do autonomously, and when) to the infrastructure underneath it (CI systems, sandboxing, vendor contracts) to the team building it.
This is not a traditional "developer productivity" management role. You'll be making judgment calls on agent autonomy and security posture, negotiating infrastructure vendor contracts, and setting the AI-spend guardrails your own team operates under in addition to the standard Engineering Manager work of growing and unblocking a team of senior engineers.
About the Team:
AI Dev Tools builds Gusto's agentic coding platform: tooling infrastructure, agent runtimes, AI code reviews, The team also owns the security work required to run AI workloads safely in the cloud, like queue isolation, permission scoping.
The team partners constantly with Infra, Security, and Legal (on vendor contracts and AI risk posture), and reports on strategy directly to Gusto's CTO.

About the Role:
We're looking for a detail driven problem solver who thrives on precision. As a ConversionOps Associate, you'll independently manage the transfer of retirement plans from prior providers onto our platform. That means validating asset allocations, reconciling trust data, and establishing participant loan records before going live. You'll partner closely with CX Onboarding, Compliance, and Reconciliations to catch discrepancies before they become downstream problems.
If you're energized by high stakes work, get satisfaction from finding the one number that doesn't add up, and want to build the operational foundation that makes every conversion go smoothly, this role is for you.
About the Team:
At Gusto 401(k), conversions are the foundation of trust. Before a plan ever starts, our ConversionOps team has already moved every dollar, every loan, and every historical record into place, accurately and on time.

About Design at Gusto:
Design at Gusto is made up of over 80 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We're a cross-functional group that is always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We work closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build, and ship experiences that make a real difference. We believe great design can make hard things possible, even delightful.
We are building an AI-native design organization — and we mean that seriously. We're looking for designers who are already working this way: using AI to prototype ideas quickly, shorten customer feedback loops, and ship quality UX directly to customers. This isn't a future aspiration — it's how we work now, and it's changing what the design role looks like at Gusto and across the industry.

All full-time employees receive competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) — because everyone who helps build Gusto should share in its success. Offer amounts are determined by role, level, and location. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy.
AI is a fundamental part of how work gets done at Gusto. We expect all team members to actively engage with AI tools relevant to their role and grow their fluency as the technology evolves. AI experience requirements vary by role and will be assessed during the interview process.
About the Role:
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with people, navigating complexity, and solving problems in real time. In this role, you'll be the first point of contact for plan sponsors and employers reaching out by phone and email bringing warmth, clarity, and solutions to every interaction. You'll also work closely with Product, Engineering, and Sales to flag trends, improve the customer experience, and help shape the product from the front lines.
If you're calm under pressure, quick on your feet, and motivated by making a real difference in people's financial futures, this role is for you.
About the Team:
At Gusto 401(k), customer care isn't a support function - it's a competitive advantage. Our Account Coordinator team goes beyond traditional service, acting as true advocates for our customers and the businesses that rely on us.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.

Gusto is building AI agents that help small business owners get work done, whether by working alongside them or by automating their work entirely. AI Platform is the group that builds those agents and the underlying platform they run on, which other teams across Gusto also use to build agents of their own.
We're looking for someone to lead the whole group: an organization of around 25 engineers, together with the managers who run each area. The platform is already in production and running a growing number of agents, so much of the work now is scaling it. That means helping the teams settle into their charters, working out what the shared platform should own versus what product teams build for themselves, and keeping the group's direction aligned with Gusto's broader AI strategy. There is considerable room for the group to grow from here.
AI Platform builds Gusto's agents and the platform they run on, along with the AI features customers use directly. One team owns the shared layer: it connects Gusto's products to the models, runs multi-step agent workflows reliably, and provides the model gateway, the tool and MCP registry, and the evaluation and observability tooling, so that any team can build an agent without recreating the same groundwork each time. It is built on LangGraph and the Vercel AI SDK. The other teams build the customer-facing agents on top of that platform, some working directly with customers and others running in the background to automate work on their behalf.
It's already a highly cross-functional group, with product managers, designers, and data scientists working as part of the team alongside the engineers. It partners with product and AI/ML science teams across the rest of Gusto, and reports to the Head of Engineering, Core Experiences.
It's a plus if you've worked across both platform and product engineering, built with a framework like LangGraph or the Vercel AI SDK, or have led in fintech or another regulated environment.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $274,000 to $305,000 in Denver and most remote locations, and $321,000 to $356,000 for San Francisco, New York, and Seattle. Annual cash incentives and Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, level, and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

About the Role:
We're looking for a high-ownership People Business Partner to support our Product and Design organizations at Gusto. This role serves as a trusted partner to leaders across some of our most cross-functional, fast-moving teams at Gusto. This role blends high-trust business partnership with hands-on execution. You'll partner with leaders through organizational changes, drive core People programs and operating rhythms, and act as the connective tissue between Product & Design and the broader People team. The leaders you'll support have strong points of view and deep context - you add value by stress-testing their thinking, then making it happen. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable analyzing data to surface a team health trend, running a clean reorg end-to-end, and building a lightweight process that makes a program actually land. This role is designed for someone who operates with high ownership, has a strong bias toward action, and earns trust with follow-through, not slide decks. We're in an active build phase - this role requires someone who arrives ready to construct, not inherit.
About the Team:
Gusto's People team is growing and scaling with the company! As our business scales and becomes more complex, and as we add hundreds of new Gusties each year, we need to ensure that our strategies for engagement with our employees are positive, engaging, values-driven and compliant.

You'll be part of the team building the next generation of the business insurance purchase experience at Gusto. This role is built for someone who wants to be part of a fast-growing team and build products that customers like to use. You'll take projects from design through implementation to launch, working closely with a good size team to ship AI-powered features that simplify and modernize how businesses discover, evaluate, and purchase insurance. If you're excited about joining a team early in its growth, executing reliably on shipping products rapidly, and learning by building alongside experienced engineers, you'll thrive here.
About the Team:
Business Insurance is one of Gusto's fastest-growing areas. We own the end-to-end business insurance experience — both on and off the Gusto platform — spanning the sale and servicing of P&C insurance products such as Workers' Compensation and General Liability, as well as PEO. The domain is inherently complex, and that complexity creates real opportunity: to rethink how small business owners experience insurance through innovative AI and thoughtful system design, moving the industry beyond its traditional constraints and delivering something meaningfully better for our customers.

We're looking for a Security Engineer to lead Gusto's edge and network security strategy, owning the design and operation of our Cloudflare WAF, DDoS protection, Zero Trust, and broader perimeter controls. The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on Cloudflare expertise and a proven track record of hardening edge and network architectures at scale, including tuning WAF rulesets, defending through live DDoS events, and shipping Zero Trust rollouts engineers actually adopt. With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support more than 500,000 small businesses nationwide and are building a workplace that reflects the people we serve.
The Data Engineering team builds tools and systems that make Gusto's data consistent, user-friendly, and helpful. This helps our teams make decisions using data and provide intelligent, customized experiences to our customers.
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer who can take loosely defined problems and drive them end-to-end—from framing the problem and aligning stakeholders to designing, building, and delivering durable data solutions. You’ll partner closely with analytics, product, and engineering teams to deliver data solutions that drive real business and customer impact.
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $155,000-$185,000/yr in Denver, $170,000-$200,000/yr in Los Angeles, and $190,000-$220,000/yr for San Francisco, Seattle, and New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes non-office days for hybrid employees.
Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.

About the Role:
We're looking for seasoned full-stack software engineers to join the teams behind Gusto's customer-facing products — the features and experiences that small business owners and their employees rely on every day.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll operate across the full product lifecycle: shaping features from early spec and design through to launch and long-term iteration. That means writing clean frontend code, designing and building reliable backend APIs, influencing product direction, and taking ownership of what happens after a feature ships.
If you're drawn to work that combines technical craft with real-world impact — helping power the livelihoods of millions using Gusto products — join us!

Gustie Assist builds Otto, the AI agent that Gusto's support advocates rely on to solve customers' hardest payroll, benefits, and compliance problems. When a small business hits a wall and reaches out, the advocate turns to Otto: it reasons over the customer's full context, answers in the moment, and increasingly takes real actions across Gusto's systems on the advocate's behalf to make the customer whole. We're a small platform team building an agent that reasons, acts, and has to get it right when the stakes are someone's payroll.
This is unusually broad, hands-on applied-AI work: you'll own an LLM agent runtime and the full stack around it, including the tool layer that lets it act over Gusto's systems, the Rails/GraphQL backend, the advocate-facing frontend, and the eval system that keeps it trustworthy while it touches live customer accounts. We keep the path from idea to production short, and measure ourselves on customer outcomes, not model novelty.

About the Role:
We're looking for a AI-native Design Systems Designer to join Gusto's Builder Enablement team — the team responsible for Workbench, Gusto's internal design system, and for how every designer and engineer at Gusto ships high-quality work with AI assistance.
This role sits at an exciting and genuinely new intersection: deep design systems craft combined with fluency in AI-assisted workflows. You'll help evolve and maintain Workbench at a pivotal moment — we're mid-Brand Refresh, actively building AI tooling to improve how builders interact with the system, and expanding how the design system serves LLMs and AI-assisted products as much as it serves human designers. The ideal candidate is a rigorous systems thinker with strong component and token expertise who is excited about using AI tools as a core part of how they work, not just an add-on. We use Figma as a helper tool, but our deliverables are code. The level of this role is similar to/equivalent of a Senior Staff-level.
About the Team:
The Builder Enablement team's mission is to make high-quality, AI-assisted shipping the default for every builder at Gusto. We own Workbench, Gusto's design system, but we also own how it gets expressed to AI tools and builders. Our work spans component design and documentation, token architecture, AI tooling (including MCP servers, prompt engineering, and eval systems), and supporting the broader design and engineering org in using the system well.
We're a small, tight-knit team of designers and engineers embedded within Gusto's design organization, led by our CDO, Amy Thibodeau. We care deeply about craft, systems thinking, and making complex things feel simple for the people who depend on us.
Product Design at Gusto is made up of over 70 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We’re a cross-functional bunch focused on Design, Research, Writing, Ops and Front-end Development who are always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We don’t care a whole lot about swim lanes and we work closely with our partners in Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to design, build and ship experiences that make a difference. We are passionate advocates for thoughtful, crafted, and inclusive experiences and we believe great design can make hard things possible, even delightful. Read more about Design at Gusto.

About Design at Gusto
Design at Gusto is made up of over 80 creative, collaborative people who care deeply about our mission to empower small businesses and their employees. We're a cross-functional group that is always looking for opportunities to build understanding and empathy for the people who use Gusto. We don't care much about swim lanes and though we care deeply about quality and craft, we are never precious about it.
About the Role:
Gusto's Unified Service Platform (USP) is the infrastructure behind how small businesses get help when it matters most — AI-driven support, multi-channel service, and the human expertise that steps in when AI isn't enough. We're looking for a Head of Design to lead the design team behind it and set the bar for what AI-native service design looks like at Gusto.
This is a people-leadership role. You'll lead, coach, and grow a small, high-caliber team of three designers — spanning product design and conversation design — and you'll be accountable for the quality, direction, and delivery of design across the platform. You'll also be the design voice on the USP quartet, peer-to-peer with PM, Engineering, and Data leaders — authoring strategy in ambiguous spaces and spearheading cross-functional convergence. And it's a genuine player-coach role: alongside leading the team, you'll stay hands-on on the highest-leverage design work yourself.
If you want to build and lead the team defining AI-native service design — at the exact moment the category is being invented — this is that role.
About the Team:
The Unified Service Platform team builds the experiences that establish how Gusto customers get help — across self-service, in-product guidance, multi-channel support, and the AI and human experts behind all of it. You'll lead a team of three designers (product and conversation design) within a cross-functional group of engineers, PMs, and data partners, designing for both the small business owners who rely on Gusto and the experts who serve them. Design on USP is a strategic function — embedded in product direction from day one, not brought in at the execution stage.

Where our analysts run and improve the day-to-day, you will build what comes next: standing up new reconciliation and control infrastructure, leading audit remediation, and scaling our operations to new products and entities. You will own cross-functional projects end to end, partner deeply with Engineering, Product, Accounting, and Finance to design and implement new systems and controls, and act as a subject-matter expert the team relies on to frame hard problems and drive them to resolution with minimal oversight. You will also raise the team around you: mentoring analysts, building the reusable AI workflows others adopt, and setting the standard for how the work gets done.
If you want to build durable financial infrastructure in a regulated, high-stakes environment, and lead the projects that let Gusto operate at scale, this is the seat.
About the Team:
Payments are at the core of Gusto's business, and the Platform Operations team is the foundation of financial trust behind them. We safeguard customer funds and keep financial operations accurate, transparent, and scalable, sitting as the connective tissue between Engineering and Accounting/Finance. About the Role:
At Symmetry, we're building the future of payroll compliance technology. We have a powerful vision and an ambitious growth plan—but brilliant strategy is nothing without tactical execution. That's where you come in.
We're looking for a Marketing Programs Specialist to be the operational backbone of our marketing engine—the person who turns strategy into shipped work across new business acquisition and client and product communications. This isn't a role about sitting in meetings or setting strategy; it's about making things happen, and making them happen faster than traditional marketing teams ever could.
You'll work hand-in-hand with two leaders: supporting the Demand Generation Manager to drive new client acquisition, and supporting the Product Marketing Manager to deliver client and product communications. And you'll do all of it as an AI-first marketer—using AI as your co-pilot in everything you touch. We believe the next generation of B2B marketers won't just use AI; they'll make it the default way they work. This role is built for exactly that person.
This is a high-impact execution role with a direct line to pipeline and revenue, offering a front-row seat to building a world-class, AI-first and B2B SaaS marketing function.

Our core mission is to achieve significant growth and position Symmetry as a leader in infrastructure for payroll tax compliance. We're developing a robust enterprise marketing team encompassing demand generation, product marketing, digital marketing, lifecycle marketing and analytics—built from the ground up with AI embedded in how we work.
This role reports to the CMO and works in close partnership with the Demand Gen Manager and Product Marketing Manager. You'll execute across two pillars: new business acquisition (with Demand Gen) and client and product communications (with Product Marketing), gaining broad experience across digital marketing, events, lifecycle and product communications, and AI-first operations while learning from an experienced and collaborative team.

About the Role
We're looking for a staff software engineer to join Tax Accounts — the team whose job is to make the complexity of dealing with hundreds of tax agencies disappear. We're the steward of every Gusto customer's employer and employee tax account data: the registrations, authorizations, rates, and setup that let us withhold, pay, and file correctly on their behalf. Get it right and businesses stay compliant without thinking about it; get it wrong and it costs them real money and trust.
As a Staff Software Engineer on Tax Accounts, you'll operate across the full product lifecycle: clean frontend code, reliable backend APIs and data models against a genuinely complex compliance domain, and the automation that keeps hundreds of thousands of accounts in sync with the agencies behind them. If you want technical craft with far-reaching impact in our modern economy helping power the livelihoods of millions of small business employees — join us.

What Product Management is like at Gusto:
About the Role:
At Gusto, we're building a world where every customer need is understood, matched with the right expertise, and driven to the right resolution, by the right person or AI, at the right time. Making that real requires a sophisticated "System of Intelligence" that understands customer intent, judges problem complexity, decides whether AI or a human should take it, and retrieves exactly the right knowledge and data to answer. T
As Principal Product Manager for the AI-First Service Platform, you'll own core capabilities of the intelligence layer and surface area experience behind Gusto's customer-facing AI help/service — the models and infrastructure that determine what a customer needs, whether AI or a human should resolve it, what context travels with every handoff, and what knowledge the system draws on to answer. You'll own multiple capabilities and/or channels across voice, chat, and email, and you'll be accountable for how well the whole parts of the system actually perform for customers, not just what ships.
This is a role for a systems thinker and hands-on builder. You'll tear down what's overly complex, design simple and durable architecture in its place, experiment and iterate rapidly and create the conditions where operational efficiency and great customer experience reinforce each other — not trade off against each other.
We're looking for someone who can think from first principles, influence at the senior level, and still get into the details when it matters.
About the Team:
The Unified Service Platform (USP) team is the operational backbone behind Gusto's customer experience. We build intelligent systems that align Sales and Service teams around a single source of truth — replacing fragmented tools with a cohesive "System of Intelligence" that gives every team member the full context they need to serve customers effectively.
We are an AI-native team building agentic solutions that transform how work gets done. We own the AI-Human-AI loop across voice, chat, and email — ensuring every interaction, internal or external, is seamless, informed, and effortless. Our north star is simple: make it easy for Gusto's teams to do their best work, so every business we serve feels the difference.
