What you'll own

You’ll own the end‑to‑end global tax compliance for the group – corporation tax, VAT, transfer pricing, US 1099 reporting and employee share‑scheme tax – handling filings, payments and reviews. You’ll also manage tax risk controls, prepare tax disclosures and support the Head of Tax on advisory projects and integration work.

What they're looking for

CTA or ACA qualified with Big 4, mid‑tier or in‑house experience, strong UK direct and indirect tax expertise, and a working knowledge of payroll taxes and share‑scheme tax. You should be comfortable with tax accounting, translating tax rules into commercial advice, and using IT tools and automation. A self‑starter with clear communication skills is essential.

Why this role matters

Accurate tax compliance and reporting protect the business from regulatory penalties and support strategic decisions around product launches, M&A and global expansion. The role underpins the integration with Mollie and ensures the group’s tax risk is well‑controlled and transparent to investors and authorities.

Best suited to

A tax professional who thrives on compliance work but also enjoys advisory projects, preferably with experience in financial services, payments or a fast‑growing scale‑up, and who is comfortable working with technology and cross‑functional teams.

About this role

About us

GoCardless, a Mollie company, is a global leader in bank payments. Over 100,000 businesses, from start-ups to household names, use GoCardless to collect, manage and send bank payments through Direct Debit, real-time payments and open banking. With US$130bn+ processed annually across 30+ countries, we handle recurring and one-off payments without the chasing, stress, or expensive fees. Our end-to-end payment platform also features AI-powered solutions to improve payment success and reduce fraud, alongside connections to over 350 platforms businesses use everyday.

We are headquartered in the UK, with teams and operations spanning North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.  For more information, please visit www.gocardless.com and follow us on LinkedIn @GoCardless.

Mollie is the leading payments and financial services partner for business, rooted in Europe, with global reach.

The Role

As a Tax Manager you will cover corporation tax, VAT and transfer pricing (routine compliance and advisory work) across a small global group, and you will have scope to improve the systems and processes behind them. You will also support the Head of Tax with advisory work. We expect the split to be roughly 80% BAU compliance, reporting and controls, and 20% advisory and projects. This is a fixed-term position covering a temporary period of leave, with handover provided.

What excites you:

Compliance and reporting

  • Manage the group’s global tax compliance, filing and payment obligations: provide financial information to external advisers and review returns before submission.
  • Help prepare and review indirect tax filings, and review related systems and processes, implementing changes that improve efficiency.
  • Manage US reporting obligations for payment processors (1099-K and other 1099 series), including working with Product on any system changes.
  • Review and advise on the application of our transfer pricing policies, including calculations that support adjustments.
  • Manage the tax aspects of our employee share incentive schemes.
  • Help prepare the tax reporting arising from the Mollie acquisition, including equity and share-scheme reporting.

Accounting, controls and transfer pricing

  • Help manage the tax risk control framework: review and test controls, and reconcile balances to validate tax filings.
  • Prepare tax disclosures for consolidated and entity-level financial statements.

Advisory and projects

  • Support the Head of Tax on integration planning and other advisory projects, such as corporate structure reviews, new lines of business, debt and equity funding, overseas expansion, M&A and FATCA.
  • Advise Engineering, Product, Legal and People teams on the tax implications of new products, system developments and payroll matters.
  • Document tax systems and processes to support the integration with Mollie and keep the group well controlled as it evolves.
  • Work collaboratively on integration projects with Mollie’s tax team.

Stakeholders

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisers and preparers.
  • Handle enquiries from tax authorities, investors and other stakeholders.

What excites us:

  • CTA or ACA qualified, from Big 4, mid-tier or in-house practice, ideally with in-house, financial services or payments experience.
  • Strong UK direct and indirect tax expertise.
  • A working knowledge of payroll taxes, including benefits and expenses, and awareness of the tax risks around employee share schemes.
  • Comfortable with tax accounting and preparing tax disclosures.
  • Experience turning tax rules into practical, commercial advice. That includes reviewing legal documents, designing processes and suggesting ways to manage tax risk.
  • Confident with IT: happy to learn how to query databases and accounting systems, and use  automation tools and AI.
  • A self-starter who prioritises their own workload, takes ownership, and knows when to ask for help.
  • A clear communicator who can explain complex concepts to non-experts, and is robust when needed but collaborative.

What makes you stand out

  • Transfer pricing calculations.
  • US federal and state tax reporting.
  • Experience in fintech or payments, or in a fast-growing scale-up.
