About this role

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

About the role

Adyen is looking for a Group Financial Controller to join our Group Finance team in Amsterdam. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to challenge the status quo, re-imagine processes from the ground up and see the change through to the end.

In this role, you are responsible for implementing change in how we close the books and control our financial data. Our ambition is an autonomous close: minimal human involvement, with tooling (including AI) while we keep strict governance over accounting data that is accurate, valid and complete. Alongside it, we want continuous insight where it matters most for control, such as net revenue and expenditure. You will design the solutions, bring the organisation along and deliver the projects, so that Adyen and Finance can scale processes 10X.

At Adyen we like to build things ourselves - in this team you will play a key role in applying out-of-the box solutions to improve control and streamline ways of working.

What you'll do

Drive the change

  • Own the roadmap (certain processes) to an autonomous close: define the steps from today's close towards minimal human involvement, set the milestones and measures of success, and deliver them;
  • Design and deliver the change with FinOps and the Financial Data Teams (FDT), using automation and AI tooling to take manual work out of core accounting processes;
  • Run the change end to end (certain processes): project and programme management, stakeholder alignment and change management, so that new ways of working are adopted across FinOps, regional Controllers and GL accountants;
  • Build continuous insight on the areas that matter most for control: define the monitoring and validation checks and make every figure traceable and rerunnable;
  • Keep the control environment intact while we automate: accounting data stays accurate, valid and complete, with clear ownership, segregation of duties and an audit trail;

Run and control the close

  • Partner with Tax and FinOps teams to maintain a scalable intercompany framework and review reconciliations;
  • Own the monthly consolidated P&L one pager (Net Revenue and EBITDA), explaining variances between actuals and the set expectation with clear business context and building the validation tools needed to produce it;
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Own month-end close activities, coordination and setting of consolidated and regional materiality thresholds;

Who you are

  • Minimum of 5+ years experience in financial control, accounting, and external audit (Big 4 experience is a strong plus);
  • A proven track record of implementing change in a finance or accounting environment: process design, change management and project management, from idea to adoption;
  • Track record in process optimization and automation. Experience with Workday, Workday Accounting Center, Workiva, or similar ERP systems, and with data and AI tooling, is a plus;
  • Experience managing complex multi-entity global accounting, intercompany settlements, cross-border flows, and transfer pricing;
  • Strong IFRS knowledge and experience working with external auditors on complex audits;
  • Strong stakeholder skills: you align Finance, Tax, FinOps, data teams and regional Controllers around a shared plan and keep them moving;
  • You have an analytical mindset, proactively identify challenges and work independently, but are never afraid to ask for help;
  • Ability to run multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritise;
  • Able to think 2 steps ahead. We are looking for someone who can think critically and creatively to implement solutions that scale during Adyen's rapid growth;

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments

Our unique approach is a product of our diverse perspectives. This diversity of backgrounds and cultures is essential in helping us maintain our momentum. Our business and technical challenges are unique, and we need as many different voices as possible to join us in solving them - voices like yours. No matter who you are or where you’re from, we welcome you to be your true self at Adyen.

Studies show that women and members of underrepresented communities apply for jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. Does this sound like you? If so, Adyen encourages you to reconsider and apply. We look forward to your application!

What’s next?

Ensuring a smooth and enjoyable candidate experience is critical for us. We aim to get back to you regarding your application within 5 business days. Our interview process tends to take about 4 weeks to complete, but may fluctuate depending on the role. Learn more about our hiring process here. Don’t be afraid to let us know if you need more flexibility.

This role is based out of our Amsterdam office. We are an office-first company and value in-person collaboration; we do not offer remote-only roles.
