Using advanced technology, all solutions are designed with SMEs in mind. With quick onboarding, low fees and innovative features, we thrive on making data driven decisions to serve our mission: to help SMEs save time and money so they can get back to doing what they love.

Tide Facts

  • Tide is available for UK, Indian, German and French SMEs
  • Over 2 million members globally and rapidly growing
  • Over $300 million raised in funding
  • 3,000 Tideans globally
  • Recognised with Great Place to Work certification three years in a row, and among India’s Top 50 Best Workplaces in Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance in 2026
  • We have offices in Central London, with a member support and technology centre in Sofia, Bulgaria, technology centres in Serbia, Romania, Lithuania and Hyderabad and offices in Gurugram, New Delhi, Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg

About The Team

Tide Credit Services (TCS) puts credit in SMEs’ hands when they need it. We build Tide’s on demand lending products—including Credit Flex, Instant Loan, and Credit Score Insights—so members get fast, flexible funding inside the account they already run their business from.

We are scaling our flagship products globally across the UK, Europe, and India. This is high-velocity, high-impact work: you’ll architect and drive a fully automated, lightning-fast lending engine designed to deliver capital on demand, securely and seamlessly. Partnering with a brilliant and growing cross-functional team of 28 across engineering, product, design, data, and operations, you'll build a robust, scalable platform powering the future of SME credit.

The opportunity

As Head of Engineering for Tide Credit Services (TCS, transactional credit), you’ll own the technology behind how Tide lends to SMEs. That covers Credit Flex, Instant Loan and the platform underneath them.
It’s a senior, hands-on leadership role with real say over architecture, engineering strategy and delivery. You’ll lead Engineering Managers and senior engineers, and set the bar for technical excellence.

As Head Of Engineering You Will

  • Set the architectural direction for Tide’s credit platform: scalable, resilient, compliant, and built to launch in new markets quickly.
  • Lead the design and delivery of lending products that are fast, reliable and safe for members to use.
  • Work with Product, Risk, Compliance and the business to turn the credit roadmap into shipped outcomes.
  • Own integrations with third-party providers, including credit data, payments and funding partners, and make them seamless.
  • Stay close to the code. Get involved in architecture, design and the hard engineering calls.
  • Champion engineering fundamentals (system design, security, quality) and AI-native ways of working.
  • Mentor engineers and Engineering Managers, building a culture of ownership and learning.
  • Shape Tide’s wider technical strategy as we scale Tide Credit Services globally.

What We Are Looking For

We’re looking for a highly technical, strategic engineering leader. Background in the credit domain (lending, credit decisioning, loan servicing or repayments) is preferable, and wider fintech experience is also valued. Neither is a prerequisite if you bring strong engineering leadership, breadth of technical knowledge and the ability to get up to speed fast.

  • 10+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 3 years in senior engineering leadership roles.
  • Deep experience designing and running microservices, event-driven and distributed systems that are scalable, resilient, fault-tolerant and loosely coupled.
  • Track record of embedding AI tooling and LLMs into how engineering teams build, review and ship, with measurable gains in velocity and quality.
  • Experience building in regulated environments, where compliance is a design constraint rather than an afterthought.
  • Experience launching and scaling products across multiple jurisdictions, with differing regulation, partners and customer needs.
  • Breadth of technical knowledge with depth in at least one stack. Experience with ours isn’t essential, but the ability to quickly understand and lead in a new environment is critical.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex systems and third-party integrations.
  • Ability to translate business goals into a clear technical roadmap and explain the rationale behind technical decisions.
  • Strong mentoring skills and the ability to build and inspire high-performing engineering teams.

Tech stack

  • Java 17, Spring Boot and JOOQ to build the RESTful APIs of our microservices
  • Event-driven architecture with messages over SNS+SQS and Kafka to make them reliable
  • Primary datastores are MySQL and PostgreSQL via RDS or Aurora (we are heavy AWS users)
  • Docker, Terraform, EKS/Kubernetes used by the Cloud team to run the platform
  • DataDog, ElasticSearch/Fluentd/Kibana and Rollbar to keep it running
  • GitHub with GitHub actions for Sonarcloud, Snyk and solid JUnit/Pact testing to power the CI/CD pipelines (new joiners are encouraged to have something deployed to production in their first 2 weeks)

What You'll Get In Return

  • The gross monthly salary for this position ranges from 91,600€ to 114,500€, depending on your skills, and experience.
  • Remote first
  • 25 days of paid annual leave
  • 3 paid days off for volunteering or L&D activities
  • Private Health Insurance
  • Mental Health Support Platform
  • FitPass
  • Family and friendly leave (according to statutory)
  • Personal L&D budget
  • Share Options
