About the role

Join us in building the future of finance. Our mission is to democratize finance for all. An estimated $124 trillion of assets will be inherited by younger generations in the next two decades—the largest transfer of wealth in human history. If you're ready to be at the epicenter of this historic cultural and financial shift, keep reading!

About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world's biggest financial problems. We're looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn't a place for complacency, it's where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We're a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

The Trading Tools builds and evolves the core trading platform for active investors. We power best-in-class research, charting, portfolio management, and execution, and we're integrating AI to deliver precise, personalized, and trusted trading experiences at massive scale.

As Staff iOS Engineer on the Trading Tools team, you'll serve as the technical lead for mobile. The team owns the surfaces active traders use most: the stock detail page, advanced charts, the trading ladder, portfolio, and watchlists. These are some of the most visited and highest-volume screens in the app.

You'll design and build high-performance trading and research interfaces that handle real-time market data, rich charting, and complex portfolio views. You'll work closely with product, design, data science, and backend engineers to ship features that raise the bar on speed, reliability, and usability for pro-grade trading on mobile. You'll also drive architectural decisions that scale with the product and mentor engineers across both platforms, seeing your impact reach users fast!

This role is based in our New York, NY office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.

What you'll do

  • Set the technical vision for mobile across both iOS and Android, and own the quality of execution on both while remaining hands-on in iOS to solve complex technical challenges.

  • Own the architecture of a scalable iOS application supporting core surfaces including stock detail, advanced charts, trading ladder, watchlists, and portfolio.

  • Build a modular, extensible mobile architecture with self-contained components so cross-functional teams can build, test, and ship independently.

  • Drive cross-platform consistency by aligning iOS and Android on architecture, data contracts, feature parity, and release sequencing.

  • Improve application performance, real-time data handling, observability, and release stability across core trading workflows (including rendering, launch time, and page-load time).

  • Evolve charting and research experiences tailored for active traders.

  • Lead the integration of AI-driven capabilities into core trading, research, and portfolio workflows on mobile.

  • Lead technical planning and guide system design reviews, implementation discussions, and incident resolution for high-stakes trading features.

  • Partner with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and data teams to run experiments and drive product release decisions.

  • Mentor iOS and Android engineers through code reviews, technical feedback, and structured development support, helping senior engineers expand toward staff-level scope while defining engineering standards and documentation.

  • Influence mobile platform direction beyond the team by collaborating with adjacent organizations and company-wide initiatives.

What you bring

  • 8+ years of professional experience developing iOS applications, including extensive experience building and maintaining large-scale apps with Swift and modern iOS frameworks (UIKit, SwiftUI).

  • Proven experience owning the technical direction of a product area or platform.

  • Experience designing mobile systems with clear architecture patterns, scalable component design, and maintainable testing strategies for data-intensive or real-time use cases.

  • Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams or platforms, balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform improvements.

  • Strong working knowledge of Android development principles to set technical direction and collaborate effectively with Android engineers.

  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate with product, design, backend, and infrastructure partners to deliver customer-focused technical solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex trading concepts into intuitive mobile experiences.

  • History of mentoring engineers and fostering engineering excellence.

  • Nice to have: experience with financial platforms, trading systems, or real-time market data products.

  • Nice to have: experience with server-driven UI, embedded web or React Native surfaces, live audio/video streaming, or building LLM-powered product features.

What we offer

  • Performance driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, equity ownership, and 401(k) matching

  • Top Tier benefits to fuel your work, including 100% paid health insurance for employees with 90% coverage for dependents
