Most In-Demand Fintech Jobs in 2026: Pay, Seniority and Employers by Job Family

Engineering and sales are the two largest job families among the fintech roles Finjobsly tracks. As of 20 October 2026, Finjobsly tracked 4,190 active roles at 36 employers, and 1,096 of them (26.2%) are engineering titles while 926 (22.1%) are sales or go-to-market titles. Volume is only part of the picture. The families differ sharply in how senior the roles are, how concentrated the hiring is in a single employer, and what the advertised pay looks like. Product and marketing roles are 86% and 82% senior or above, sales roles are 53%, and median advertised USD minimum pay ranges from $120,000 (operations and support) to $191,500 (engineering). This article takes the job-family view rather than a list of individual titles. It is not comparable with the 1 October edition: the panel has since grown from 33 to 36 employers and from 2,692 to 4,190 roles.

Key findings

  • Engineering (1,096 roles, 26.2% of the panel) and sales and go-to-market (926, 22.1%) together make up 48.3% of the 4,190 active roles Finjobsly tracked at 36 employers on 20 October 2026.
  • Sales hiring is the most concentrated family: Stripe (246 roles) and Toast (218) account for 464 of the 926 sales roles (50%). Toast alone lists 134 Territory Account Executive roles.
  • Engineering is the broadest of the large families, with roles at 34 of the 36 employers, and its top three employers hold 33% of its roles.
  • Seniority differs by family. Of roles with a level recorded, 86% of product and design roles and 82% of marketing roles are Senior or above, against 53% in sales and 56% in operations and support. Operations and support has the highest junior and intern share (15%), followed by sales (13%).
  • Median advertised USD minimum pay (n is the number of USD roles with a usable range) is highest for engineering ($191,500, n=384) and product and design ($190,800, n=144) and lowest for operations and support ($120,000, n=49). Data and machine learning is $172,500 (n=84).
  • Remote share among roles with a work style recorded is highest in data and machine learning (73%), product and design (67%) and engineering (67%), and lowest in sales (44%) and finance (50%).

How big is each fintech job family?

Each of the 4,190 active roles was assigned to one family from its title using a fixed set of keyword rules (summarised in the methodology). The table shows roles per family, the number of the 36 employers hiring in that family, and the three employers with the most roles in it. This is Finjobsly's panel, not the whole fintech market, and Stripe alone is 776 roles (18.5%) of the panel, so some of the pattern below is a Stripe pattern.

Stripe is the largest or joint-largest employer in all ten rows. Its share of a family ranges from 11% (finance) to 33% (operations and support), against 18.5% of the whole panel. Stripe is therefore over-represented in operations and support (33%), sales (27%) and people (26%), and under-represented in finance (11%), engineering (14%), data and machine learning (15%) and risk, compliance and legal (15%). If Stripe is removed, engineering is the largest family with 939 of the remaining 3,414 roles (27.5%) and sales is 680 (19.9%), so the gap between them widens.

Which job family is hired by the fewest employers, and which depends on one company?

Sales is the family with the clearest single-employer effect. Toast lists 218 sales roles, of which 134 are titled Territory Account Executive, and territory titles typically name a town, state or region. Block lists a further 23 Territory Account Executive roles. Those 157 territory roles are 17% of the entire sales family. They show a field sales model that hires by geography, which is different from the enterprise and partnership sales hiring at Stripe. A reader comparing sales volume across fintech should not read 926 as a measure of the average employer: 32 of 36 employers have at least one sales role, but two of them supply 50% of the roles and three supply 63%.

People is the thinnest family, at 22 employers, and it leans on Stripe (26% of its roles). Marketing is next at 29 employers, and Brex and Stripe together supply 46 of its 127 roles (36%). If you work in either function, the live evidence is that the number of distinct fintech employers actively hiring is smaller. Engineering, by contrast, is spread across 34 employers, and its top three employers hold 33% of its roles, against 35% in product and design, 45% in operations and support and 63% in sales.

How senior are fintech jobs in each family?

Seniority is recorded on 4,132 of the 4,190 roles (98.6%). The table groups levels as Junior and Internship, Mid-Level, and Senior and above (Senior, Staff, Principal, Lead, Director, VP and Executive). Percentages use the roles with a level recorded in that family as the denominator.

The conclusion for early-career candidates is blunt. Across the panel, 336 of 4,132 roles (8.1%) are junior or internship. Sales and operations and support have the largest share of roles below Senior (47% and 44%), and together they account for 143 of the 336 junior and intern roles (43%). Product has 8 junior or intern roles in 402. Candidates in product, marketing and people are competing for openings that employers label Senior or above in about 80% or more of cases, so a track record in an adjacent role matters more than a job title. The guide to fintech job titles explains how levels map to responsibilities.

How much do fintech job families pay?

Only roles that advertise a salary range can be compared. Of 4,190 active roles, 1,493 (35.6%) carry an advertised pay range in some currency. The table uses the 1,172 roles paid in US dollars with a usable range, excluding 8 USD roles with a minimum below $20,000 or a maximum below the minimum (likely hourly or malformed entries). Figures are the median of advertised minimums and the median of advertised maximums within each family. n is the number of USD roles in the calculation, and every family has an n of at least 20.

Job familyMedian advertised minimum (USD)Median advertised maximum (USD)n
Engineering$191,500$241,838384
Product and design$190,800$250,900144
Data and machine learning$172,500$231,00084
Risk, compliance and legal$165,000$215,00073
Sales and go-to-market$156,200$233,168137
Other (no family match)$150,000$195,490180
Marketing$148,000$197,00049
Finance$144,000$180,00044
People$141,000$195,00028
Operations and support$120,000$151,00049

Three caveats apply. First, these are advertised ranges at the panel employers, and US tech-led fintechs dominate the USD sample, so they are not market averages. The overall median advertised minimum for the 1,172 USD roles is $172,000 and the median maximum is $227,600. Second, sales ranges are base pay ranges and exclude on-target earnings, which Finjobsly records separately on only 28 USD roles. Third, a family median can be pulled by a single employer when that employer supplies much of the sample. For context, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports median annual pay of $135,980 for software developers in May 2025 and $120,230 for data scientists, across all industries and employer types (BLS software developers and BLS data scientists, accessed 1 October 2026). Advertised fintech minimums in the panel sit well above those economy-wide medians. To check a specific offer, use the Finjobsly Salary Benchmark.

Which fintech job families can be done remotely?

Work style is recorded on 3,145 of the 4,190 roles (75.1%). Of those, 1,879 (59.7%) are tagged remote. The family denominators below are the roles with a work style recorded in that family, so they are smaller than the family totals.

Sales is the family where hybrid is most common (332 of 659 roles with a work style, 50.4%, against 290 remote), which fits the territory-based field roles described above. Remote labels in postings often carry country or time zone limits, so check each listing. The remote fintech jobs page lists the live remote inventory.

What does this mean for choosing a fintech career path?

Three practical readings follow from the data, each limited to Finjobsly's tracked employers.

  • If you are early in your career, sales and operations and support are where junior and mid-level openings cluster. Operations and support has the lowest median advertised minimum ($120,000), and sales has the widest gap between median minimum ($156,200) and median maximum ($233,168).
  • If you are an experienced engineer or data professional, the volume and spread of employers is the strongest in the panel: engineering is hiring at 34 employers and data and machine learning at 30, and the advertised minimum is $191,500 for engineering and $172,500 for data and machine learning at the median.
  • If you work in people, marketing or finance, the pool of hiring employers is narrower or a few employers supply a disproportionate share (Stripe is 26% of people roles, and Brex and Stripe together are 36% of marketing roles), so applications should not rely on one company.

Methodology

All Finjobsly figures come from the platform's live job database (active roles only), as of 20 October 2026, covering 4,190 active roles at 36 tracked employers. This is Finjobsly's panel, not the whole fintech market, and one employer (Stripe) accounts for 18.5% of the roles. Role families are assigned from job titles using one rule applied across Finjobsly articles, in this order: data and machine learning (data scientist, machine learning, data or analytics engineer, data and business analyst, BI, analytics, and fraud, risk or credit modelling titles), sales and go-to-market (sales, account executive, business development, SDR or BDR, partnerships, customer success, account management, solutions engineering), operations and support (any title containing support), engineering (engineer, developer, software, SRE, DevOps, architect), product and design, risk, compliance and legal, marketing, finance, people, and operations. Titles that match none are counted as other. Title matching is imperfect, so a few roles may sit in a neighbouring family, and the boundaries of the smaller families (marketing, finance, people, operations and other) are the least precise. Each role is counted in one family only. Seniority is recorded on 4,132 roles and work style on 3,145. Pay figures use USD roles with a minimum of at least $20,000 and a maximum not below the minimum (1,172 roles); other currencies are excluded because they are not comparable. Medians are of advertised minimums and maximums, not salaries paid. External figures are from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, as accessed on 1 October 2026. No trend claims are made because the panel was assembled in July 2026, and these figures are not comparable with the 1 October edition because the panel has grown.
