Senior Risk Analyst, Payments Risk Operations

As a Senior Risk Analyst on the Payments Risk Operations team, you'll serve as the escalation point for our most complex and high-impact risk cases across deposits, withdrawals, trading, and other flagged activity. You'll bring deep expertise in risk workflows and controls, make final calls on hard cases, and turn investigation insights into rule, model, process, and policy improvements in partnership with Risk Modeling, Fraud Detection, and Analytics. You'll work AI-native from day one, using Coinbase's AI tools to accelerate investigations while holding every output to the same evidentiary standard.

What you'll do:

  • Own escalations from Payments Risk Operations and partner teams, including high-dollar losses, suspected fraud rings, and high-profile accounts, making final decisions backed by clear evidence
  • Lead the response to emerging fraud patterns from first detection through root cause analysis, loss assessment, and remediation
  • Maintain expert knowledge of review workflows, SOPs, and risk controls, keeping them current as products and threats evolve
  • Drive rule and model performance measurement in partnership with Risk Modeling and Analytics, tuning controls that reduce losses with minimal customer friction
  • Present findings and recommendations to Risk leadership and partners across Product, Engineering, and Customer Support, coaching analysts to improve accuracy and consistency

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years in payments risk, fraud operations, or fraud investigations, including serving as an escalation point for complex cases with decision-making authority
  • Deep understanding of ACH, cards, wires, and crypto payment rails, including where each is exposed to fraud, with proven track record improving risk controls, rules, or models based on investigation findings

  • Experience reviewing analyst decisions for quality and SOP adherence, with demonstrated ability to communicate complex risk decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
