What you'll own

You’ll architect, build, and scale backend services, infrastructure, and data systems for Robinhood’s crypto, web3, and wallet products, delivering critical, high‑rigor technical solutions. You’ll also mentor junior engineers and lead complex projects while continuously improving performance and reliability.

What they're looking for

5+ years of software development in fast‑paced environments, including 3+ years building low‑latency, large‑scale distributed systems for crypto. Proficiency in Go or Python, strong ownership, production debugging, and excellent communication skills are required, plus experience mentoring junior developers.

Why this role matters

The role powers Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance by enabling non‑custodial, cross‑chain trading and tokenization of assets, moving real customer assets continuously. Your work directly impacts the next‑generation crypto and web3 experience for millions of users worldwide.

About this role

Join us in building the future of finance.

Our mission is to democratize finance for all. An estimated $124 trillion of assets will be inherited by younger generations in the next two decades. The largest transfer of wealth in human history. If you’re ready to be at the epicenter of this historic cultural and financial shift, keep reading.

About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world’s biggest financial problems. We’re looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn’t a place for complacency, it’s where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We’re a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll architect, build, and scale the backend services, infrastructure, and data systems that support Robinhood’s next-generation crypto, web3, and wallet offerings. You’ll provide technical leadership to deliver a best-in-class trading experience for cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets—including perpetual futures—to customers worldwide, solving complex distributed systems and correctness challenges in an environment where the systems you build move real customer assets continuously around the clock.

The Robinhood Wallet team’s mission is to democratize access to financial services worldwide by leveraging DeFi protocols and Robinhood Chain. The team builds non-custodial consumer products, self-custody experiences, and seamless cross-chain trading capabilities.

The Tokenization team’s mission is to bring both public and private equity to be tradable 24/7 on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) across the Robinhood Chain. Equity markets have been closed nights and weekends for a century; the team builds the connective tissue between traditional market infrastructure and on-chain systems—issuance, custody, and settlement—to change that.

The Robinhood Chain team designs and scales the underlying decentralized infrastructure across Robinhood. The team continuously improves Robinhood Chain to provide a best-in-class decentralized platform for trading real-world assets, builds specialized smart contracts, and provides infrastructure services for other Robinhood teams that rely on DeFi.

This role is based in our Toronto office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.

What you’ll do

  • Build scalable systems and components, making the right tradeoffs to account for stability and long-term maintainability.
  • Design, write, test, and release critical technical solutions with high engineering rigor.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams and deliver large-scope technical quality projects
  • Mentor junior developers on the team and lead project of large complexity
  • Find opportunities to improve system performance, team efficiency, and minimize risks

What you bring

  • 5+ years of software development experience working in a fast paced environment.
  • 3+ years experience writing low latency, large scale distributed systems for Crypto domains.
  • Proficiency in Go or Python, with exceptional technical grasp with problem-solving and production debugging skills.
  • Strong ownership and experience building and operating high-scale, distributed systems across the full software lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams.
  • Experience mentoring junior developers and leading the team technically on new initiatives and system improvement.
