What you'll own

You’ll underwrite and manage a portfolio of Stripe’s largest, fastest‑growing APAC businesses, evaluating their financials, cash‑flow forecasts and transaction patterns to make credit decisions and set risk mitigations.

What they're looking for

5+ years in commercial credit underwriting or credit‑risk modeling, strong accounting knowledge, and a bachelor’s in finance‑related field (or equivalent). Must have strong analytical, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Why this role matters

The role protects Stripe from financial loss while enabling high‑growth merchants to expand, directly supporting the company’s mission to increase the internet’s GDP.

Best suited to

A detail‑oriented analyst who balances risk with growth, enjoys working with senior executives, and thrives in fast‑paced, cross‑functional fintech environments, especially with APAC exposure.

About this role

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Credit Risk team is responsible for managing the credit risk generated by businesses processing payments on Stripe. The team combines commercial underwriting, portfolio management, analytics, and cross-functional partnership to protect Stripe from financial loss while enabling strong businesses to grow. The APAC Credit Risk team supports a diverse portfolio of businesses across the region. We partner closely with Sales, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Product, Operations, and other Risk teams to make sound, timely credit decisions and develop scalable approaches to managing risk.

What you’ll do

You will underwrite and manage a portfolio of Stripe’s largest and fastest-growing businesses across APAC. You will evaluate complex business models and financial information, develop clear credit recommendations, and identify mitigations that protect Stripe while supporting sustainable user growth.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Stripe’s largest and fastest-growing businesses across APAC.
  • Evaluate business models, financial statements, cash-flow forecasts, transaction patterns, and other relevant information to assess credit risk.
  • Develop clear, data-driven credit recommendations and tailored risk mitigations that balance Stripe’s exposure with users’ ability to grow.
  • Build expertise across APAC industries, geographies, payment flows, and operating models, and apply this context to underwriting and portfolio decisions.
  • Provide credit insights that support onboarding, ongoing portfolio management, commercial decisions, and merchant-pricing analysis.
  • Conduct periodic and trigger-based reviews, identify changes in risk, and recommend timely actions to manage Stripe’s exposure.
  • Support the refinement of systems, tools, and processes to help the team deliver on key performance indicators, such as credit loss targets or portfolio coverage metrics.
  • Communicate credit decisions, risk considerations, and mitigation requirements clearly to internal stakeholders and to users, including CFOs and CEOs.
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Product, Engineering, Operations, and other Risk teams to resolve complex cases and improve Stripe’s credit-risk capabilities.
  • Identify recurring portfolio trends and underwriting gaps, and translate these insights into improvements to policies, controls, and decision frameworks.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial-risk modeling, cash-flow forecasting, or portfolio credit risk.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong accounting knowledge and demonstrated ability to evaluate financial statements, cash flows, business models, and sources of repayment.
  • Ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative information into a clear credit-risk narrative, approval rationale, and mitigation strategy.
  • Sound commercial judgment and the ability to balance financial-risk considerations with user growth and business objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex credit decisions to senior internal stakeholders and user executives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as Sales, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Product, Operations, or Risk.
  • Empathy for entrepreneurs and a strong motivation to develop solutions that enable responsible business growth.

Preferred qualifications

  • Fluency in Mandarin as this role involves communications with users, stakeholder or clients in the Greater China region.
  • Experience underwriting businesses across multiple APAC markets, industries, or cross-border operating models.
  • Experience in payments, fintech, e-commerce, technology, or another fast-growing environment.
  • SQL experience and the ability to independently analyze portfolio or transaction-level data.
  • Strong data-visualization skills and experience developing portfolio monitoring or management reporting.
  • Experience improving underwriting policies, decision tools, risk controls, or portfolio-management processes.
