You’ll own the day‑to‑day creation and editing of all copy for borrowing‑related experiences – in‑app screens, error messages, legal wording and marketing toolkits – while collaborating with designers, product marketers, engineers and researchers. You’ll also champion writing standards across the Borrowing collective and contribute to Monzo’s broader Writing discipline.
A seasoned content designer/UX or product writer who understands loans, credit cards and overdrafts, avoids jargon, uses data and research to inform copy, and can juggle multiple tasks. Experience coaching or training others in writing is a plus, but you must be able to hit the ground running.
Clear, empathetic writing is core to Monzo’s mission of making money work for everyone, and high‑quality copy builds trust in borrowing products. This role directly lifts the overall writing quality, helping customers navigate credit decisions confidently.
Someone who thrives in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment, can question briefs and guide teams toward better language, and enjoys elevating writing standards – not a junior journalist or solo‑focused marketer.

📍London or Remote (UK) | 💰£68,000 - £88,000 + Benefits | 12 month fixed term contract
Every word we write matters. From what’s in the app, to job ads (like this one), to error messages, to emails, to internal policies, to… you get the idea.
The Writing team isn’t responsible for writing every word though – we’re here to level up Monzo’s writing overall. We have a well-established tone of voice, and people here really care about making sure all our writing is consistently good and works hard for customers. It’ll be your job to keep that quality up through the writing you do. But you’ll also be a champion for great writing by proving the difference it makes, and helping other people to improve their own writing skills.
Our never-ending reason to exist is to improve the overall quality of writing at Monzo. That means a culture where care for language is the norm. Everyone, in every role, should understand how important it is to write in a clear, empathetic way, and they should all have the skills to do it. The outcome of that will be world-leading writing for customers. They’ll trust us because our writing is clear, effective and works hard for them.
You’ll get together with the other writers pretty regularly to review and showcase work, collect feedback and insights from one another and generally just raise the bar for words at Monzo. And as we hinted at already, you’ll live and breathe our tone of voice, which is propped up by 3 guiding principles: straightforward kindness, everyday magic and warm wit.
