About this role

About the Company

Gemini is a global crypto and Web3 platform founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in 2014, offering a wide range of simple, reliable, and secure crypto products and services to individuals and institutions in over 70 countries. Our mission is to unlock the next era of financial, creative, and personal freedom by providing trusted access to the decentralized future. We envision a world where crypto reshapes the global financial system, internet, and money to create greater choice, independence, and opportunity for all — bridging traditional finance with the emerging cryptoeconomy in a way that is more open, fair, and secure. As a publicly traded company, Gemini is poised to accelerate this vision with greater scale, reach, and impact.

The Department: Risk Engineering

The Role: Senior Associate, Fraud Operations

As a Senior Fraud Operations Associate in the Fraud domain, you will work to enhance and expand the features of our fraud detection and mitigation systems across various product lines, including Exchange, Credit Card, Equities, Predictions, Wallet, and across the entire customer lifecycle. You will be responsible for investigating customer accounts for first, second, and third party fraud, including payment instrument abuse, scams, and account takeovers. You will also be instrumental in shaping Gemini’s fraud models and rules, working regularly with product, engineering, and data science, as well as improving and optimizing operations itself to ensure a balance between customer friction and fraud.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate financial fraud and scams across multiple product lines
  • Review complex data sets, such as ACH/debit card/credit card/wallet transactions, device telemetry, and blockchain data
  • Respond to customers to obtain additional information regarding the actions that occurred on their account to make a properly informed decision
  • Identify trends and patterns in fraud activity and suggest rule, feature, and policy updates
  • Deeply understand the customer journeys to identify pain points due to fraud controls and suggest updates to alleviate them
  • Leverage experience and knowledge to suggest improvements to operational flows
  • Prepare fraud reports on material investigations and general fraudulent activity and present to leadership at weekly meetings
  • This role may require an on-call or extended hours during fraud events

What they're looking for

  • BA/BS in finance, economics, accounting, or related fields, or equivalent experience in said field
  • 3-5+ years of direct fraud investigative experience, including in ACH and credit card fraud
  • 2-5+ years of direct scam and account integrity investigative experience
  • Knowledge of device telemetry data, account integrity systems, and internet technologies, such as VPNs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable with making decisions in high ambiguity environments
  • A healthy balance of empathy and skepticism, and the ability to acknowledge incorrect decisions

What they're looking for — preferred

  • Regional fraud knowledge, including in the US and Singapore
  • Experience with IDV, KYC, and transaction monitoring systems
