What you'll own

Define and drive the strategic roadmap for the Success+ product, translating customer insights into AI‑powered payment success features and partnering with data platform teams to build the underlying data layer.

What they're looking for

Proven experience building and scaling AI/ML‑driven fintech products, strong data platform knowledge, and excellent communication skills for explaining complex concepts to executives and customers.

Why this role matters

The role shapes GoCardless’s core payment‑success offering, directly boosting merchants’ payment completion rates and reinforcing the company’s competitive edge in the global payments market.

About this role

About us

GoCardless is a global bank payment company. Over 100,000 businesses, from start-ups to household names, use GoCardless to collect, manage and send bank payments through Direct Debit, real-time payments and open banking. With US$130bn+ processed annually across 30+ countries, we handle recurring and one-off payments without the chasing, stress, or expensive fees. Our end-to-end payment platform also features AI-powered solutions to improve payment success and reduce fraud, alongside connections to over 350 platforms businesses use everyday.

We are headquartered in the UK, with teams and operations spanning North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The role

Our mission is to make GoCardless the best way to pay and be paid. Our ambition is to dramatically enhance payment performance and safeguard our customers from negative outcomes, such as payment failures. You will build our "payment success" products, powered by AI and machine learning, leveraging GoCardless's vast network data to create self-learning systems that solve complex customer challenges.

Our existing Success+ Product is already one of the key reasons why customers choose GoCardless. This helps customers intelligently recover failed payments with smart retries. Using our proprietary data and cutting edge approaches to Data Science, our merchants end up with more payments successfully completing than with our competitors. This means more money in their bank accounts. You will need to set the strategy for GoCardless in this critical area, and be able to communicate complex concepts in clear ways for a range of audiences including execs, stakeholders, and our customers.

What You'll Do

  • Own the Product Vision: Define and drive the strategic roadmap.
  • Champion our Customers: Translate deep insights into customer needs and cutting-edge, data-driven solutions.
  • Drive the Data Flywheel: Partner with our Data Platform teams to build the foundational data layer that powers continuous, network-wide performance improvements.
  • Empower the Frontline: Enable our sales and support teams to clearly articulate and position the competitive strength of our Success+ product.

What Excites You

  • Cutting-edge advancements in Data, AI, and Machine Learning within the payments industry.
  • Unlocking new layers of payment performance and maximizing success rates for our merchants.
  • A high-impact role that blends commercial strategy, deep customer engagement, and complex technical problem-solving.
  • Building a unified, shared data infrastructure that fuels performance across our entire network.

What Excites us

  • Proven experience in building and scaling AI/Machine Learning-powered features within fintech or payments.
  • A track record of translating complex customer pain points into successful, high-impact products.
  • The ability to define a forward-looking product strategy, informed by the latest technological trends.
  • A strong understanding of data platforms, with the ability to shape technical direction.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts simply and engagingly to any audience.
  • A strong data-driven mindset, with the ability to make decisions and build narratives backed by data.
  • Bonus points: Experience building and scaling intelligent solutions within a fintech environment.
