UK vs US Fintech Salaries: What Live Job Postings Show

US fintech roles that state pay advertise an average range of $174,965 to $229,785, while UK roles advertise £91,948 to £118,521, according to Finjobsly data as of 20 October 2026. The US figure covers 1,172 roles and the UK figure 89, so the UK sample is much thinner. This article compares the two markets without converting currencies, and explains why a direct comparison needs care.

Key findings

  • US roles (n=1,172) average a range of $174,965 to $229,785. UK roles (n=89) average £91,948 to £118,521.
  • US engineering roles (n=416) average $190,499 to $247,871. UK engineering roles (n=21) average £108,176 to £141,633.
  • Only 1,491 of 4,187 active roles (35.6%) disclose pay, so every figure describes a minority of the panel.
  • London roles that state a GBP range (n=59) have a median midpoint of £105,000.

How do UK and US fintech salaries compare?

On the surface, US ranges are roughly double the UK ones in number terms, but the two figures are in different currencies and Finjobsly does not apply an exchange rate. Even after conversion, the comparison is imperfect. The US sample is 13 times larger than the UK sample, the US panel is dominated by large employers that publish pay, and US ranges often span a wide band for level and location. Treat the gap as direction, not a precise multiple.

How do engineering salaries compare?

Engineering is the best like-for-like role. US engineering roles (n=416) advertise an average range of $190,499 to $247,871, and the median midpoint for US engineering is $216,000 (n=354). UK engineering roles (n=21) advertise £108,176 to £141,633. With only 21 UK roles, a single employer can move the average, so read the UK number as indicative. See the dedicated guide to UK fintech engineering salaries.

What does seniority do to pay?

Seniority drives pay more than geography does within the US. Among USD roles with a stated range, the median midpoint is $102,500 for Junior (n=32), $162,500 for Mid-Level (n=173), $195,000 for Senior (n=565), $251,000 for Staff (n=213) and $276,500 for Director (n=52). The panel is senior heavy, with 70.1% of labelled roles at Senior or above, so averages sit high. A mid-level candidate should expect a lower range than the headline average. See the fintech salary report for role-family medians.

Where are the roles based?

By location text on active roles, New York has 844 roles at 25 employers and San Francisco 711 at 18, against 358 roles at 21 employers in London. London is the largest UK hub by a wide margin, with Checkout.com (74), Stripe (53), Monzo (53) and Zopa (34) among its biggest employers. The volume gap helps explain why US pay data is richer. Read the guides to New York and San Francisco, or browse all city pages.

Which market discloses more pay?

Pay disclosure is a market difference in its own right. Across the whole panel, 35.6% of roles state a range, and the US has many more of them. The UK government has proposed requiring salary information in job adverts, which would change this, and our article on UK salary transparency laws covers what is proposed. Until then, UK candidates have less public data to negotiate with.

How should you use the comparison?

  • Compare like with like, meaning the same role family, level and city.
  • Use the median midpoint rather than the average of minimum and maximum.
  • Check the salary benchmark for the specific role, and see the London guide at fintech jobs in London.
  • Ask about equity and bonus, which these figures exclude.

Methodology and data notes

Figures come from the Finjobsly tracked employer panel, which held 4,187 active roles at 36 employers on 20 October 2026. Country groups use the stated currency, with USD roles treated as US and GBP roles as UK. Averages are of the advertised minimum and maximum, and medians use the midpoint of each range. Seniority medians use USD roles with a seniority label. The panel covers the employers we track and not the whole market. Last updated: 20 October 2026. See the methodology page.
