What you'll own

Lead a team of six engineers, driving the re‑architecture of core account and transaction‑history systems and owning the FinHub Tools roadmap (internal UIs, dashboards, and workflows). Shape architectural decisions across distributed services, streaming pipelines, and full‑stack tooling while managing quality processes, incident response, and on‑call duties.

What they're looking for

7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years of engineering‑management experience, a proven record of delivering and operating large‑scale distributed systems, and background in financial or event‑driven architectures. Must be able to translate ambiguous, long‑term technical challenges into concrete, measurable plans and be comfortable with full‑stack and developer‑experience concerns.

Why this role matters

The team builds the universal account primitive and real‑time transaction history that power every Coinbase product, and the role will enable the next decade of scale and new offerings such as sub‑accounts and retirement accounts, directly impacting the company’s core financial infrastructure.

Best suited to

A senior engineer‑leader who thrives on high‑impact, high‑scale finance infrastructure, enjoys building and coaching teams, and can navigate complex, ambiguous problems to deliver reliable, production‑ready systems.

Work arrangement: remote

About this role

Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase.

As an Engineering Manager on the FINT (Financial Intelligence) team within FinHub in the Platform group, you'll lead the engineers building the account and transaction history infrastructure that underpins every Coinbase product. FINT owns the universal account primitive, the real-time transaction history engine, and the internal developer experience platform for FinHub. You'll guide your team through a critical inflection point: re-architecting these foundational systems for the next decade of scale while enabling new financial products like sub-accounts, retirement accounts, and agentic trading experiences.

What you'll do

  • Lead and grow a team of 6 engineers across multiple levels, coaching on technical excellence, career development, and organizational impact
  • Drive the re-architecture of core account and history systems to support new product primitives and higher throughput demands at Coinbase's next stage of growth
  • Own the Finhub Tools roadmap, building internal UIs, dashboards, and agentic workflows that accelerate engineering and operations teams across the company
  • Shape architectural decisions across distributed systems, streaming pipelines, and full-stack tooling, fostering a culture of high-quality code and thorough design reviews
  • Collaborate with product, finance, and engineering leadership to define and execute a quarterly roadmap, breaking complex infrastructure projects into iterative, shippable milestones
  • Partner with the talent organization to recruit exceptional engineers and own engineering quality processes including SLA accountability, incident response, and on-call practices

What they're looking for

  • 7+ years in software engineering with at least 2 years of engineering management experience, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers
  • Proven track record delivering and operating distributed systems at scale in production, with hands-on ability to review code, lead incidents, and triage issues when needed
  • Demonstrated success translating ambiguous, long-horizon technical problems into concrete execution plans with measurable milestones
  • Experience with financial systems, event-driven architectures, or high-precision transaction processing where correctness and reliability are critical
  • Comfort leading teams with diverse scope (backend services, streaming pipelines, and full-stack tooling) with an appreciation for developer and operator UX
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
