Roughly one in twelve fintech jobs is entry level. Of 4,151 active roles on Finjobsly with a seniority label (snapshot of 27 October 2026), 277 are Junior (6.7%) and 77 are internships (1.9%), while 69.7% sit at Senior level or above. The market is built for people who already have experience.
Key findings
- Finjobsly observed (27 October 2026): of 4,151 labelled roles, Senior is the largest group at 1,867 (45.0%), followed by Mid-Level at 904 (21.8%) and Staff at 511 (12.3%).

- Finjobsly observed: Toast alone has 65 of the 354 early-career roles (18.4%), and the 12 employers with the most early-career roles hold 282 of them (79.7%).
- Published sources: NACE projected a 5.6% rise in Class of 2026 hiring across industries, and UK graduate hiring rose about 4% but only about 0.8% without a few very large employers.
What does the fintech seniority ladder look like?
Finjobsly assigns a seniority label to 4,151 of its 4,200 active roles across 36 tracked employers. The mix is heavy in the middle and at the top.
| Level | Active roles | Share of labelled roles |
|---|---|---|
| Senior | 1,867 | 45.0% |
| Mid-Level | 904 | 21.8% |
| Staff | 511 | 12.3% |
| Junior | 277 | 6.7% |
| Lead | 258 | 6.2% |
| Director | 166 | 4.0% |
| Internship | 77 | 1.9% |
| Principal | 63 | 1.5% |
| Executive | 18 | 0.4% |
| VP | 10 | 0.2% |
Senior alone outnumbers Mid-Level and Junior combined by a wide margin. Staff roles, which usually ask for deep technical ownership, are almost twice as common as Junior roles.
Which employers hire at entry level?
Early-career hiring is concentrated. Toast has 65 Junior or Internship roles, Stripe 53 and Coinbase 35. Block and Checkout.com have 19 each, Ramp 18, Brex 16, Robinhood 14, Affirm 13, Qonto 11, Tide 10 and FloQast 9. Those 12 employers hold 282 of the 354 early-career roles.
Share of an employer's own roles tells a different story from raw counts. Qonto has 11 early-career roles out of 42 labelled ones (26%) and FloQast 9 out of 39 (23%), which is a much higher rate than Stripe's 53 out of 722 (7%). If you are early in your career, a smaller employer with a high junior share may be a better target than a large employer with a bigger absolute number.
What do outside sources say about junior hiring?
None of the sources below are fintech specific, so read them as background rather than proof.
NACE's April 2026 update found employers expecting to raise Class of 2026 hiring by a median 5.6%, with firms of 5,000 or more staff planning 8.7%. In the UK, the Institute of Student Employers reported graduate hiring up about 4% in 2025 to 2026, but only about 0.8% once a few very large employers were removed.
The Stanford Digital Economy Lab's August 2026 update found that employment of 22 to 25 year olds in the most AI-exposed occupations was 19% below where it would have been had it tracked less-exposed peers, with no comparable gap for workers aged 26 and over. The authors describe the result as descriptive rather than causal, and the effect shrinks and loses statistical significance when more controls are added. It is a signal worth watching, not a verdict on fintech.
What this means if you are starting out
The mix is a reason to be selective. Aim at employers with a visible junior pipeline, and use the other 91.5% of the market as a map of what you will be asked to grow into. Our guides to entry-level fintech jobs and breaking into fintech as a student cover the route in more detail, and the guide to fintech job titles explains what each level means in practice.

Frequently asked questions
What share of fintech jobs are entry level?
On Finjobsly's panel, Junior and Internship roles are 8.5% of labelled roles (354 of 4,151) as of 27 October 2026.
Are most fintech jobs senior?
Yes. Senior or above makes up 69.7% of labelled roles (2,893 of 4,151), and Senior alone is 45.0%.
Which fintechs have the most junior roles?
Toast (65), Stripe (53) and Coinbase (35) have the most. Qonto and FloQast have the highest junior share among employers with open early-career roles.
Does AI explain the low share of junior roles?
We cannot say. Stanford's work links AI exposure to weaker employment among young workers in some occupations, but its authors call the result descriptive, and Finjobsly has no data on why employers post fewer junior roles.
How are seniority labels assigned?
Labels are derived from role titles and ad text. Some roles carry no label, which is why the denominator is 4,151 and not 4,200.
Methodology and data sources
Data snapshot. Finjobsly live job market data, 27 October 2026: 4,200 active roles at 36 tracked employers, 4,151 with a seniority label. Percentages use labelled roles as the denominator. "Senior or above" means Senior, Staff, Lead, Principal, Director, VP and Executive.
Limits. The panel is not the whole market, and Stripe is 17.5% of all roles. Labels are inferred and imperfect. We make no trend claims because scrapers were connected in July 2026. See the research methodology.
