About this role

This is Adyen

Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

Engineering Manager - Bank Payments NORAM

As an Engineering Manager based in Chicago, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for expanding and innovating Adyen’s Bank Payments platform in North America. Your mission is to drive our expansion in the US and Canada with new payment methods, while simultaneously enhancing the quality and capabilities of our existing products. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role where you will guide the team in building a low-cost, highly reliable alternative to traditional payment methods for our merchants.

As a people leader, you will champion an inclusive and collaborative environment, coach engineers to develop ownership, and shape the technical and product direction within one of Adyen's fastest-growing payment domains.

What you'll do

  • Partner closely with our Product Manager to define the roadmap and translate strategic goals into a clear technical vision. You will guide architectural discussions, champion high engineering standards, and empower your senior engineers to own technical solutions end-to-end.
  • Coach and mentor a skilled team of engineers, fostering their career growth and a deep sense of ownership. You will lead by setting clear context, creating a culture of collaboration, and ensuring the team operates effectively and with high morale.
  • Take ownership of the team's delivery, focusing on long-term platform scalability, resilience, and maintainability. You will balance product delivery with technical investment and ensure your team is equipped to operate a reliable, high-volume payments platform.

Who you are

  • You have a track record of leading and developing software engineering teams, fostering a culture grounded in ownership and collaboration.
  • You have a strong software engineering background and enjoy leading technical discussions, facilitating architectural decisions, and balancing engineering quality with business priorities.
  • You are a strong partner to Product Managers, with experience shaping a roadmap and turning business priorities into scalable technical solutions.
  • You are passionate about coaching engineers through mentorship, regular feedback, and long-term career development.
  • You thrive in cross-functional settings and can comfortably coordinate with stakeholders on demanding initiatives, such as large merchant go-lives.
  • Experience in the payments domain is a plus, but not required.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional engineering teams
  • 7+ years of experience in software development in a fast paced tech environment
