You’ll maintain and expand the internal development tools and platforms that power Toast’s engineers, including local build tools, service templates, the developer portal, testing frameworks, and AI‑assisted tooling. You’ll also operate the services you own in production, handling monitoring, on‑call duties, and incident follow‑up.
2+ years of professional software engineering experience, proficiency in a language such as Kotlin, Java, Go or TypeScript, and a track record building core libraries or developer tooling. Experience with containers, AWS, testing best practices, and strong empathy for fellow engineers is required.
Developer Experience accelerates every Toast engineer’s workflow, reducing build times, flaky tests, and setup friction, which directly impacts product velocity and customer value. The team also drives AI‑augmented development, shaping how the company builds software for the future.

Developer Experience sits and builds the tools, platforms, and workflows that hundreds of Toast engineers rely on every day. We maintain and grow local development tools that accelerate engineers in the inner-loop of development, increasingly leveraging AI to enhance these workflows. You'll build and improve the tooling they use every day, measure where time is lost, and ship changes that empower Developers across Toast to ship faster and with more confidence. More and more of this work involves AI-assisted development, so you'll help shape how Toast engineers build software in the years ahead.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
